  • Another in my growing collection of matchstick models, this time it's a kit I built a few years ago.
    I felt I might be able to do a better job this time.

    Instructions are very poor indeed. Thanks Vic for your input, it helps. The axle instructions say 3 matches square but yours seem to be 2 length ways?

    • @vicparratt7523
      @vicparratt7523  หลายเดือนก่อน

      @trevorrussell7512 Hi Trevor yes I'm afraid the instructions are somewhat lacking, that's one of the reasons for posting my youtube videos, hopefully they are of some assistance to fellow matchstick modellers.
      The axle is 3 square it's just built as a box with the steel shaft acting as the central match. Hope this makes things clearer and don't hesitate to contact me through the comments if you need assistance.
      Incidentally it's not just this kit that has poor instructions every matchstick kit is the same. Best wishes Vic.

    Delighted I found this channel. Got the Matchmaker Tram as a present years ago. Found it recently and decided to give it a go. Can I ask a question? What tool do you use to cut the matches? I'm using a sharp modelling pliers but it keep pinching the ends of the match and not doing a clean cut. Would you consider doing a video going over all the tools you use and how you do curved cuts etc. Thanks.

    • @vicparratt7523
      @vicparratt7523  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for your kind comments.
      I use two main tools to cut the matches
      1. A pair of Xuron sprue cutters
      2. Rptoolz guillotine, expensive but brilliant.
      Curved matches are difficult, I use a small pair of smooth jawed pliers and gently bend the match.
      Another way to form curves with matches is to cut them very short and use lots of them to make the curve, it's the method I am using at the moment on my Riverboat kit.
      I'll look into the possibility of making a video of tools used.

    I am in the process of building the same matchstick model, and I must say the instructions are not very specific. So thank you Vic for your images which will help towards my build. If you are interested I can forward you a number of pictures showing my efforts. Cheers Jimmy

      Hi Jimmy I'm pleased that you're finding the video of some help with your build of this model. Yes I'm afraid instructions are a big let down in matchstick model kits, that and templates that are sometimes the wrong size and shape. The one most important thing to remember with these kits is keep the box art it's often your only reference as to where to place parts. Having said all this they are incredible value for money, 3 months or even more of entertainment for about £15 to £20 ain't bad value.I would be very pleased to see your pictures of your progress just email them to me at vrparratt@gmail.com
      Good luck with the rest of your build. Best wishes Vic.

    Nice.. What's a good source for inexpensive bulk matchsticks? All I've been finding is packages of a few 100 sticks, that seem kinda pricey to me

    • @vicparratt7523
      @vicparratt7523  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you. The matches for the caravan came in the kit. Yes they are quite expensive to buy on Amazon and you have to be carefull as some of them aren't matches but micro beams, which are longer and thinner than proper matches. Best wishes Vic.

    Great job, one question do I bolt the steering gear to floor before fitting roof as I was thinking I would be unable to access bolt inside body.
    Thanks Colin

    • @vicparratt7523
      @vicparratt7523  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes make sure you drill the appropriate hole in the floor and insert the bolt and make sure you secure it because once the roof is on you won't be able to access the bolt. If you insert the bolt from above you can put the steering on at your leisure as the thread will be accessible. Best wishes Vic.

    I've just bought this kit. It's my first matchstick kit, but I'm a seasoned plastic modeller and my woodworking skills are also growing so I'm hoping I'll do okay. I like your scratch built shutters, I'd already decided to do the same as the card shutters are just nasty. Thank you for posting this very informative video, prewarning of issues is always better than ruuning blindly into them. And congratulations on your beautiful work! 😊
