Great question! It is very important that you do not use any soap in the earlier washes, especially if your garment (either a keikogi or hakama) is dyed using natural 'ai' dye. Once your garment starts to age, it doesn't hurt to use a very, very small amount of soap.
I think we can use shampoo or any kind of organic soap. They are not as strong as normal soap, and won't destroy the dye in the garment. But I myself only use shampoo like once a month. After each keiko, I soak my gi and hang it. And I don't hang my gi out in the sunlight (it is quite harsh in Vietnam in summer). I tend to hang it in the shade, with ventilation.
Another great question - you can wash white gear in the same way...and yes, you can use soap without a worry with white hakama and keikogi! (Please do not use bleach, though!)

Thank you very much!
Do you only hang it with that and get absolutely no wrinkles on the gi? Because I admit you can't iron it even with a low heat/pressure setting ?
Drying the keikogi thoroughly with the hanger and then folding it neatly should remove wrinkles without the need for an iron :)
do you use any kind of soap?

Can we use the keikogi hanger to dry ladies Yukata as well?
Absolutely - the Keikogi Hanger are perfect for Yukata, too :)
How do you wash a white keikogi? Can I use soap since its white?
