Yeeesss! Grew up in the Bronx and Brooklyn; D Train is hands down my favorite; my family knows that “Keep On” is on my funeral list. Got to see him perform 2 years ago at the Legends Of Vinyl Hall of fame induction ceremony in Queens; needless to say, he was the highlight of the night for me. The skating, the block parties, people together; BEST times of my life ❤
Now that you got us on the dance floor, keep it going with Colonel Abrams’ “trapped”. Lets party! By the way D Train is a single artist from NYC, not a group.
Check out another D-Train hit "Keep On"! A motivational jam that inspires people to hold onto their dreams, and never being deterred from acheiving them! 💯
Although the group was called D-Train, that was actually the nickname of the singer, James "D-Train" Williams, which he got as a football player in HS in Brooklyn, NY. My favorite songs from D-Train are, "Somethings On Your Mind" and a nice slow jam called "Your The Reason" you should definitely check those songs out. Another artist who was huge at that time was a guy named Colonel Abrams. You should definitely react to his songs, "Trapped" and "I'm Not Gonna Let"
Hubert Eaves III is the keyboard wizard that helped give D Train their fantastic sound. Check out Music or Keep on or Keep Giving Me Love (my fav) for some more of this awesome duo
Lol my pops LOVED D train this album was on repeat during my childhood and somethings on your mind was one of my favorites as I started to like D train as an adult now timeless classics and memories of my pops dancing to you're the one for me during Christmas parties in the Bronx back in the days so many memories
D-Train has a few really awesome tunes. Keep On, Music, etc. All killer! The production and synth tones are just killer. I think this was 1980 or 1981!
You hit the nail on the head, Jay. 80s club banger!!!❤🔥I saw D-Train, Steve Arrington & Nona Hendryx one night at Bond's (NYC Club) in 1983. Steve Arrington songs: Watching You, Weak at the Knees. D-Train songs: Something's On Your Mind, Keep On. Nona Hendryx songs: Why Should I Cry, Transformation
Lemme tell you... I didn't realize that song was motivational until I played it while trying to get through the first semester of grad school. It really kept me going and I recommend it to people as an uplifting song.
This song always got me out on the dance floor. One of my favorites!! You should check out the song "Keep On " Very uplifting song with a great beat! James D Train Williams has an amazing voice!
Holly smokes, haven't heard this one in ages! I remember D Train now, for sure! Other commenters are soo right. They had a number of really cool funky hits! Songs that just make you want to move.
D Train. Simply one of the best of this Era . “Keep On” 12inch will have you out of of Breath and your feet and body will need a Rest. Probably their best
In the UK we used to call this music 'Boogie'. Mix of funk, disco and soul. It had a small window in the early 80s. Died out by 85, and then the music morphed in to Street Soul followed by early New Jack Swing by the very late 80s, and soulful House/US Garage.
Back in the day, South London UK where nights out were just looking good, dancing the night away meet that girl...not a gun or knife in sight....Care free days!!!!

Love D-Train!! I wish you watched the time this was part of the Soul Train line dance!! The dancers were hyped! By the way, I think that was the album version, the radio edit cut out the acapella start.
Some more from around this time (give or take a year or so) to listen to: Mass production - firecracker (family story goes, a wedding DJ who had to go home because he forgot to bring it and kept getting requests to play it); Michael Henderson (bassist) - wide receiver; The fatback band - backstrokin’; The S.O.S. Band - Just Be Good To Me, Take Your TIme (Do It Right); Midnight Star - Freak-A-Zoid; Skyy - Call Me; The Gap Band - Beep a Freak; Oops Upside Your Head, Humpin

Oh my gosh we got some Paul Hardcastle keyboards in the house...you guys need to check out some Paul Hardcastle tunes. He collabs with a lot of r &b and jazz artists like these and brings and electronic/dance vibe to their songs.
@@gabrielmcdonnell8699 i just re- watched the 1982 video and it's a mashup of 2 live performances one with Paul and one with their own keyboardist. I had no idea until now...but I say they should have done the extended version with Paul.

James Williams, the lead singer, was a former NFL player who pursued music after his playing days ended. The other half of D-Train is Hubert Eaves, the primary musician.
James D-Train Williams had a string of hits in the 80's, "Keep On", "Walk On By", "Somethings On Your Mind". One artist from the 80's you absolutely have to do is Oran "Juice Jones and his huge huge hit "The Rain" that song is a must and the video is out of control
Another dance classic from the late 70s that will get you out on the dance floor, is Eddie Grant’s “Walking On Sunshine”. That was another banger in the dance clubs!

This a priceless old school Jam.... One of the best synth grooves ever made. So glad you finally got to this absolute GEM.
🇬🇧 Saw an earlier comment that recommended Colonel Abrams "Trapped" (80s), great suggestion, fabulous song and real Disco hit. You'd both love it. 🪩💃🕺🎶
I remember the first time I heard this song at a club in Beverly Hills in the late 80's. Best dance song ever and the club was absolutely rockin it. Took me years to track the song down again because really got no air play at all.
If you like "D Train", you'll LOVED the group "Change!" They featured a very young Luther Vandross. They had multiple hits like: "Change of Heart," "You are my Melody," "A Lovers Holiday", "The Best in You", "The Glow of Love" & "Hold Tight." They were 80's soulful, synth, funk, club masterpieces!
This was the jam at the clubs back then. My club-hoppin' days. The late '70s/early '80s was the golden era of club tunes.

Yes that’s a good one!
FINALLY! Prince loved this song and performed it in concert.
I love it even more now! I love Prince but never knew that and how could you blame him this song jams!
Nothing but Block party, Skating rink and park jams vibes. Summers in the city of NJ/NY, early 80s were nothing short of electric!

80's Dance floor cut. He had another joint called "Keep On"
This track will NEVER get old. The remix version with Paul Hardcastle in 1985 is amazing.
D had another cool hit called Something’s On Your Mind, although instrumentally it’s very ‘80’s.

This was one of those songs that went on to spark the house music of the late 80's and early 90's, but was still deep rooted in funk. Great track!

Another 80s banger “ Mama Used to say “ by Junior.
