ahhhh, ugrades of same skill books do not damage other slots after they're full, that makes it so much easier. I was going random for months.
Hey, thanks for the informative videos. I got Harald yesterday and I'm wondering what you would do for skill books. Planning to use him initially as main wall general, then move him to sub-city mayor once I find a better wall general. Do you have suggestions on both scenarios?
You can add in ranged skill books such as ranged hp attack and range increase. When in a sub you could just leave it or add subordinate specific skill books of your choosing (they don't do much)

Some generals passives stacks, example: Nero, multiple Nero’s will apply same debuff per each Nero in sub city. Most debuff generals can stack, not all.

Be going through all your videos, very very helpful, I just started playing about 3 weeks ago, what skills should I use on Attila and Cleopatra? Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated
Atilla can be used for stealing other players resources (after you kill their troops with a PvP general) and also will help in gathering slightly. If you have lots of siege then add in troop load books for that as well as gathering speed books of your choice, if you do not have many siege troops feel free to have 1-2 load books for a different type of troop so you can get more out of it. Cleo is not necessarily needing skill books as her best role is joining other peoples alliance rallies against bosses with one mounted troop, using her default skill book to get increased items from the bosses without having to kill the boss yourself. However if she is all you have right now you could add mounted books to use her against some monsters yourself, Mounted HP, Defence and Attack tend to be best against monsters

Thanks for the videos. What skills would be best for Scipio Africanus? Should I use him as a PvE general? If so should I give him mounted or ground troop boosting skill? Or should I not use him for PvE, in that case what skills do you recommend?
He is used for ground based PvP and can even be used against
Warlord bosses, but not the rest. Although he is the best ground general, ranged based generals are used more than ground. He should have ground based skill books, these can be a mix of defence/attack/HP/speed.

I gave to my Martinus mounted hp and defense skill books as last skill book what you suggest ? I was thinking to add archer attack or ground attack to use him a little also in PVP what you think is better ? Thank you
Mounted attack for sure, martinus is one of the best mounted generals for monsters and boss monsters. I have never seen a good player try to use different books on him as generals are best when you put mostly all stats into one troop type, especially if they are a mounted general. I suggest trying to get elektra, gwan, li shimin, trajan etc for PvP seperately

I filled up one of my historic gen with lvl 1 books but I can't fill the 4th slot. Every time I apply the 4th book, it replaces the 2nd or 3rd. Lvl 1 keep replacing lvl 1 book instead of taking 4th slot.
With each book the likelihood of that happening increases that chance, it is luck based and therefore you can only keep trying with it until you have all 4, trust me its better to do this than gamble with higher skill books

Question for you. Do Duty Officers need skill books? For example: Ban Chao in the Archer Tower. Do they provide any benefit while on Duty?
The duty officers like ban chao will offer benefits from their default skill book by being in the corresponding duty, for ban chao this is archer tower.. although adding any additional books will not help

in general match up skills with the default skill book of a historical general, such as elektra/li shimin/gawanggato (etc) getting ranged attack, HP and Range Bonus. Barbarossa/martinis/Washington/li jing/takeda (etc) Mounted attack, HP and March Size or mounted defence
I currently have 2 Neros and am surprised by the books you have for him in this video. Is this due to it being a practice account you use for the sake of training? Or would you recommend these for him? I haven't equipped him with anything just yet, but I was leaning more towards a subordinate city strength (eg. rebirth, gold, troop training, etc). Thanks for all of your great videos. I hope to be king of my server soon, and when I do I'll be sure to give you some serious daps.
the nero in the video is when i had a non spender account and didn't yet use him in a subordinate city. He is better off in a sub city with your choice of sub city books, if any. Good luck with becoming king!

@@EvonyGuides can i use normal red skills ( hp attack range bonus) to sub general..... i have nero in sub city equipped with range bonus and mounted hp/attack ??? Is it helpful to my troops or i made mistakes
It will only boost your Subordinate city troops, which is not very helpful unfortunately. It would be better to use these books on attacking, defending and boss generals and save Subordinate-specific skills for those generals
First question would be: What are the best books for PvE generals (i.e. Washington) for killing bosses? Since he has mounted troop attack, would the choices be mounted troop HP and mounted defense? Is there any use for Luck skillbooks for better chances of double drops from monsters as the 3rd skillbook? Last question, are troop speed skillbooks good for PvP?
I currently use a Washington general for bosses until I can obtain a newer one, as Washington has a default skill book for mounted attack ONLY he cannot have a mounted attack book added, although any general with two or more buffs on the default skill (including mounted attack etc) could actually have a additional mounted attack skill. This means I have opted for mounted defense, HP and march size increase. The march size increase or potentially the defense books could be replace with monster march speed or mounted troop speed (although I am not 100% certain on the effectiveness of the latter). The luck portion can be gained from general gear rings and so I don't recommend using a luck skill, if you want a second boss general (for joining other peoples rallies mostly) get baibars which has a default skill of 25% luck. The thing to keep in mind for troop types speeds is making an issue even worse in some cases; for instance in battle mounted are the fastest by far, so adding mounted troop speed to a general and then sending a mixed army is going to be a slaughter for your mounted as they are going to get hit even more than they already do. However other troop types that are slower, such as ground, can benefit from speed books in some cases. This is due to them having a lower range to attack from and being somewhat slow on the battlefield, increasing the speed can help exponentially in the correct circumstances.
@@EvonyGuides Thank you for the constructive feedback. I am loving this discussion, and I am glad you raised the point with regards to mounted troop speed. Currently, the general understanding of most of the players is that the battle mechanics are very similar to the old Evony games. For example, one theory is that mounted troop speed was said to be advantageous in the field as they are able to reach more of the ground/archer troops at the backline in PvP battles. But the hypothesis that you share is also logic in the sense that, if the mounted move faster, they will get killed sooner but when applied to a ground troop, they have better advantages in getting more kills towards the frontlines. Resources such as this are very difficult to find for a new player like myself as Evony did not reveal much about how their battle mechanics actually work. Perhaps a community should try to this out at lower keep levels and produce different results to test the outcomes. i.e. Investigating the effect on troop speed by having a 'test' K18 with a purple general with the skills that you want attacking another 'test' K18 with a selected troop composition.
Putting that aside, I have Washington and Baibars that I plan to use for boss hunting. With some skill books that are not usable due to the natural skill learnt by the general (i.e. Washington), this is why new generals like Roland shines so much because you are able to teach him Mounted Troop attack on top of his natural skill (Mounted troop boost). You add this up with Mounted troop HP and March size for him to be a strong PvE boss hunter compared to Washington. I wish I had the chance to get him during the event he was released during Easter.
Anyway, since I am still at K27, I spend most of my time farming (PvE). At the moment, B11s are the best I can hit with minimal wounded. Do you think at this time, I should focus more on using Baibars as my main general for hunting due to the general skill (Luck) OR having Washington to have a Level 4 Luck as one of the skills? I still think that the extra drop saves stamina and gives double the number of loot matters at K27 up to maybe K30, that is when you would want to slowly min-max your stats for your troops. Also lastly, would you only prioritise in mounted troop attack and mounted troop HP for main PvE for Baibars? Or is mounted troop defence better than HP?

@@Zim4o3 I'm sure at some point I will be able to do these tests, which have probably been done many times, just people don't care to share. The skill book quirk where if a general has two skills in one you can double up on it is odd but I use it on my gwan and other generals, Washington isn't my first choice but my current only choice unfortunately. If you are capable of ditching a skill book and using a luck skill book that is fine, although using gear is a little better to free up that space, If you can kill the same boss with baibar with similar losses but get that higher luck than a regular skill book for luck on a Washington, then feel free to go with baibar. It is my understanding that attack is the most important followed by HP however I have not done enough research as to why to be honest. I'm a little tired so apologies if I missed any sub questions

Can you have more than one resource gathering speed skill on a general? Like a wood, stone, and iron one all on the same general?
Yes you can have multiple given that they are different resources
How many different Skill Books are there? Is there a complete list somewhere?
Maybe like 30 skill books or so. There are attack, defence and HP books for all four troop types. Mounted speed, ground speed, range increase for siege and rsnged troops. Troop load books for all troop types. Gathering increases for all resource types. Sub building speed, training speed, training capacity and troop revival for subs. And a bunch of others
What’s good skill for Arminius? He would be good for ranged after reaching max general level. I am thinking to try hp, att and ranged bonus. But i lose so many gems for unpredictable chance ratio of book replacement during building keep25. It works myself to buy more lev 1skill book. That’s what I would not see pretty much of gems losses. Pray for me. ;)

I am trying to skill Napoleon (as main PvP general) and Tran Hung Dao (as Main city defense general) , what would be your recommendations?
I just wanted to ask are you aware these two generals will both benefit a lot from siege books and troops being used, which is very expensive for a smaller player to try and make the best use of
@@EvonyGuides I am fine with that, I have already have them both skilled in the same way; with Siege Attack, siege range Bonus, and Ranged troops attack, but was wondering if I should keep the ranged troops attack or changed to March size for Napoleon, and to Ground troop HP on Tran to enhance his special skill ?
@@MJ-ql7em I think you could leave them both as they are however if you wanted to forfeit your books and start again to get a march size on napoleon that could help. It is costly though depending on what level books you currently have

@@MJ-ql7em ah okay well you can go with what you currently have but of course napoleon is better for siege bombs than regular PvP, however can be paired with ranged troops to give you more diversity in the attacking march, therefore your ranged book on him is worthwhile, unless you are like 500M power.
Ok maybe you can help. How do you know what slot the book will go into. I had one with gold find 50% in the second slot. But when I put a book in my 2 open spots. It took the the one with the gold off and took it place. And the go.d O couldn’t find anymore. Pissed me off. So since I don’t know how to put them in the right slot. I haven’t been doing them. If you do a video let me know.
It is luck based given the percentages that you are talking about, for each subsequent book you add in (slots you fill) it will become harder to successfully fill the next slot. Also your books that get replaced will be permanently deleted. Therefore it is best to not use gold skill books, instead use level one skill books of the exact same type you would like to use first. Once you have successfully filled all slots with level one skill books of the types you want, replace them with higher level skill books which will always replace the corresponding level one with 100% efficiency
Is there any way to remove skill books from generals but still get the book back?
There is no way to remove skill books, you may replace them with another skill book but you will lose the original

You will get a great benefit out of gathering speed books, to a degree troop load will help on gathering and/or stealing from other players. Subordinate city skills are useful but aren't the best so if you didn't mind not having those you could sell those along with considering getting rid of troop defence books as they aren't always as good as HP and Attack stats. Make sure you keep range increases as well.. but anything i havent mentioned that you have may be sold to help you get those level 4's. I also just wanted to mention if you are only going for level 4s you could sell most level 2 and 3s as those aren't needed as much as 1s and 4s in this case
I wasn't obvious enough in my previous reply so do make sure you hold onto Attack and HP books for each troop type, do bare in mind you may need many duplicate level 1 skill books to complete the process of adding the books to your general effectively
Evony Guides Ok thank you. I have ranged attack and defense on Robert Guiscard as well as March size increase. Should I have gone hp instead of defense? I’ve heard defense is better for pvp while hp is better for bosses but I can’t confirm that.
@@Titan-df2op each troop type has a base attack, defence and HP. These base stats will effect the stats you will want more of, for instance ground have a relatively low attack so the other two are a priority.. but ground aren't a priority to build or use in PvP so it can be left for another day. This principle also applies to the other troop types, tending to be HP being better, also it has a different role in battle mechanics which tends to make it better. You will see most people opt for both HP and defence for ranged OR only HP. It is rare to see a top player with no HP book on their ranged general. This even applies to mounted, especially when it comes to bosses, you need as much Attack as possible, defence is not a priority really

I have watched a couple guides and I'm confused as to why you start with the level 1 books first? I only own level 3 ones right now
When using skill books, each book you add has a chance of overwriting another skill, if you add high level skills first, these may be lost forever. If you start with level one skills, these aren't as valuable and can be overwritten by the same skill of a higher level without any chanve of overwriting any other skill you want

@@ChezaraAsura Yes, it can take a while to fill all three slots with skill books as they overwrite one another. Although this is the best method to save those precious level 4 skill books. When you have filled all slots with the ones you want, simply overwrite with higher levels. These level one books can be bought from the academy skill book shop but can be on the expensive side

I do not play on this account now and therefore do not use the general anymore.. although taking a look at this footage i would say that the defence book that i used could be replaced with a HP book. Possible range increase for range instead of siege but only because i do not have enough siege

What effect does 'troop' speed have on attacks?
troop speed will just mean that your troops are able to kill more in less rounds of battle, however this can mean that your troops can also be killed easier/faster.. especially if you try to use mounted troop speed. This is due to mounted already being very fast, so making them faster leaves your army in the dust and the mounted don't get much backup for a while in battle. If you use a speed book for ground, it can be more beneficial as they are relatively slow with a low range anyway, but always make sure you send other troop types with them unless you are hitting a mostly ranged enemy army.
I use similar skill on one general already by mistake. Can I undo this? I don't want to waste one slot. Or do I fill in all four slots first, then replace one of them later? Can I do that? Please help.
As is shown in the video you should be using the exact skill you want, but level one first. This then allows you to replace these with the same skill of a higher level with 100% chance of replacing the same skill. As this involves replacing skills I'm sure you can deduct that you can overwrite the skill you want to replace just by adding more skills.

He is good with ranged troops and so you could use ranged attack, HP and range increase. Although siege can be useful for defense, if you have plenty of those you could opt for replacing the HP book with a siege range or siege attack book
Which 3 skill books would you use for Queen Boudica. (I will use her for city wall.)
You usually want to add books that are similar to a generals default skill, however it is difficult to recommend this for boudica due to her not having ranged or siege stats. If you can, try to get a defence general with those stats on them, such as ly thuong kiet. If not, perhaps consider adding Ranged HP, Attack and Range Bonus to them as mounted troops are not good on defense usually
@@EvonyGuides about mounted troops. should i not use mounted troops when i attack ncp sub citys? Thy are the ones who flees and being hurt all the time for me. lol
This is simply because they are faster than other troops, that are eating the brunt force of the enemy to save your other troops, although do give it a try sending less than usually die for you and/or try sending ONLY ground against an NPC city

I didn't put all level 1 skill books before adding level 4. If I try to add a level 1 now, will it replace a level or just go in an empty slot?
When using all level one skill books you will lose some along the way because they will overwrite others. Eventually all spots become full and you then have a 100% success rate when replacing them with the same skill book of any higher level. If you don't fill all slots with skill books first, you might overwrite another book rather than filling a free spot

@@mikeking9061 yes it can overwrite a level 4, which is why using level 1 first is so important as to not lose precious level 4's while filling the slots
Is there any less expensive way to get level 1 skill books than the *Skill Books Shop??*
I only ask because at a bare minimum of 3K gems each, this seems to be a very slow way to get the *HUGE* number of books you need to deal with the ridiculous RNG this game forces you to rely on to put a book on a general.
I say ridiculous RNG because almost without fail, it can take about 10 books to get a book to stick, and not overwrite another one. It says 50% chance / 25% chance, but *it feels like a much higher chance than that1!*
All i can say is that you will need to put effort into every available event, be it regular monarch events for gems or simply attacking boss monsters etc when you get time. these books can be a pain to get for one general let alone like 5, unless you are in an older server with access to tons of gems. It is unfortunate the luck some players get with applying these books, some do it instantly, some takes 50 books.
how to get a defalt skill book? i just got i gold general but she have no skillbook from start.
if they do not come with a skill book already applied on them, then they are a regular gold general that is not as good as a gold historic general that come with a default skill book
Hi. What 3 skill book would I use for Takeda Shingen?
takeda is good for attacking monsters and so I use Mounted Attack, Mounted HP and Mounted Defense.. or replace the defense for march size
How about Baibars? I just got him yesterday. What skills suit on him?
Can we remove already assigned skill book from a general. I have used most of my skill books on purple generals :/ pity..!!
Yoy may overwrite them with other skills, but it is not possible to remove them for use on a different general unfortunately

You will have a percentage chance displayed when applying a book, which will sometimes cause you to permanently lose a book. There is no way to decrease the chance of losing your book, however, you can use level one skill books of the exact type you want first. These aren't so expensive to lose and then can be replaced with the same level 4 skill book with 100% efficiency.

What happens when you disassemble a level 4 book
you will get skill book pages, when destroying a skill book you will get as many pages as its level, so level 4 will give 4 pages. when collecting 10 pages, you may create another random level 4 skill book from your inventory.
What books are best for Barbarossa
I would suggest Mounted HP, Mounted Attack and March Size Increase
@@EvonyGuides Apparently they've changed something in the game recently because March Size Increase is not working on Barbarossa anymore. I had to go with Mounted Troop Defense instead.

@@EvonyGuides That is correct. It was the same error as trying to put a Luck Skill Book on Cleopatra. However, It did let me add a skill book that matches his 2nd skill, Increase Mounted Troop Attack.
I'm not sure if it's a bug or if the developers have corrected a previous oversight... if it's not a bug, I suppose it may change the hierarchy of recommended generals?
@@richardpdudley i opened mine from the inventory to check and yes that is correct it will not allow a march size increase so that may have just been always like that i just did not have him till recently, it usually allows to add books when they have two or more skills like you said with mounted attack but apparently not for the march size

he is good for stealing resources or gathering them. It is best to use troop load books for siege and other troop types if needed, or gathering speed books if you wish to use him for that use
