  • Nowadays, Bangkok is grappling with a flooding problem, making it one of the most flood-prone cities in the world. The city is situated in a lowland area along the Chao Phraya River and is surrounded by canals and waterways. Additionally, Bangkok is sinking at a rate of about 2-3 centimeters per year due to a combination of factors, including groundwater extraction and land subsidence.
    The flooding in Bangkok has several negative impacts on the city, including economic losses, social disruption, and health risks.

    We have developed a simple model for demonstration purposes, focusing on one road in Bangkok. In this model, we assume the presence of a road, canal, and the Chao Phraya River. Water level sensors are installed along the road, canal, and river. Rainfall is simulated using a water tank with a tap located beside the road. Sonar sensors are used to detect water levels. When the water level reaches low, medium, or high levels, water pumps activate accordingly. If the water level rises to a critical level, an alarm is triggered, and a Line Notification is sent to the responsible personnel.
    The pumps transfer water from the road to the nearest canal and subsequently from the canal to the Chao Phraya River. If any water level sensors malfunction, the control room's webpage will indicate which sensor has failed, allowing for prompt technician intervention.
    This project serves as a demonstration of an automated drainage system implemented on a single road in Bangkok. Scaling this system to cover all main roads in Bangkok would enable effective monitoring and management of the city's drainage system.
