@@ceedasun6148 No. It's an oboe. That is not what a clarinet sounds like. You can easily look it up if you disagree.

The oboe solo at the end of the song and especially the last note of it are so beautiful, it’s repeated so it stays with you long after the song is over.

Best looking band in the world with this line-up: McLennan, Forster, Brown, Morrison and Vickers! Grant looks like James Dean in this, Robert is at his most Robertish, and I'll still argue that this is GW's best GBs song till I'm blue in the face :)

I'm not entirely sure I agree just because 'Dusty In Here' is about the most heartbreaking song I know but this one is top 5 with no question. Wow how many instruments does Amanda Palmer play ? She's like Brian Jones only better looking and (I assume) less impossible.

Justly famous song... but what a missed opportunity with this video.
If you've seen the moonlit stepped clouds over Trinity inlet, if you've walked home alone, drunk, down Shield St, you will know this is as a homage to Far North Queensland, and the nostalgia of a Queensland boy with a guitar who left the cane fields, saw the world, and never found a true home.

    • @scottreid4311
      @scottreid4311 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Agree. While I know nothing of Queensland, the song is so rich in emotion (sad/brittle/majestic) that you can't help but wish they went for more of that vibe in the video.

Impossible to say what is their best song, but this is in the top 5 or 6. A fallible band, some bad bits, but overall beautiful - from the first album to Grant and Robert's solo stuff.
Ps. Lindy is a much better drummer than she's give credit for; does her stuff like Ringo

"Hey guys I've got this great new song. I mean, it's not just kinda great, it's *all-time* great."
--"Let's hear it...wow, that really is great! Let's put that on the new album."
--But there's just one thing...my girlfriend wants to be on it. She wants to sing backup.
    --Well, can she sing?
--Sure...I mean, with enough phasing and, you know...sure.
    --OK then.
--But, guys...there's just one other thing.
    --What is it, Grant?
--She wants to do an oboe solo, too.
    ---WHAT??
--Yeah, you know, oboe. The woodwind. Like, where there would ordinarily be a nice guitar part one of us could play, maybe an arpeggio...But an oboe solo instead.
    --Oh geez, Grant. Seriously.
