    Rondo capriccioso is a piece of art and just an artist like Yuzuru Hanyu can put all passion and devotion that this song need. Truly perfection.

    Once again, Yuzuru shows just how talented he really is. One of the many abilities he has, that other skaters lack, is his ability to produce speed without the use of repeated crossovers. Something once believed nearly impossible in figure skating. His transitions into and out of jumps are so unique, so difficult, and so seamless, that we often don’t realize he’s going to jump until he’s already in the air. He has the gracefulness of a danseur. And he is a genius on the ice. If he pops a jump in his program, or takes a fall, he immediately calculates where he can add another jump, or turn a single into a combo, in order to get those points back. He’s the real deal. And I honestly believe that there will never be another like him. As one sportscaster said, “There are good skaters. There are great skaters. And then, there is Yuzuru Hanyu.” His years of competitive skating changed the sport forever. Men’s figure skating is no longer just something people watch while waiting for the female figure skaters. It’s now the main event. And that’s because of Yuzuru. His continuous drive to improve his own skating upped the bar, forcing other male skaters to improve in order to compete with him. He’s missed so much by those of us who enjoyed watching him compete. And while I’m happy for him and wish him much success as a pro skater, I can’t help hoping he’ll come back to competitive skating. And in time to qualify for the next Olympics. While he isn’t particularly impressed by the thought of a 3rd Olympic gold medal, I think he’s the only male skater capable of doing it. And I would love to see him go back to retirement on the heels of a winning streak capped with that 3rd Olympic gold medal. A record not likely to be broken in his lifetime.

    • @moma-b
      @moma-b ปีที่แล้ว +6

      So well said. And you are so right, because the sport itself changed because of him. I also hope he may compete again on the next Olympics, although now, that ISU changed their system so much, his artistry wouldn't be appreciated. ISU breeds quad jumping machines, and I fear male figure skating will follow the trend of the fate of the female's. Figure skaters retiring at the age of 17 because they are unable to keep up with the necessary jumps and/or suffered a career ending injury by trying to do so. 🙁

    • @trudyisaacs840
      @trudyisaacs840 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@moma-b I agree. But I also think that many figure skating fans are growing tired of this trend of turning these competitions into jump competitions. Because it’s basically ruining the artistry of the sport. Skaters tend to focus on landing jumps instead of on creating beautiful, artistic imagery, which is what the sport is supposed to be about. I believe that in the not too distant future, jumps will become a limited element in figure skating. And that a new ice skating category will be introduced for those obsessed with pushing the human body beyond it’s limits for the thrill of the elusive, next big jump. And I am certain that Yuzuru’s unparalleled ability to seamlessly weave together gorgeous programs that utilize all of the elements that are missing in a lot of figure skater’s programs, is going to be the driving force behind that movement. His gala performances where he does a single triple or quad jump, and focuses on the beauty of figure skating, are some of true figure skating fans’ favorite programs. He truly has changed, and enriched, figure skating throughout his career. And fans love him for it.

      @@trudyisaacs840 _" jumps will become a limited element in figure skating"_
      I don't like limitations, I would simply change the scoring system so it's not encouraging skaters to risk their health. Sadly, after learning about how the money travels behind the scenes, I have to admit I'm quite pessimistic regarding the future of the sport. I will watch from a distance. I got dragged into it by Yuzuru and I'm only interested in men's FS since.
      There are some young ones whose future I got interested in recently. E.g. I wanna keep and eye on this guy: th-cam.com/video/qVxIn5bkRZc/w-d-xo.html
      He's clearly influenced by Yuzuru and I wanna see how far he can go in this new system.
      _"His gala performances where he does a single triple or quad jump, [...] are some of true figure skating fans’ favorite programs."_
      Me included. But he loves jumping quads. I'm quite certain that he will pursue the 4A until either he manages to jump it with the highest quality, OR he injures himself and cannot pursue it anymore. 🤐
      It will also be interesting to watch Yuzuru's evolution as a pro. We all hoped that he will have less pressure as a pro, but I think it might have become even worse on him. Having a one man show means, if he gets injured, a lot more money depends on his performance than back then when he risked his health on competitions. 🙁 Just think about the consequences of canceling the Tokyo Dome event because he gets injured during the practice a day before the event. OR, even worse scenario, he gets injured during the performance. 🤐I'm sure they are prepared for such to happen financially, and he seems to be able to handle pressure well, yet, ... nobody who loves him can stop worrying for his wellbeing. 🤐

      @@moma-b every sport has limitations. Figure skating already does have some, because the Russian coaches were loading up the second half of the long program for that 10 percent bonus. But the bottom line is that it’s called “figure skating”. Not jumping. And for a reason. A separate category for jumps is a reasonable alternative to forcing skaters to risk injury by trying to keep up with the ones doing more, and riskier jumps. Snow skiers have downhill races. And they have jumping competitions. Swimmers have separate swimming and diving competitions. There is no reason ice skating can’t do the same. As for the quad axel, yes, Yuzuru still wants to achieve landing it cleanly. But the dream of being the first to land it in competition is over. So the importance of his shows will likely take precedence over landing a 4A. At least for awhile.
      I’m sure you’re right about the pressures of running a one man show. And I suspect that the enormous effort it requires will become burdensome. Just as I suspect he will miss competing at some point. I’m just hoping he at least takes a hiatus from his show long enough to qualify, and compete in the next olympics. Because even he, is going to age, and no amount of training can stave it off.
      Ean Weiler has potential. I don’t think he’ll ever reach the level of Yuzuru, but then, I’m not sure anyone can. Only time will tell.

      @@trudyisaacs840 I agree with you. I wish another gold for Yuzu. If someone can go back and win another, he certainly can. He just needs to stay healthy. Now he has his own way of training, best suited to his needs and his stamina improved a lot, thanks to the preparation for Prologue. I'm amazed that his Romeo and Juliet costume from 2012 still fits him, despite he gained a lot of muscles since. 😁
      Ean Weiler will never be another Yuzuru. No one can be another Yuzuru. But Ean can walk the path Yuzuru paved, respecting the values Yuzu did, the artistry in the sport.
      Happy New Year, btw. 🎊🍾🥂😊 I watched Yuzuru performing Origin and managed to have him jumping from 2022 to 2023 while I was drinking champagne. 😁

    In my language, figure skating literally means "art- ice skating". And this is just what this man is doing. He is an artist, from his body stature and perfectly selected costume to every movement, every line he creates on the ice, every nuance he finds in the music. He is ideal in the task he does, he was created for being on the ice. There is no more perfection to imagine than this. This is a work of art from the first second to the last. I am sorry, no other skater I have currently seen is on this level of perfection and complete mastery, not even close. They skate well, they have difficult jumps, but what they do is not, as you say in my language "art- ice skating".

      he intentionally minimized the number of crossovers, which makes the program even harder than it already is, because it’s hard to gain speed without them. there are only six in the entire program, and one before each jump.

When he realized that his efforts were not rewarded anymore, he "gave up" on competing and now he creates other venues for himself to find his joy. I'm sure he feels the love of his fans who are coming to watch him skating, filling up stadiums to the brim. Yet, it is different. I wish him to find his satisfaction, although secretly I wish him a third Olympic gold on the next games as well. It may be only my dream, though.
