I've been married 26 years. My husband and I decided to have a small wedding with just our immediate families. We were married in December in NJ, so it was definitely an inside event, so we had a private room in a nice restaurant. It was perfect and not expensive. The following summer, we had a big BBQ for all our friends and extended family, which worked out well. Spend the money on the things that serve you in the long run...a beautiful honeymoon trip, things for your home etc.

Agreed. I didn’t spend an excessive amount on my wedding either. My husband and I set the budget for $10k and didn’t go over it because we were investing in our new home together. Thankfully, we closed 1 month before our wedding day. After our honeymoon we had the best time buying these for the house, decorating… such good memories. ❤️

Getting married in your backyard is not a bad Idea you save money and it’s where the memories will last forever for the both of you. In the end you’ll appreciate it. What’s important is you guys love each other that means it doesn’t matter where you guys get married it will be the perfect place.

Your backyard wedding is going to be beautiful. My husband and I got married in our newly purchased home 7 years ago and it turned out beautiful. We turned our living room/dining room, into a “chapel” and then a sit down reception. We also had a DJ in our family room where we continued the reception with dancing and everything else that’s done at a reception.
‘Til this day, people still talk about how nice our wedding was. All that to say, be encouraged. Your wedding will be beautiful.

I understand Marcus’ point about having the wedding in a separate space, where you can be done and go home and start your life. I’ve done a lot of pre and post wedding cleanups and I’m not even married. 🤦🏾♀️
I agree. I will be difficult to keep the masses outside. Most will gravitate into your home. You can have a rehearsal dinner or other wedding events at the home which are more intimate.
My friend hired had a pre and post cleanup/ decorator crew so it was great that they didn’t have to do that part!
My husband and I had a very small wedding and reception in 1985, and on our 25th anniversary we had the wedding of my dreams at our church and a lakeside reception at a nice venue. It was very beautiful, and cost effective.

Hey yall happy for you both why dont you all get married in the backyard and the reception in a nice hall. We did this for my daughter and it turned out fine. A largetent n case it rain, but whatever you choose it will be great. Good lick!

Have your ceremony with family and close friends in the back yard. Have your receptions and party with food, band, and cake at another place for all to attend. Doing it this way will cost you less.

Use some of the money for a clean up crew after the wedding and reception in the backyard...and have someone you trust to supervise while you all go off to a hotel and come back to your house after your honeymoon. 😁

To one of my favorite couples…Happy New Year! I’m so looking forward to seeing what’s ahead for you in the new year and all of the plans you have for your home. The beauty of a wedding is not about the space, it’s about the unity of two people who truly love each other. In my opinion, a small setting with people who are closest to you would be a lot more intimate and special.

That's so close to mine. Hubby and I got married in my brother-in-laws living room just me, him, his brother and sister-in-law and minister. On August 23, 1980 and we still together. Honestly it's not about the wedding but the marriage. Wishing you both the best..

My fiancé and I will be getting married in 2023 or 2024 and we’ve decided to forego a wedding venue as well because we have a lot better things to spend money on and at the end of the day it’s not about how much money you spend ON your wedding, it’s about how you spend the time AT your wedding. I bought some land in 2021 so we will be working on building a house this year and next and will get married at the house in the yard if we can get the grass to grow back in after building.😂

To get around the "aftermath", have the bags packed and ret 2 go! Leave after the ceremony even if to a local hotel for the night b4 hoping a flight to honeymoon. Commission your family to clean and reset the house for your return. And hopefully they would leave something special for you upon return like a wine n snack basket or some plush bathrobes or whatever would make you feel special once you get home.💖

Happy New Year! The grass seed "mousse" that gets sprayed down from a hose attached to a truck grows incredibly fast, and looks like turf. Not sure how pricey that would be, and don't know if that includes the soil prep before the spray.

August is absolutely awesome indeed and means a lot to me because my birthday is August 30th, my amazing granddaughter who we have been legal guardians to since August 2015 when she was 11 months old will be turning 8 on August 27th, and most importantly all the wonderful memories that you two share for that month. When things align they just do you know. And most definitely The Glass Slipper Fits is most enchanting, totally let that be it!!! I am elated for you two and your families. U can always do a destination wedding they're pretty much all inclusive and ur guests pay for their own flights/hotel, etc.. OR a wedding on a beach, then hv the reception nearby. I agree w/Marcus ppl need to leave & not be in ur home personal space. 🤔

One little suggestion if I may.. I’m a caterer and FOOD is always on my mind so… Marcus, please put a little more thought into your ideal menu for your special day. Keeping in mind an outside venue in August.. I’m hot already lol but I’m also old and having hot flashes 🤣BUT a heavy “soul food” inspired menu might not be the absolute best option. I’m sure you all can incorporate soul food but just keep in mind the heaviness of most of those items. I know that yawl are gonna knock this out of the park and I’m super excited for this journey. What kind of menu or mix would you suggest for August?
@@MarcusCq That would be hard to say without asking a multitude of other questions lol BUT somethings to consider would be.. the time of your event, the predicted weather along with the venue (it’s great that you all are considering tents 👏🏾), your overall theme and “vibe” or your event, of course budget is to be considered, as well as try your best to consider dietary restrictions for some of your most special/important guests. These are just a few things off the top of my head. Once you all shop around for catering, they’ll help get you exactly where you need to be. Yawl know that we are always here too. We’re rocking with you and our gyrl right on down that aisle 😃😃

You all are working this out. Have you ever considered a nice hotel space. They have nice banquet rooms. I went to a wedding where everything was right in the one room.. wedding. Dancing and dinner.. you don't have to clean up when you leave. Also there are outdoor places like a garden or large courtyard that you can get.
I'm thinking like Marcus, the big clean up after people leave.

Word of caution when you get the trees cut down... There's a big possibility you'll see field mice on the property or even in the house. If you do, know that's where they came from. Have a conversation with the people who will be cutting them down on what you can do to minimize that from happening on the front end...

this comment is to Kayla please please rethink your decision because unless your wedding is going to be VERY intimate you need to consider the usage of washrooms and other accomadations and spaces also whos going to replenish and clean after each guest when they use your facilities thats not a burden that should be put on family and friends they should e allowed to share and enjoy the experience and festivities with you and Marcus seriously THINK ABOUT IT
