I have seen this opera umpteen times and 10-12 live and I still get teary eyed at the end.....Zafano did it well although many critics will take issue! Zeff could blow up a budget but he does present the goods!
Ghena Dimitrova was the first Turandot I saw (on TV). Nicola Martinucci was Calaf and as good as he was, he looked as if Dimitrova could eat him alive.
Very opulent production. Great singing by the principals, but somehow lacking. Perhaps it's the production itself which seems to be upstaging the singers. Or perhaps it's the camera from a distance, which encompasses the stage but doesn't focus on the very important stars of the opera - which would give us a more intimate relationship with them. And in the theater one chooses where to direct one's attention, not the camera's vantage.
This Zeffirelli production was not made for video cameras but for the gigantic MET stage...and that is how you should experience it (if you have a chance). I can guarantee you that you will be stunned by this production....decades later. The MET will play it again next season - hopefully.
Singing bad beyond belief. What went on in the middle of the word ‘straniero’? Zeffirelli’s gay baroque plus wobbling from hell. Elon, take me with you to Mars.
Turandot needs to be lavish, but this is ridiculous. The stage is so densely packed it clutters the action. If this brief sample is typical of the entire production I want no more. Tasteless (not unusual for the Met in more recent years) and the singing could be better, especially the vibrato-dominated chorus. Yuck!
If you have a chance next season to see it live...take it! This is by far the most "over the top" Turandot production you will ever see - but it is absolutely amazing. Videos can not capture the raw power the entire ensemble and everyone working in this production is throwing at you. Unforgettable experience....!
Minha avó teria amado ver esse pequeno trecho... que coisa mais fantástico

I attended in 1988, or was it 1987? That's a long time ago... with the terrifying Ghena Dimitrova! Unforgettable.

Mr ZEFFIRELLI, magicien de la mise en scène !!!
Дзефирелли постановщик, который понимал, что сценография должна соответствовать величию музыки. Потрясающе 1
I'm so mad this is the production they're showing in theaters, I mean: yes it's opulent, but the singing is good not great and this opera needs great.
I'm just cringing that they're all white lol
Ohhhhh.... Que belleza, no me cabe en el cuerpo tanta emoción. Gracias.
RIP Franco Zeffirelli
This is at the top of my bucket list! One day!!
Where do they find these singers? AAAILLZZUONOOMEEE-EEEEE-AHAHAAHAAAHAAAAHAAAA
Grandioso
Turandot is basically a witch without the magic.
I've just put seeing this live on my bucket list
do it. Is intense and moving
Very good! Bravo!!!
Maravilloso
Where is the volume? Turandot is pure theatre + gorgeous music.
What’s the Soprano’s name? May anyone tell me please?
Nina stemme
That's wild. But if they actually sing in Mandarin, I will pay for the tracks 100%.
The reason it is not sang in Mandarin is that the composer of this opera is Italian.

Yeah I see what you mean. I think it’s largely the camera focusing on the wrong spots.

Marco Berti s Calaf ??
Beautiful ❤️
Whos the emperor
Bravo Marco Berti!!!
Hey Opera lovers here is a TH-cam channel where one boy sings like old school baritone. The channel's name is. "Opera: a luxury".
I'm here because of an Otamatone...
I want the fall vision🥺🥺please someone help me
Uu
This is terrible in every way
why is the official is allowed to sit while the emperor and prince have to stand?
The Emperor is sitting, he's the old man in black.
Kind of militaristic with too much bombast.
Singing bad beyond belief. What went on in the middle of the word ‘straniero’? Zeffirelli’s gay baroque plus wobbling from hell. Elon, take me with you to Mars.

@@tfleiter "Unforgettable" - no matter how hard I try!
the only opinion that matters is that of the public and it is not for nothing that this 1987 production is still iconic and amazing
