I was trying to guess along with you -- yes! 🤣🤣🤣 Great idea. Before "Friends", my own group of college friends used to ponder our own personality traits by the Hundred-Acre-Wood crowd. During Friends, we used that lens. A few of us (those who have not had inappropriately young children around) have added a new layer for Big Bang Theory.... (Btw, Piglet+Tigger; Monica+Phoebe; Sheldon+Penny. Can't imagine why I feel a little crazy some days! 🤪)
Thought of Big Bang Theory when you mentioned a show of introverts -- I think that might be the closest we've come, but it's a hit! 🤓

Tracy Tucker [Cooksey] - yes, I’d love to see a breakdown of the Winnie the Pooh characters because I read something that said that each one of the characters represented at a certain type of mental illness. Of course I felt a little sad that I resonated with Eeyore. I can’t remember that Facebook post, but it was really good at showing Each of the neuroses. I also resonated with Tigger because I’m very ADHD, emphasis on the H.

Tracy Tucker [Cooksey] - well thank you so much. I just reread my comment and realized how odd it is that I felt like a combo of the two extremes. I was always an athlete and very active but living in the adult world with too many misfortunes is what created depression. So I’m guessing my Tigger has really turned into just plain old anxiety as my hyperactive outlet.

I would have assumed that Phoebe were the most neurotic, but when you break it down it makes sense that she isn't. It's just that some of the openness facets make her seem that way, but her high self-esteem and, for example, not suffering from substance addiction despite having been homeless, really do place her low in it.

yes!!!!! i think it's also important to note that ross' behaviour in his relationships (esp w toxicity he cultivated w rachel) is generally quite abusive and controlling in what seemed to be societally permissible and covert ways, especially in his own insecurity and possessiveness of his partners. now my dude miss chanandler bong has a whole other set of issues but he's a character i've always felt very close to. he's also an only child like me, has a lot of negative self-talk, uses humour to mask pain, and we both have extreme fear of being trapped into a loving relationship lmao

Some points I agree and at some points, I feel like you haven't seen much. Rating from higher to lower for character development
    1. Chandler
    2. Monica
    3. Rachel
Below three didn't show any development but I am putting as just according to my knowledge
    4. Joey
    5. Phoebe
    6. Ross
Chandler is the most reliable, productive, consistent, creative (you know he works in Ad agency later in the show). He is sarcastic but he is friendly and outgoing, agreeableness is less cause he has other priorities.
Rachel has great character development as shows progress, she becomes highly reliable, social, productive, independent, gentle, and kind.
Well, Joey, Phoebe, and Ross are the worst. They are not decisive, lacks clarity, narcissists. Joey is a child and Ross is a child acting like a man. That's the only difference. Never take any responsibility in their life. Joey's finance totally depends on chandler's money. Ross is a highly untrusted person and worst when it comes to accepting things.
I can write more but I am stopping here. You should research more Sir

She is hostile and quite aggressive however she turned out very kind and caring to those around her (example: that ep where a guy wants to kill himself and phoebe convinces him to stay alive) overall she turned out pretty stable so I’m wondering if someone who has had a traumatic childhood as much as her could still turn out mentally healthy and stable?

HI Doc... I've been watching many of your vids... I find you to be highly articulate, intelligent, insightful, engaging, kind, thoughtful... and I especially enjoy your wry 'tongue in cheek' humor. Here however, I just find it odd to analyze the fictional characters of a sitcom like Friends ... uh, why? they are fictional characters whose personalities were invented by the writers... I personally don't care if they are narcissistic, bi polar, obsessive compulsive, or whatever. They aren't real people. They are contrived fictional characters. Since you like and use analogies often in your videos. here's one: "Analyzing fictional characters in a novel, play, movie, sitcom, tv drama, is, in my mind anyway, sorta like analyzing a fugue by Bach that he never actually composed". Bach wrote enough compositions, (fugues, concerti, cantatas, etc) that warrant analysis. I am a concert violinist, hence my analogy. Just my opinion on this one. Take what you like (if anything) and leave the rest... Per your opening caveat in most of your vids: "I am not diagnosing anyone here in this opinion, only speculating on what could be happening in a situation like this"... Having offered this criticism, I can see by the many posts by your other many fans, I'm in the minority on this. (But please fans here, be nice and respectful, I'm not attacking Mr. G) I really like what you do!!! Keep these great vids coming!!! Greg, Big Dr G Fan

Monica actually was the highest in conscientiousness, and it only appears contrived by the show due to the limitation of the set design. Monicas' apartment does not bear the resemblance of one lived in by a highly orderly person. It is designed with chaotic patterns and mismatching colours. Typically, highly orderly people do not prefer rooms designed in such a way. Rather, they prefer uniformity in colours and patterns, and symmetrical layouts. However, Monicas' apartment features as a main set for all characters, not just Monica, so the set designers needed to create an apartment which reflected the overall theme of the show, not just Monicas' personality.
For example, in one episode Monica becomes irate about the fact that Rachel moved her ottoman to a slightly different position. The scene is set up to cast Monica as a highly orderly 'clean freak', yet seems unusual since the ottoman is clearly a completely different colour and does not match the armchair which Monica insists it be paired with. Why should someone who is so insistent about ordering these items together not appear bothered by how these pieces of furniture are so clearly mismatched? One could argue that her capacity to categorise such items as matching despite their discordant qualities in fact further emphasises her orderliness, but it still would not make sense that she should have kept this style of apartment for 10 years.

As someone who has watched Friends more times than Id like to admit... Id have to strongly disagree with putting Phoebe at the bottom of the Conscientiosness category, as she is the character with the biggest heart and conscience in the show. She is very passionate about everyone being happy, even complete strangers, like when she was in telemarketing and tracked down a client in person just to convince him not to kill himself.
Am I taking this way too seriously? Yes.

  • @sitnspin1819

I have to disagree on Joey, Ross, and Rachel here.
The One Where Joey Got His Encyclopedia said so much about who he was underneath. He wanted to learn and he was open to learning. He wanted to show his friends all of this new intelligence, only to find he was yet again at the back of the class as the others had already moved onto a newer topic. Joey doesn't seek out knowledge, though. He didn't attend night classes like Phoebe. I wonder if that was because he never saw himself as smart and intellectually capable.
Ross is the one I found to be most rigid in his thought processing. He wasn't very accepting of things that didn't fit with Ross' ideals. Take his ex-wife for example. He even wanted Carol to put the pin back in for his own sake. When Rachel convinced Bonnie to again shave her head, Ross was everything "The hell no!" to dating a bald woman no matter how much he liked her. Ross has a lot of academic smarts about him and a lot of general knowledge, yet where art is concerned? I think his scientific mind over analyses whatever it is he's looking at.
Rachel is extremely creative. She works in the fashion industry. She needs an eye for colour, fabric, style, and cut. She needs to be on top of the trends and fashion is very much inspired by art and society. Art doesn't only mean paintings and sculptures. Art is also performance such as acting and dance. Art is clothing, uniquely styled shoes, and home decor. Art also heavily influences food, so Monica has a good dose of creativity in her, too.
