  • In this video, I go over the basics of router templates, the router bits and a few setups to use them.
    Skil Plunge Router:
    www.lowes.com/pd/SKIL-14-Amp-...
    Crafted Elements Website for Templates:
    craftedelements.com/collectio...
    Something I skipped over in the video, is that the Cross and Awareness Ribbon templates are inlays. There is a router bit you can purchase to carve out the shape in your project, and use another size template to create a perfect fit replica. Very cool, I just ordered the bit to give it a try!

    I just finished building the handrail on my deck th-cam.com/users/postUgkxfQ5_mgwq6PcudJvAH25t-I4D-3cTPz4z and used this great little router to clean up the top rail before the final sanding and stain. It was light weight but packed lots of power. Either size battery didn't seem to make it top heavy and I'm a 64 yr old women so I really appreciated how easy it was to use...................... CORDLESS only way to go !!

    seriously, I'm a mom and love country music. You have a very unique voice; let your woodworking skills inspire your songs. Patten your songs, DON'T lose your great personality and DON'T get caught up in all the crap that go's with the music industry. Don't forget your roots. start out at a local nondenominational church. You'll not only learn how to stretch your vocal cords, you will surround your self with positive influences. "Sore, like on wings of an eagle". not sure what book or verse but HE will be your ROCK and FOUNDATION. HE will guide you and help you if you ask HIM son. from one mom to very talented young man. good luck!!

    quick question. usual templates ive bought are 1/4" thick. i noticed i have a much harder time with them compared to ones ive made that are 3/4" or two 3/4" put together so i can control the depth to start shallow and have plenty of space to lower it as i need. So, is it best to always try to make them thicker? how do you also get around using just a 1/4" and not run into issues where your first cut is too deep and you cant start shallow because the bearing wont ride on the template? i had to get multiple bits and change out which is annoying

    • @WhosTheVoss
      @WhosTheVoss  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Heyo! All the flush cut bits I use have the bearing above the cutter, closest to the router. I have a few different lengths of cutters: 1/2", 3/4, 1" and a 1-1/2". Honestly I use the smallest one the most and make passes until i reach the depth I desire. You are 100% correct; the longer bits are pretty much useless when using a router template. Check out these little short guys, you dont even need to switch out router bits to keep the bearing on the template, the bearing can ride against the cutout as you progress deeper into your workpiece.
      These are the flush cut bits I use in the video:

    I need to route ramakan holes into an end grain board. 1 5/8 diameter and 3/8 deep. How would I do this?

    • @WhosTheVoss
      @WhosTheVoss  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I googled "ramakan holes" and didnt find anything, nor have I heard of this. Sorry buddy, end grain you will want a router bit that is spiraled like a drill bit, rather than the two blade yellow ones I used in the video. The spiral-ones have less tearout and burning :)if its just a hole, I would use a forstner bit so it has clean sides and a flat bottom

    • @goatisnice
      @goatisnice 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@WhosTheVoss I tried the forstener bit but it left dimples in the bottom that were impossible to sand out and it tore out the hole in spots I'll try the router with a template

    Good video. Is it just me or does the unclamped jigsaw usage with your hand out in front of the blade at 5:15 look like a possible shortcut to the ER.

    • @WhosTheVoss
      @WhosTheVoss  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great observation! It is un-wise to put your digits in front of the cutting path. In other videos you will see me steering my jigsaw by using my left hand on the guide out in front to control the vibration for a cleaner cut. In this video, I was going ham because I was clearing some material. The wood is soft cedar, and the blade would hit my tablesaw before reaching my cheese-grabbers. If you're uncomfortable, then it's unsafe. Theres a lot I see people do with the tablesaw that I would never attempt. Thanks for making it to 5:15!! :D
