I grew up in an environment where being reserved/ religious and conentrating on education was the epitome of human existence. With zero access to information and only condemnation for the "outside world" I forged into adulthood, needless to say this approach landed me in various regretable situations. This left me with so many questions about what I knew life to be, I needed answers. Today I thank God for the internet and thank him even more for people like you lynn, you are doing an amazing Job at putting out information, educating and shaping society.I have been following your shows religiously and this topic covered a part of my journey to self discovery and autonomy. Much love ❤

Honestly, if you can abstain it’s the best thing for your health. I’m 31, and still waiting to have sex when I’m married. It’s tough journey to wait. But it’s a very beautiful thing. I want to encourage all young girls to wait and understand your body. When I was 21, my doctor wanted me to start taking birth control pills because I had very inconsistent periods. He was worried that I had PCOS. My mom advised me against it. And this was a doctor overseas (not Kenyan). I also had very painful periods. It’s taken years for me to figure out my body and know how it works. My periods are now consistent and before I would even go 3 months without it. I’ve never taken any birth control meds. I’ve had ultra sounds and there nothing wrong with me. So at 21, I was super young and my body was just changing at its own pace. I normally take pain meds a few days before and also during my periods to relieve the period pain. I specifically take - Naproxen. And I take 1 per day for about 3 days. I’m not sure if it’s available in Kenya. I also exercise and watch what I eat. And use a heating pad on my worst day. But I would strongly advice young girls to just abstain. Having sex at a young age has so many consequences, just wait and enjoy sex in your marriage. Also, these contraceptives medications. I don’t care if it’s a highly recommended doctor, they come with a lot of side effects. If you can, just wait.

I have loved this informative conversation with Dr. K. Still on DEPO, I was in a kanjo facility on 9th Dec and I inquired on depo after listening to W's story. The family planning professional, he's abit aged, he told me depo is not advised to be used on women who have never conceived, that it has adverse effects. Also that its mostly used on women who have had enough children or do not want children. Lynn please help me ask Doc to shade more light on that

I am 55 years, I have 2 grown kids. I have spaced my kids using safe days and it worked for me. If you have a cooperative husband, safe days are so easy. For me I had regular periods. So I never used pills. I no longer get periods cos am now on menopause but even the meno haijawahi nisumbua. I pray to teach my last born daughter this things when she gets married. So ladies, don't stress, it's doable. But kama bwanako sio cooperative, just see your gyna and know what to use. Sisi wasichana wenye tumeachana na periods let's meet behind the tent and enjoy our good days.

Teach her now, don't wait until she's married. Sometimes as parents we like to burry our heads and pretend our teenagers aren't having sex while they are. The earlier the better, especially if she's already in her mid to late teens.

The society needs such type of doctors. Dr. Claire looks young but in her she has alot.
The fact will remain that we young people will still get pregnant either the parents like it or not. so the best way is to empower us with the right information and the rest is for us to make a choice.

    I am 34 now.
I wish we had these information in school. During my high school I suffered a lot during my periods. I was bleeding a lot and too much cramps.like every months I would stay in sickbay for two days and given buscopan by school nurse which was not helping me.
One morning I woke up in a river of blood. My school nurse was ordered to send me to a clinic just to check if I had abortion😢😢😢😢when we went for hospital the doc said everything was normal and it was just a normal period. These really affected me so much in school that almost I felt like giving up. My pocket money mostly was used to buy extra pads because I was almost using 3 packs in a cycle.
After my high school I had to open up to my dad and we found out I was having suffering from endometriosis .
If we had these information during that time about iud I think it could have helped me alot.
It was stressful and emotional journey because Theater became my home😢😢😢
I am grateful to God today a have a son.
    # I am endometriosis warrior

Thank you for the good episode Lynn.
If I'm asked about teenagers taking contraceptives I wouldn't advocate for it.........Let them be taught how to abstain until marriage, it's possible.
Our young girls should be taught how to Carry themselves with dignity and honour as their bodies being the temple of the Holy Spirit 1Corinthians 6:14-18, the Bible says that fornicators won't enter heaven, why subject your girl to sleep all over with men then go to hell, or else get HIV AIDS, STDs, some do abortions and loss their uterus and others die in the process.
Teach your girl about the fear of the LORD as well as keeping her sexual purity.

I like that today we’ve had a discussion from a medical perspective of using contraceptives from teenage years. Now have psychologists looked into the actual effects over time let’s say by them time these teenagers hit their 30s is there a mental impact. If our bodies already produce these hormones, what’s the impact of taking artificial versions over time especially on the brain and how it works.

So informative. I still feel like the hormones still mess up the ovulation hence periods! We had this discussion with my OBGYN, and another endocrinologist, the information we get is what all doctors are taught in med school and they share/relay that information to patients. Cz look at it like this, you are on contraceptives such that it works against the ovary to function the way it is supposed to for such a long time. That will affect fertility overall, cz ovaries were meant to ovulate. I mean the ovary will be “taught” not to ovulate cz it’s been starved. There is the other side, of side effects of contraceptives, that is not deeply understood or researched because pharmaceutical companies have to monetize their meds. I would never recommend contraceptives to anyone, unless it’s a life saving condition.

Right. Doctors are modern day MURDERERS!!! Sent and educated by big pharma !!!! Spreading the wrong information. Let’s talk about the effects of wearing high heels on your back. Could we hear from an ORTHOPEDIC 😂😂😂

She mentioned the side effects in her response. People react differently to family planning methods and that's why a consultation is needed before going on any method. Regular check up is also key for the doctor to get you off the FP method early enough.
