    TV-am comes to an end for another day at 9.15, followed by a ten-minute pause for switching -- not, at this point, required for the Birmingham infrastructure which has already been converted to automated switching, so the switch happens at 9.15 on the dot, but the rest of the period remains to keep the network in sync.

    The Irony is that more people have watched this clip than those who watched it live at the time...

    Thanks to TH-cam now identifying the music for monetisation purposes, I can now identify the tracks used. They are all from the album "Love Stories", KPM 1275, composed by Dick Walter. The liner notes detail that these tracks are "A collection of four thematic suites, scored for piano and orchestra in varying combinations, portraying the moods and emotions of human relationships." The album can be downloaded from iTunes.

    I'm watching this clip and rather annoyingly I have Christopher Williams etched in my brain.

      Can't be him, the caption's in its correct proportions and aspect ratio, and the music's tolerable. 😉

      I read that comment and now I can't stop laughing...
      "wheeeze... ITV programmes ...wheeze... follow shortly ...wheeze... as we conclude ...wheeze... our broadcasting hours ...wheeze... as contracted by ...wheeze... the IBA ...wheeze... whom are located ...wheeze... not far from our studios here in ...wheeze... Camden ...wheeze..."

    The IBA could've picked a more appropriate music for the 10 minute filler for the morning between TV-am and the main ITV franchises across the country, so they went with a rather grim music selection. At least Central had a much more welcoming feel at 9.25am (despite being taken over by Carlton later on, even though I live in London).

      If the switch to Broad Street happened at 9.15 in this clip, then surely Central picked this music?

    • @antster1983
      @antster1983 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Nope, this music's coming from BT Tower. Besides, all ITV regions had their own copies of the music from the IBA.

      10:44 is when the switch to Central happens.

    • @cjmillsnun
      @cjmillsnun 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Proof that it's coming from the BT Tower and not from Broad Street? My guess is the IBA asked Central to show the slide and play the music, as British Telecom would not have anything to push that slide to their transmitters.

    That would never be allowed these days, nearly a minute of silence. They'd be fined for 'dead air' (although I suppose the fact there is still visual as it's TV, might get away with it)

    If this was here in the States, ABC, NBC, and CBS would've thrown in a test pattern or a promo feed for affiliates to record.

    Only a single IBA slide on this junction then, unlike on the previous one uploaded. Different slide as well, suprised they ever needed to change the slide for a 10 minute break that existed for less than 4 months. Would this slide have been coming from Central, TV-am or somewhere else?

    • @antster1983
      @antster1983 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      -This slide’s coming from the switching station at BT Tower.-
      Forget what I originally wrote, I now believe it to come from TV-am.

    After the professionalism of ATV and Central couldn't get one slide to match. Central presentation was appalling until autumn 1985 when the cake arrived.

      My region was Granada but we had Central on the DX. Central's continuity was so much brighter, animated, generally better so I watched it through snow on the upstairs portable.

    I really don't know what to make of the matter of library music being copyright claimed and/or Content ID'd. Doesn't that kind of go against the entire point of library music?

    Judging by the clothes Frosty and Anna are wearing (as seen here - th-cam.com/video/3tPonOBNUuA/w-d-xo.html), I'd say this was from TV-am's second day - Tuesday 3 February 1983. But of course I could be wrong!

    • @transdiffusion
      @transdiffusion  9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      +Anthony Hobson Yes, that would be consistent with the VHS tape it comes from, which has several snatches of TV-am and Central on that day (interspersed with recordings from other days: videotape was stupidly expensive in 1983). But we've learnt to never trust the chronology of our archives: it rarely serves us very well!

      +Transdiffusion Broadcasting System If it's from the second day, then I presume that means Central was equipped for automatic switching from the start of TV-am. I guess being one of the major regions means they were equipped earlier.

      +2001JamesTV Which is confusing, as we've got other Central recordings from April with the manual switch clearly visible. Nothing about TV-am handovers is ever straightforward!

      Central was acquired by Carlton in 1994 and in 1999 turned to Carlton Central, from 2002 to today is ITV1 Central
