A timeline where Marleyans didn't expressed hatred, racism, and paranoia towards Eldians and where Eldians didn't expressed vengeance, genocide, and malice towards Marleyans. There would be two young-women from different backgrounds living on a ranch together, no malice or hatred expressed to one another, just love and desire for one another. Honestly the song just fills me with bitterness more than anything else. Cause you know how their characters are ultimately treated in the story. Ymir gets written off for 5 years and then doesnt even get brought back, she's just off handedly mentioned by the person who killed her. There's no explanation given for why she commits suicide to give the literal Nazis of the story back another super weapon. Her whole character and motivations were tossed away cause Isa decided she can't live because she would spoil plot points the fandom had already figured out. Historia has all of her character development from CotT to Uprising wiped away and is turned into a breeder and plot device who ultimately doesn't even end up being a plot device even. The whole reason for her getting the shock pregnancy was made null so the pregnancy just ends up being a device PURELY for shock value. Look guys, the surviving lesbian got knocked up. And not just by any random guy, some guy Isa made who's whole backstory is that he was a kid from Historia's childhood who literally stoned her with other bullies. Oh yeah, so sad, so tragic. Look at these two used to be great characters who had everything that made them who they are stripped away to be convenient for the shitty plot.

In my opinion there are 3 possible explanations for why she saved Bert and Reiner and went with them to Marley 1. Despite how she tried to portray herself Ymir is an extremely selfless person. She sympathized with and felt sorry for Reiner and Bert because she understood the situation they were in so she chose to save them from the Titans and then decided to go with them because she knew they couldn’t go back empty handed. Also she felt guilty for killing there friend and believed she had a debt to pay. She got a second opportunity at life which allowed her to meet historia and she is returning what she borrowed. 2. Reiner promised to protect historia and even though Ymir knew that Paradis had a good chance to win because Eren was the coordinate, in case Marley did win she was hoping that Reiner would fulfill his promise and save Historia. Arguably she wouldn’t really care whether Marley or Paradis won in a war against each other she only cared that Historia would be safe. 3. If Bert and Reiner survived and didn’t have anything to bring back they would continue to go after Eren and Historia. The narrator(Armin) said that the armored titan didn’t follow them after stating that he didn’t understand Ymir’s motivation in the moment which might imply this to be the case. If they didn’t survive then Marley might have decided to attack Paradis earlier than they would originally since they would feel more urgent to win sooner since they had lost 4 of their Titans. Paradis needed time to prepare and Ymir bought them that time
No one could say it better! Ok Ymir died (though she just went and said oh I'm gonna be killed well I'm still going anyways) a lot of characters did. But dirtying Historia, making her a breeder and just saying yep she's happy because she has a kid and is married (with a random guy that she didn't even met for years) is horrible.
I didn't watch the anime but the song is so touching, the original is amazing. and this version of WLW Is...breathe-taking also for the ones who don't know the characters or anime....wow...amazing job like always
Whats sadder is we experience Ymir's death from Historia's perspective. It was showing how some die far from those they love. Historia couldn't do anything to save her, and we learn she died, we didn't see it happen. It was sudden news, and depressing because we couldn't see it happen. All we got was a letter.

No one could say it better! Ok Ymir died (though she just went and said oh I'm gonna be killed well I'm still going anyways) a lot of characters did. But dirtying Historia, making her a breeder and just saying yep she's happy because she has a kid and is married (with a random guy that she didn't even met for years) is horrible.

Whats sadder is we experience Ymir's death from Historia's perspective. It was showing how some die far from those they love. Historia couldn't do anything to save her, and we learn she died, we didn't see it happen. It was sudden news, and depressing because we couldn't see it happen. All we got was a letter.

I keep coming back to this. I never watched Attack on Titan but the other comments here easily filled me in with more than enough information. It's so tragic, and emotional, and bitter, in the best of ways. I love all of your covers but this one is easily my favourite. You absolutely nailed it. I tear up on that incredible second verse every single time. I know it's weird given I know nothing about the source material but the community here really made my heart ache for the two. I haven't watched Attack on Titans; but even without context, this song hits hard. The emotion in her voice is phenomenal. Truly, you never fail to blow my mind. It takes a lot of talent to sing and Reinaeiry has proven over and over that she has more than enough talent. Seriously, why aren't you in a big musical yet?! Ymir left with Reiner and Bert cause she knew if they returned empty handed the Marleyan government would prolly punish them hard...Given that they lost 2 titans on that mission and couldn't even get their hands on the founding titan....ymir knew that; that's why she followed them to Marley, in a way to save them from the cruelty. Even though Ymir wanted to live with Historia, she couldn't as she knew Historia would be safe inside the walls rather than in the Marley territory.....Ig Ymir was just too kind after all
