      My spoken Mandarin is very poor & they have a very heavy *Cantonese-Putonghua* tinge when they speak. E.g., nearly all of them round off their "s" sound - no "sh" sound at all (very non-standard).

    • @Lfg117
      @Lfg117 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      They say their "s" or "sh" sound like Fuzhouren or Guangdongren would. Sounds so different from a person from Xian or Beifang. Glaring difference.

      This is sad sight. Chinese who don’t know their roots and are speaking the colonial masters language. Not only that, but have betrayed their motherland and voluntarily become colonized dog. Shame.

    I love this video. It's comforting to know that even Chinese people who had Chinese language school as children struggle with the language. It's a difficult language for a western learner, but it is a fascinating language. Learning Chinese will keep your mind sharp!

    • @WondereLand_Official
      @WondereLand_Official  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's definitely tough to learn a language with basically no alphabet. I've personally met (and have so much respect for) Westerners who speak Chinese better than I do. Puts me to shame. Just gotta keep learning. Thank you so much for watching and commenting! It means a lot. 😊

    This is so relatable when I talk with my Asian American friends! We struggled to find the correct vocabulary in our conversations. Yes, as a fellow Cantonese speaker, I can hear your accent and your effort reminds me of my friend who tries her best to speak Chinese. This is too fun! 😂 Keep up the good work.

    Do you mind me asking, how are you able to speak sentence patterns relatively fluently/effortlessly? Did you practice these patterns in Chinese school? It seems to me you mainly struggled with recalling vocab words in the moment/mixed them up with Canto lol but aside from that, you were pretty natural with stuff like “ A跟B不一样、…的时候、一下 等等 ” Anyway really entertaining👍

    • @WondereLand_Official
      @WondereLand_Official  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Oh man, your comment made my week! Thank you for recognizing my mediocre Chinese skills and for watching the video! If I want to say something in Mandarin, I think of how to say it in Cantonese first and then translate it in my head from Canto to Mando (thus the long pauses/speaking slow/mixing them up/etc.). I grew up speaking Canto and although the vocabulary is different like you noted, sentence structure is similar so that helps. I think watching dramas in Mando helped too. I grew up on 还珠格格.
