@@southerngirlcooks got it! I've always been taught to use the long skinny for better flavor, but I'm going to try the plump and compare the taste, thanks
Has anyone tried it with some lemon juice yet? Just wondering if that's a winning combo to add to this recipe. I tried someone else's recipe and my kids didn't like it. I hope this will be better. Thanks so much for explaining very well.
Justin, not a problem. I see a lot of people suggesting lemon extract. Haven't heard anything about lemon juice. Thanks for watching. Please consider subscribing.
Right.. I could not focus on her recipe once I seen her stick that mixer back in that mix with all them strings on it. Then once it got soupy and she put it back in the bowl again and all them strings was in that mix total lost interest. I know her ancestors screaming but nice try tho.
You could easily run the sweet potato mixture through a strainer into another bowl prior to putting it into the pie shell. Only one extra step. OBTW this comment was only meant for the people that are seriously concerned about the strings.
Ingredients: For 1 deep dish pie: 1 (1 pound) sweet potato • 1/2 cup butter, softened • 1 cup white sugar • 1/2 cup milk • 2 eggs • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract • 1 (9 inch) deeep dish unbaked pie crust For 2 traditional pies: •1.5 pounds sweet potato • 3/4cup butter, softened • 1.5 cup white sugar • 3/4cup milk • 3eggs • 3/4teaspoon ground nutmeg • 3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon • 1.5 teaspoon vanilla extract • 2 (9 inch) unbaked pie crust Directions: 1. Pie will puff up like a souffle, and then will sink down as it cools. ***If you get "strings" of potato after you beat the sweet potato, rinse the beaters and mix potato again. Repeat this process if necessary!
DeeDee, don't look at it as "one potato". It is a one pound potato with a 1/2 cup butter, which is one stick of butter. For 10 pies, you would use 10 pounds of sweet potato and 5 cups or 10 sticks of butter.
TIP : If beating sweet potatoes and rinsing beaters before adding any other ingredients you will gather more of the strings and save on your costly ingredients. In other words remove the strings before adding ingredients! I do this two or three times before adding other ingredients. Don’t you just hate stringy sweet potato pie !
This pie looked good, but I like to see cooks make sure that they get all of the strings out of the potatoes, washing the beaters off several times times before adding all other ingredients. I made it a habit of cracking each egg in a clear bowl before I mixed them into whatever I'm cooking. You don't want to make the mistake of putting a bad egg in your food, nor do you want shells in your food.
I totally agree with you on the eggs, I also puree my sweet potatoes, wether they are baked or boiled! Naies can eat them, because they have no strings!
Ummm? Does that meant that they are not burned or dark in color? If so, that was the look I was going for. Thanks for watching and subscribing. Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours! 😍
I did not find her mixture too watery? Otherwise, you can add 1T of flour to your mixture to bind all ingredients, and mix thoroughly with the hand mixer.
I didn't like when she was making a sweet potato pie because when you make a sweet potato pie you supposed to try to remove all the strings from the sweet potato pie she did not rinse the mixer Styx she continue to mix the potato up without removing the strings from sweet potato pie but I guess that's how some people make it hey what can I say so out of 10 I give her a 6
If you looked carefully at the beater tools, you don't see any strings, so there were none to remove. As a tip, when you use round sweet potatoes there are very few strings, almost none. The rounder the potato, the fewer strings you have to worry about.
FINALLY A SIMPLE SIMPLE RECIPE ONLY MAKING ONE PIE AT A TIME thank you so very much

Is this similar to a custard consistency? Looks delicious! I want to try a sweet potato pie this year, instead of pumpkin! Definitely going to try! Thank you! :)
Hi! The consistency is not like that of a custard, but rather it is the same consistency of a pumpkin pie. :) It's so Good!
@@southerngirlcooks awesome! Thank so much for the response. Definitely going to try it! I appreciate it!

So did you thaw the pie crust at room temperature first or was that crust straight from frozen and then filled?
Hi!! It was straight from the freezer, filling added and straight to the oven
Do you ever use orange colored yams instead of sweet potatoes?
No. Tell me more.
@@southerngirlcooks , I went to the store yesterday and the only sweet potatoes they had were labeled “white sweet potatoes “ the other potatoes were labeled “yams” and the yams were bright orange color, but the sweet potatoes were a cream/white color. I’ll check other stores to see if they sell orange colored sweet potatoes. If I don’t find orange colored sweet potatoes I’ll just use the orange colored yams. Thank you for your reply!!
@@seacoast4950 Hi! I would try another store. Yams have a different flavor than sweet potatoes.

Awesome Awesome recipe only thing I'll add is 1/2 tsp of lemon extract... Please try it u want regret it takes the pie to a whole nother level 😋😋
That sounds soooo good! Thanks :)
That is what my mom put in her pies, a touch of lemon extract!! The bomb!
I noticed you never removed the strings off of the mixer also 1 potatoe with the same amount of ingredients as 3 LG. Potatoes

I noticed some ppl who makes sweet potato 🥧,they add the egg in too bfre tasting it.I taste my filing first nd if it is at a good sweet taste like I want it,then I'll add in my eggs last.I seen this other lady's YT channel,nd she added 9 eggs into her sweet potato pies.I think she made 4 pies nd I think she used 4 or 5 potatoes.Anyways, she said she uses 9 eggs bc it makes the pie more firmer nd you supposed to use 2 eggs per potato.Do y'all know anybody else that does that nd if so how do it taste.I'm thinking it'll be too eggy idk,she saud that's how her Moma made her sweet potato 🥧

You don’t remove the strings in your potatoes?
The strings stick to my beaters. I NEVER have a problem with strings. Make sure you are buying rounded potatoes. They are less stringy.

Evaporated milk is added at 4:10 and also listed under the ingredients, in the description box, and, lastly, mentioned in the assembly instructions. 😊

One thing I do is after beating your sweet potato rinse the strings off the beater. 😁
ABSOLUTELY!!
me too, I didn't see her do that
@@badams2927 It was not necessary for me to do it because I did not purchase the long skinny potatoes that result in a lot of strings. The plump potatoes are not stringy. If I have no choice but to buy stringy, long skinny potatoes, it is then when I rinse the beaters.
@@southerngirlcooks got it! I've always been taught to use the long skinny for better flavor, but I'm going to try the plump and compare the taste, thanks
If you cut the ends off it's less stringy. They make me gag
As soon as they say 'boil'..on with the search.
Thanks for watching
Watching this sweet potato pie video and she didn't remove the strings omg
❤
I like to put a like bit of pure Almond extract in minds as well
Omg!! I am hungry now! Mmm.yum!!
Your pie looks good, but I think you should have taken the Strings off the beaters so it won't get back into your pie🤔
That is the technique that I use, when necessary. 😊
Right.. I could not focus on her recipe once I seen her stick that mixer back in that mix with all them strings on it. Then once it got soupy and she put it back in the bowl again and all them strings was in that mix total lost interest. I know her ancestors screaming but nice try tho.
@@Kay.Martinez Bless your heart! Thanks for watching
You could easily run the sweet potato mixture through a strainer into another bowl prior to putting it into the pie shell. Only one extra step. OBTW this comment was only meant for the people that are seriously concerned about the strings.
@@Doone226 Thanks for the feedback. :)
Award winning? The potatoes are boiled, she didn't use a food processor to remove the strings, no heavy cream
Thanks for watching 😊
I have had sweet potato pie where the crust wasn't blind baked first and it took away from the pie itself. I feel that blind baking is essential.
Thanks for your feedback, Robert! :)
👍

I add some lemon Extract
I thought a whole stick of butter excessive for 1 potato. What if I were making 10 pies?
Janice, thanks for your feedback and thanks for watching😍
I totally agree with you on the eggs, I also puree my sweet potatoes, wether they are baked or boiled! Naies can eat them, because they have no strings!
Yes you have to rinse the paddles at least 5-8 times
Them pies looked too lightskin 👀
Ummm? Does that meant that they are not burned or dark in color? If so, that was the look I was going for. Thanks for watching and subscribing. Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours! 😍
Lol. The potatoes will have a more intense orange color if baked and not boiled.

Best choose young ones and steam it rather than boil
Estelita, thanks for your feedback. How do you choose the young ones? :)
Is there a big difference if you don’t put condensed milk into the recipe?
Hi! I have only ever used evaporated milk for this recipe. I would guess that, with condensed milk, you have a much sweeter pie.
I’m sorry , I meant the evaporated milk
Evaporated milk is richer and creamier than whole milk.
Mixture is to watery....use less milk.
Thanks for the feedback. The mixture thickens when baked and as the finished product cools.
I did not find her mixture too watery? Otherwise, you can add 1T of flour to your mixture to bind all ingredients, and mix thoroughly with the hand mixer.
Thanks, Cynthia!
@@southerngirlcooks You're welcome!
@Anne Collins Thanks Anne and Happy Baking!
I didn't like when she was making a sweet potato pie because when you make a sweet potato pie you supposed to try to remove all the strings from the sweet potato pie she did not rinse the mixer Styx she continue to mix the potato up without removing the strings from sweet potato pie but I guess that's how some people make it hey what can I say so out of 10 I give her a 6
Patricia, thanks for your feedback. If strings had been an issue, they would've been removed. Thanks for watching. Happy Holidays!😍
If you looked carefully at the beater tools, you don't see any strings, so there were none to remove. As a tip, when you use round sweet potatoes there are very few strings, almost none. The rounder the potato, the fewer strings you have to worry about.
Some people look for problems and when they don't see any they will create one. That was a perfectly made pie. Looks delicious.!
