Will miss you Jacqui, I discovered you when I was 16, This production changed my life. I will always think of you fondly.
Ever my Katisha! Brava Jacqui Dark! What a fabulous and powerful interpretation! xxx
So powerful and delicate. I got teary with this song. I love it.
Finally, an opera aria that suits my voice! Her singing is amazing and her custom is really cool as well!
Brilliant performance.
I love rewatching you, my dear Jacqui. #mesmerising
Good Katisha, set, lighting and orchestra - this is the way to do it. Thumbs up!
Fab rendition. Performing this for the first time in a few weeks. Hope I do it as well as this is done. I'm a former Yum Yum but too old for that now:-)
That's me too!
Beautiful
Lovely and heart-breaking. One of G&S's most beautiful arias, done with a powerful but tender touch by Lady Dark. I believe her Katisha is my favorite, now.
Brava! Made me cry! ;(
Oh, beautiful and sensitive rendering! Made me cry! Brava!
Up until now Katisha is a baddie - but seeing things from her point of view in this aria really makes you feel sorry for her. Then next, of course, she gets Koko so is happy in the end. Clever old Gilbert and Sullivan.
She is the heart of the show
this is the heart of her character
RIP BEAUTIFUL SOUL :(
Beautiful
well sung, well acted, brings the whole musical to earth
Katisha is the soul of the Mikado
Everyone else is so Seinfeldian
this is great! I also really like the costume. kind of a mix between the red queen from alice and Kabuki theatre :D
I like the voice. And I like the pathos, the bit of humanity so Katisha is not just a caricature.
Vale Jacquie xx
I find it kind of cool how, even though Katisha is seen as a comedic villain for most of this play, we're invited in a few moments like this to see things from her point of view and see her as more human than we otherwise might.
Fab u lous
Is there a recording of the whole performance?
lastbreathsigh The whole production was released on DVD - it’s such a wonderful design!
Setting the standard from which all productions of this number should be judged.
Quality singing. Adds some class to Gilbert and Sullivan. Hope she sings other opera.
is someone here from the zodiac true crime?
she's mezzo why is she singing this
bad casting
If you can't play with the Mikado go home.
You do it straight or just play with it. What ever happens, you can't blame the script.
The art is to balance acting choreography and singing
Her performance is spot on
Fach isn’t the law of repertoire or casting.
Her role’s part is actually a contralto but we all know how rare those are to come by. So the mezzo would still have depth and richness the role requires.
Also- Cecilia Bartolli and Joyce DiDonato are both mezzos but often sing soprano roles as well. It’s about what ALL the voice can do- not just the category we designed to classify the voice.

thanks for the very informative input 😁
She is perfectly cast. Fach is a construct.
