    SARS is worried about the ex Pats leaving SA but SARS is not worried about the people getting tenders from government for millions of Rands and not paying taxes on that money received. We have hard working people in SA that pays Taxes, but dont get proper Service Delivery from our government sectors......SARS must first get their home in order in SA before target people abroad......

      That's a good question, have no idea why they like to demand money but nothing ever changes and yet the prices keep going up, future isn't looking good for South Africa.

      Sars should not be worried about expats leaving RSA,more job creation and employment opportunities for locals,left a few months back but am still called to help via video calls or phone's calls,expat means legit foreign national workers right

      Even then there should be a limit to the percentage a government takes from it's people, like 15% max. It's not easy to earn R1M+ a year, but the government will take 40% of that without even blinking. People should've never allowed that.

    Is it possible for a South African to completely renounce and get rid of any South African citizenship after imigrating and becoming a citizen of a different country ? One would like to completely rid of sheer audacity. The cheeck to not let go when you want a divorce. Never asking for marriage in the first place, but born into it.

    • @defiantiger
      @defiantiger ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You can have SARS mark you as a non-tax resident, but if you want to renounce your citizenship, "simply" get another citizenship. South Africa doesn't need you to renounce officially as any grant of another citizenship will invalidate your South African one unless you apply to Home Affairs for dual citizenship.

As I type this I have just sold my house and belongings and moving back home. South Africans don't know how good that they have it and I'm gonna tell them when I get back.

    Total rubbish. Counties have tax agreements which very specifically states that only the country where you are domiciled can tax you. The standard tax agreements between countries are pretty much the same, based on a standard UN format. So, I live in NZ, and if SARS want to tax me, the agreement states that the issue must be resolved between the governments, i.e. Minters of Finance or the directors of the the counties' tax collection agencies. This scaremongery only applies to SA citizens that work for periods outside SA but is "domicile" in SA. And, last I looked, if those people spend more than 183 days outside SA, no income has to be declared to SARS. But, if the country you're working in, and has a tax agreement with SA, you pay tax to that country, not SA. Easy.

    Nobody likes the Tax Man. I know of a British Expat who worked in Canada on a work permit and who, after a couple of years, returned to the UK. Whatever happened he did not finalize his Tax with Canada Revenue before leaving. He came to Canada again after 6 or 7 years on a skiing holiday with his family and was arrested at Customs and held until he settled the amount owing. So it is not just S. Africa. All the tax offices speak to one another. Tax now is supranational. Whatever you think you cannot ignore these people. They will come and get you.
