My girl friend and I had a very nice chat with Donnie last night at Attica (Doty Event). He was a total joy to talk with....answered a ton of questions. Donnie is a very nice man. He said he hadn't seen the movie yet and that it took almost 3 years to complete. Count me in as a 15 fan. An excellent hard charger, and a guy who races clean. Wishing him the best in the future.

Been around sprint cars since the 60's. Living in California when the Outlaws came to town we had our local favorites. My daughter took me for a bunch of outlaw races on one of my birthdays. One night most of the crowd was booing Donny. I had never talked to him in the past. I told her I am going to go talk to Donny in the pits and see for myself and get my opinion of this man. Went and talked with Donny and then I got my first shirt with Donny Schatz on it. We have traveled all the way across the US to see the outlaws and Donny has always had time to talk. My favorite night he won an A-main and I wanted one of his old tires to put in my new shop. I asked him if I could get a right rear for my shop wall. He said how would you like the right rear off of my car from tonight's win. He don't know me from adam but he treats me like a friend and I will be his fan for ever. I was at the tee shirt trailer and met Danny and Diane and I realized the apple don't fall far from the tree. Had some great talks with them and one night Danny told me stories from there start in racing and had all the time in the world to chat. (R.I.P. Danny, see you on the other side for some more stories.)

"Book by its cover" As a long time CA fan, I've never been big on Donny.
As the years pass I can't, not see, the accomplishments he's made in Sprint car racing.
Your story along with this documentary, which has testaments from some of my heros, shows he's like most all of us, Genuinely a good guy.
My condolences to the Schatz family for their loss of Danny Schatz.

I saw this movie for sale at Schatz's truck in Knoxville, so cool to watch this on TH-cam. I first saw him in 2006 and being a Fargo native I've been a fan since. Watching his Outlaws and Nationals dominance in the 2010s was incredible but this most recent 2022 Nationals win, especially with the passing of Danny... That was something really special. Thanks for the awesome memories, Donny.

I am from a racing family in Massachusetts and traveled a lot of roads by tractor trailer.. I've watched Donny race a lot including ny state. Went to Petro .on east side of ND .saw his memorabilia and bought sweatshirts hats and tees for me and my daughter.headed to Minot to drop load off for the main co paving the expanding city of Williston but stated at a truck stop in Minot .saw more of Donnie's stuff their..not realizing it was his family's till I saw the name up on the fuel island then it sank in. His mom was there..haven't met him but would like to. It was a pleasant experience for me I felt I was connect.. what a surprise for me.made the trip even better. Happy for him and his family .great place to go and eat..the Minot stop.then to see how much the oil fields were changing everything there in a big way any way go Donny keep on racing .the video was awesome. .thanks to the shots family.

Awesome story, I remember as a kid growing up going to Premier Speedway in Australia, this yank coming out and cleaning up the Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic 2 years in a row in 2001/02 and thinking this guy will be the next big thing after Steve Kinser and sure enough he has gone on to be one of the all time greats and a driver I have a tonne of respect for on ya don don!!!

That was worth the 1 hour and 15 minutes to get inside the mind of the greatest modern era sprint car driver. I think what hes done and his dominance at Knoxville is more impressive than the Kings run and wins. The modern era has better competition and better equipment all around. Hes truly a special talent.

This is the first comment I have ever been compelled to post on any site about any subject, but I really want to thank All who put this together. I love how you have captured the commitment, focus, and desire this whole family has displayed. It is a model for all of us to see how you get something done in this Great country and it is exactly the type of content I love to see about my favorite sport.

I got my introduction to Sprint Car racing at Baylands in the SF Bay region. I moved away but with TH-cam I have been able to reconnect and something about Donnie Schatz attracted me and I have been a big fan of Donnie ever since.. Fifteen goes a long way in explaining who Donnie is. I love the stories of Donnie on his tricycle with his dad's helmet and tear-offs convincing his sisters to throw mad at him.. One issue I have though is that I don't know the faces of many of the people in this video.

So much great talent in this country alone that don't have both parents in the home or any kind of family support that will never see the inside of a real winning car or team for that matter. The problem I have is these drivers that make it to the level of successful professional hardly ever reach back and give a hand up to the ones that are struggling to be something or love racing more than they did or do. Its disgusting and selfish.

After Brian Brown ran 2nd to Donnie Schatz at the Knoxville Nationals for the third time.
Donnie said: *_"He's (Brian Bown) going to win this race someday."_*
*NO HE'S NOT!* It's mean to falsely build up somebody like that.
Donnie should have said ............ *_"Yeah he ran 2nd, but he'll never win it."_* Wouldn't that have been nicer?
