    #sewing #howtosew #sewingtutorial
    Hi Everyone and Welcome Back To My Bucolic Life Channel. Meet my new sewing tutorial.
    This is a very different type of skirt. When it is finished it is two totally separate pieces, all ready to button together. I customized my version by using an upcycled fabric for the contrast, and then free motion quilting it. Lots of fun techniques there and an introduction to a keyhole buttonhole.
    I love this skirt and hope you enjoy the video!
    ~Marie

    Very creative. Agree completely about button placement - it’s about style and function and is necessarily custom.

    I love what you have done, contrast fabric looks so rich after the quilting. You made it in to a designer styled skirt. I don't like green but that is going to look great with the dark green shirt. x

    What a cute skirt! It’s got a bit of a bohemian feel for me with the goldenrod solid fabric, that luscious floral print & the wonderful quilting. I’m a fan of those floral dark green buttons. They add a sweet feminine touch. Thanks for sharing your lovely project. Can’t wait to see the dark green flannel shirt you’re planning.

    I can tell you really love how this skirt turned out! As do I. The colours really suit you, and I like that it's a trans-seasonal garment. Also, your use of fabrics rendered this a classic "upcycle" project.

    Hummingbirds! Lovely big sewing video and... Hummingbirds! I could watch them all day, except we don't have them in New Zealand. Just as well, I'd never get a thing done.
    Edited to add - now that I've watched it all and not just the hummingbirds - I really love the skirt. You've turned into a "designer skirt" with all the special touches you've done and it looks wonderful. Honestly - when I'm not wearing it I'd be proud to display that on my mannequin as something gorgeous to inspire me in my sewing room. 100/100!

    Fab. Just Fab, Marie (or should I say ‘Maria’ since I’m having flashes of sound of music while I write this). No doubt you’ll be milking the cows and feeding the chickens in this skirt in cooler weather, doing rural life in style, as always. But honestly, it’s so lovely and I hope it’s kept for special times! The green flannel is perfect. ‘Lifts’ the palette a little, in my opinion. I just completed a ‘shacket’ today in light weight denim and I love it. We are so blessed to have this hobby. X

    Normally I say what a lovely garment, but this time that's just not adequate! I can't imagine what one would pay in a boutique for a skirt like that! It's beautiful and you made it look so doable! I don't really understand the crossed pleat thing, but other than that I would have a try at this skirt. I look forward to watching the flannel top. Excellent job and great skills you have demonstrated and taught us. Thank you for opening your sewing room to us trying to learn and understand patterns. I have a question regarding serging the cut pieces before sewing. Do you use the knife while serging? I am concerned it would change the dimensions of the piece after being serged… can you please let us know? Thank you once again for your dedication!

    • @mybucoliclife
      @mybucoliclife  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello! I do use a knife, but I try to be very careful to only trim off stray threads and not strips of fabric. That way the piece should stay close to the original cut size. Thanks for watching!

    I love the skirt and would love to wear them but I have a very very large belly so they look terrible on me. Would love a Facebook group. I’d love to come to a retreat but I’m in California and I think it would be hard to bring my machine.

      I was just thinking about once in the early 90's I had to fly to another state to do a bunch of last minute bridesmaid dresses, and I took my machine as a carry on! It fit in the overhead bin :) Not sure if I would be doing that now, but fun memories of hauling the machine through LAX

    Where did you get the quilting foot? Did you disengage the feed dog?

    • @mybucoliclife
      @mybucoliclife  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello! So on my treadle you can't lower the feed dogs, at all. Some people put a metal plate over them. I tried that but didn't like it because if it shifted just a little your needle breaks. I just set the stitch length to 0 so they are only going up and down. I also adjust the presser foot with the knob on top so it isn't pressing down as hard. I bought my foot on ebay. Look up quilting foot or darning foot. :)

    Your fabric combo choice looks so nice, but I don’t think there is a color that doesn’t look good on you.
    While I was watching this, I kept thinking of other applications for this technique. A quilted vest would look amazing. Leaving the garment side of life and moving more into crafting, how about a tote bag or a journal cover? So many directions you could go by just changing the fabric color and design.
