I'm very excited to follow your hydrangea project, Matthew! I am glad that you are trialing plants from many different brands. There seems to be a lot of brand loyalty on many of the gardening channels. I think folks are really missing out on some great plants because of it.
Hi Matthew! Considering all of the wind you got, everything is still looking beautiful. I can see why you get so much joy looking at your hydrangea hedge, it's beautiful! I'm looking forward to the hydrangea trial you will be doing. They're going to be so pretty under your trees. The new hydrangeas that you will be adding to fence will look pretty there. Thank you so much for sharing!
Your Hydrangeas are BEAUTIFUL and love your knowledge of all your plants! Hydrangeas have become my favorite and plan on adding more to my yard. Right now I have 3 Quick Fire that are HUGE and pretty all year round. We planted them for privacy and are now planning on going farther down the yard to get even more privacy!
Mathew I think we need a picture you are lying down in that Hydrangeas field😊. Tell us where is this absolute love come from about Hydrangeas? They look glorious. Your garden looks glorious. Thank you for sharing. So looking forward to the next one.🫂
WOW! All you gardens are beautiful! I have never seen so many Hydrangeas in one place 😍 STUNNING!! I am excited to see your next video. Thank you for sharing your beautiful garden with us.
I live 20 min from Bailey’s nursery!! They started out as small production and now they have many different of acres around Cottage Grove and Hastings and Woodbury!
Bailey's nursery is wonderful. I've toured it a number of time over the years. I live in the north metro on the St. Paul side. I hope you have a great visit.
Matthew, your hydrangea hedge is just spectacular. I can see why you love it so much. You've really done a great job with it. Looking forward to your next project(s).
I love that you're testing the hardiness of that yardline plant. I fell in love with that when i saw it on Janey's video but im in a zone 6 too. I can't wait to see how it does!
I watch a weather channel and the one I watch predicted a much colder winter than normal this year. Although it’s a prediction I am going to try to be prepared for the winter weather. I plan on buying extra mulch for around my banana tree and protecting those things that are borderline for my 6a zone. 🌺💚🙃
Just saw you on Robbie from @VisitOurGarden ‘s TH-cam channel. 🤗 It’s just lovely that you, Robbie and Janie are all friends. What a lovely gardening community you all have. 🤗
I did find that trimming out all the spindly branches on my Little Lime hydrangeas in the spring, and keeping them no more than about 2.5 feet tall to begin with, made for sturdier branches. Smaller blooms, but they stood up to rain, which is worth the price.
Have you ever seen a hydrangea that grows about three feet high and spreads out on the ground? I have had to put it in a pot because all the flowers on it were big and needed that height!! It's so beautiful
Thank you Matthew, it looks like you had fun at Cultivate ! Congratulations on being able to score some of those new shrubs. Good luck and Happy Growing ! 🌺💚🙃
Thanks for sharing the improved arborescens. I will ask my local nursery to order for next year. I have no patience for floppy plants although I do like achillea.
Oh my gosh Matthew I had to comment again… I just watched your 😂 HILARIOUS 😂 Instagram short featuring you and Robbie singing the Taylor Swift song. 😝 You two are so entertaining, it made my day. 😂 Love Meg and the pups. X
I just received 2 of the 2 gallon flower full hydrangeas from home depots website. They look great and full. Can’t wait until I see them in full bloom next year.
Hydrangeas look great in the garden and in floral arrangements. Wonderful plants. Breeders do fabulous work creating new varieties with stronger stems, longer bloom times, and different heights and colors. I’m so happy to now live in South Carolina where I can grow them. Central Texas was not hospitable. Too dry.
I'm so excited about your upcoming Hydrangea test project!!! I'm also hydrangea obsessed. My Let's Dance Sky View planted last fall had to be replaced with Let's Dance Loveable this spring, they seem to be doing better even after getting scorched from the heat wave in June. The leaves are all pretty much new growth! Sadly I've only been able to fit 28 hydrangeas in my 2 1/2 year old - 1/3 acre lot. So I will live vicariously through you Matthew! Oh by the way, I've used your coupon code on Heirloom Roses a few times when they're not running a sale, so thank you for that! I'm also obsessed with roses as well, I think I also have 28 roses from HR. Anne from Northern Illinois 💚👩🏻🌾
Oh I’m excited for those hydrangeas. I replaced my Annabelle’s last fall with Incrediball I have great hopes for them but I will find a place for the new ones. We have been bone dry here in nc. It rained finally two days ago my limelight prime was half napping. It was lopsided anyways so I took the pruners to it and tried to stake the rest up. Rained yesterday and it’s a little floppy. Here in the south I have pretty much decide to lose some flowers so come fall I can get the ombré affect. Don’t have one issue cutting off browning flowers now. I don’t have much luck with the reblooming macrophyla hydrangeas bought four 2 springs ago just fried my last one. Never saw a bloom off them just leaves. Excited to see how they do for you!
Your newly purchased hydrangeas are beautiful. I am very slowly building my garden and I purchase 2 hydrangeas a year when they go on sale at our local garden center. My best memories of my grandmother's garden are of her hydrangeas. Love your new home and landscape. You have a real talent for developing garden beds.
Thanks so much for the hydrangea inspiration. I planted a quickfire years ago that I was gifted for my Birthday. This year I rescued an oakleaf that was on clearance. I've been thinking I've wanted to pop some more in, but have been unsure of which varieties. Anticipating your experiments.
You literally hit the nail on the head about the incrediballs. Mine are in the 4th year, I took the stakes out thinking they would do wonderful this year but nope. They are So floppy, every rain storm. I have to find better staking options next year.
Great video Mathew! I have been endlessly researching for an answer to a Hydrangea issue I have but can’t find a comparable problem on line, but I just saw you carrying the First Edition one and there it was!! At 5:15 you can see black… not brown, edges on some of the leaves! It looks like that black is on older and newer leaves just like mine are doing. A specialist at our reputable garden Center felt it was overwatering as the leaves seem to be a bit swollen? That could be it as we had downpour, after downpour for a couple weeks. I have 5 hydrangeas in my back yard, Firelight and Limelight, the 3 that get less than 4 hours sun are the ones affected, could it be that? I’ve had hydrangeas planted in low sunlight areas before that did fine, just not at this property. They are planted in great soil, amended in spring with ‘Land & Sea’ compost and get lots of water. I can’t see any pest issues. I’m hoping with all your hydrangea experience and the example of one you are carrying you might be able to shed some light on my issue. Good experiment you’ll be doing on the different varieties, that will be very interesting! Thanks Mathew, Brenda🇨🇦ZN4
Your time stamp is incorrect, so I’m not clear on what you’re describing, but the overwatering explanation doesn’t make sense to me either. You can post a correct time stamp and I’ll take a look.
I’m sorry Mathew, I can’t figure out how to do a time stamp!😂 I will get someone to show me but for now the time in the video is at 12:50, you are carrying the Hudrangea that was given to you at Cultivate, it is by First Editions and called Flowerful, it has some black edges and tips on the leaves. Thank you so much!
@@brendahayes3365 as I mentioned, these plants were highly stressed from shipping and a lack of true sunlight and much water for over a week. It’s likely something bacterial or fungal related to being crammed into space for shipping and a lack of airflow. Hydrangeas love water, so overwatering is typically not an issue unless they’re sitting in water. If you are overhead watering or have high humidity, like we’ve had here it could contribute to bacteria or fungal issues.
❤ Are hydrangeas deer resistant in your area? I don’t have a safe space to plant them and watching all your videos I’m getting a hankering to try growing them again.
Hi Samantha, I spray my Little Quick Fires every 2 weeks with Bobbex Critter Ridder. I did this after seeing blooms eaten and so far so good. Apparently they will get used to this and then I’m not sure what I’ll do. Grow For Me Gardening ( Christopher and Eric) have many Hydrangeas and deal with deer. Good luck, deer are relentless if they want to be. 🇨🇦 🦌🇨🇦
after I watched this video the algorithm suggested another which I am sure you will enjoy watching, a the very least for the story of the origin of the endless summer series. He talks a lot about reblooming hydrangeas. Anyway th-cam.com/video/OQL0QHp_S4A/w-d-xo.html
Your gardens are breathtaking. I love your style of planting and appreciate learning from you. Looking so forward to watching all your ideas unfold!!

limelight prime hedge is astonishingly beautiful

I garden in zone 9b Texas Gulf Coast, with a small yard and all the heat and humidity, and full sun, I can't really do Hydrangeas unfortunately...
Everything looks beautiful with the dark mulch love it.
The hydrangeas in front of the fence are gorgeous, Matt. Good work. I follow your channel to see the progress. Thanks for sharing.
You got to get yourself a wind break hedge. ❤
Vườn hoa của bạn trồng rất tươi tốt hoa nở rộ đẹp quá ,tôi rất thích khu vườn của bạn .
I live 20 min from Bailey’s nursery!! They started out as small production and now they have many different of acres around Cottage Grove and Hastings and Woodbury!
It was great to see you, Janey and Robbie hanging out together. Hope you had a great time at Cultivate!
Wow, that Flowerful is impressive! Can't wait to see how your experiment progresses.
The hydrangea trial sounds very interesting, Matthew. Looking forward to the results of that.
Beautiful.
Bailey's nursery is wonderful. I've toured it a number of time over the years. I live in the north metro on the St. Paul side. I hope you have a great visit.
How exciting! Thank you for this. I’m holding off buying and planting my hedge until I see what you learn from this!
Love, love your hydrangea hedge
Matthew, your hydrangea hedge is just spectacular. I can see why you love it so much. You've really done a great job with it. Looking forward to your next project(s).
glad you got some rain.
Looking fantastic 🥰🥰

Beautiful Hydrangea hedge, I have some too in my tiny garden.

Welcome to Minnesota❤❤😊 A field of hydrangeas is dreamy.
Oh I forgot to mention that your hydrangea shrub border looks incredible ! 🌺💚🙃
I can’t wait to see that hydrangea hedge in a year or so❤

WOW!!!! ...this is huge news with the new flowerful variety.....I'm so excited for spring already. I am such a fan of all of your hydrangea videos.
Garden Answer uses that chelated iron product for chlorosis all the time. They use it for their trees as well.
Matthew, I needed something to put along my privacy fence...you're helping me with creative ideas 😊👍🌿
Your fence line looks beautiful! Cannot wait for all the new ones to join the tree! Thanks for taking us along!
Thank you Matthew, it looks like you had fun at Cultivate ! Congratulations on being able to score some of those new shrubs. Good luck and Happy Growing ! 🌺💚🙃
More hydrangeas always exciting, really enjoying watching your amazing garden grow
Hey Matthew!! I saw you on another creator’s video at Cultivate!!
We are trying out the remontant big leaf H Eclipse and the mountain H Pink Dynamo - both with purple or purplish foliage
Wow that hydrangeas hedge is perfect I love the look already
Can’t wait to learn your experience about that gorgeous hydrangea!!
Thanks for sharing the improved arborescens. I will ask my local nursery to order for next year. I have no patience for floppy plants although I do like achillea.

It was fun! I had to to shoot it this morning before it got so hot and humid outside. 😂
Awesome video. Ty

I think Let’s Dance Lovable is certainly going to be a winner for us. But this will be a fun test!
Laura from garden answer said you could treat them everyday until the problem is gone.

A few of my hydrangeas look like that every year. They do respond to iron. Its only the hydrangeas!!!
That hedge of limelight prime looks so amazing It's not even funny.
I’m in zone 5b Nebraska, mine are just budding
Beautiful. What size gallon pot is the flowerful hydrangea in? I was able to find 2 gallon size pots. I purchased 4 of them because of you. ❤
❤❤❤
Try Espoma Iron Tone for slow release as well as the EDDHA
I already did. The iron contained in iron tone doesn’t work well when the pH is higher and which may be the issue.
🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸👍
Why did you choose lime light primes? Were you looking for hedge height? ❤
What are the key elements to focus on when editing a video like this?
