***I Met Bonnie in 1974 when she came to visit Lowell George of LITTLE FEAT, at Blue Seas recording studio in Hunt Valley Maryland, my home town*** ... Little Feat was cutting the album "FEATS DON'T FAIL ME NOW", my older brother was one of the engineers or electrical techs and I got to hang out, listen to and watch this album being made almost every night until the wee hours in the morning! .... Bonnie walked in one evening and I fell instantly in love, she smelled soooo good, I had no idea who she was! .... I was only 14 or 15 at the time, anyway, got to meet her and flirt like a dumb kid..... I got to work for in later years a time or two, she remembered the meeting in 1974, very nice lady..... The music world is very small in America! .... On a side note: The BLUE SEAS recording studio was owned by the great songwriting bass player of the band THE LOVIN SPOONFUL, Mr. Steve Boone..... That's how I got started being a roadie for the stars and later a professional personal bodyguard for all the great celebs and not so great celebs. ..... It helps to know people

When I was younger, I couldn't appreciate Bonnie Raitt. Probably because I was neck deep into Motorhead's '1916', plus some other scintillating sounds that ran across the same lines.
But now I listen to Miss Bonnie play, and I know in my heart and soul, there is something beyond this life. Plus she has that whole ginger, Vampira thing happening, but that's a story for another day and time. My favorite clip of Miss Bonnie features her and Mavis Staples doing a cover of Dylan's, 'Well, Well, Well'...powerful medicine, I s**t you not.

Hi Fil, I think I told you in a note that my good High School friend had left town with Johnny Winter back in the early 70s to play drums for him. Years later he called me to come to a Bonnie Raitt show in New Jersey. He was her stage manager at that point. We had dinner with Bonnie, Jackson Brown and Bruce Hornsby. It was an amazing evening and great seats for the show. She had two tour buses, one was a workout gym. The other musicians and stage crew shared two other tour buses, like 14 guys bunking it together. Ah, the good old days. LOL Great video.

I remember an old interview where she was saying that Lowell George of Little Feat showed her how to link up 2 compressors on different settings to get that infinite sustain (as long as you kept the slide moving). She did backup vocals on Little Feat's earlier albums. Her sound and vibrato are very similar to his. I don't see too many Lowell George slide solos on TH-cam, but there's one on "Little Feat - Cold Cold Cold - Holland" near the end, and up to that point in the song you can see the similarities between them. There's also an audio only version of the same song with Raitt on lead vocals. Also "Apolitical Blues - Little Feat and Mick Taylor - Extended Version".

Emmylou and Linda made a great album, Trio (and a follow-up) with Dolly Parton. Some beautiful old-timey songs, harmonies and three of my favorite voices!

Fell in love with her LP Sweet Forgiveness when I was a teen, every single song on the LP was amazing, and saw her in concert several times in the 80s.

Michael Finnigan on the organ. He started off with Dave Mason in the early years. Then picked up by Crosby, Stills, and Nash. Super vocals as well. Has his own blues band at present.

@@vandalnonesuch8274 Been a long time since I have seen the cover of Electric Ladyland. I did a Google and pulled up the Wiki. Not only was Finnagan a player but, Al Kopper, Stere Windwood, Dave Mason, Buddy Miles, Jack Cassidy, and more top of the crop artist.

This is what I was waiting for. I love Bonnie Raitt. She has been a consummate artist. I love her bluesy guitar and her singing. Just a treasure in our musical landscape. Thank you my dear Fil, for giving us this wonderful analysis of her music. She had a wonderful time actually meeting the great Blues Players while she was learning her craft. I am looking forward to seeing you show her journey, or whatever you show will be first rate I know. :)

Bonnie used to hang out on the West Bank of Minneapolis many years ago. She was playing all those dives with us while she was making her first album.. one of the (I believe uncredited) producers of that first album was Willie Murphy of the Angel Headed Hipsters. She used to drink at Palmers bar and the Viking as well as the Five Corners Saloon whose small stage had been graced with the performances of a young Bob Dylan when he first moved to Minneapolis from his hometown in northern Minnesota a couple of years before he moved to New York to seek fortune and fame. Bonnie’s Minneapolis contemporaries at that time we’re Spider John Koerner, Dave Ray, Tony Glover, Peter Lang and of course the aforementioned Willie Murphy who still plays regular gigs locally.

Spot on as always, Fil! Bonnie's playing is so laid back and understated in this track, and she's not afraid to lay out and let the band shine. Such a pro. When you get back to Bonnie, I wanna hear about her Runaway!

Bonnie does that every time. She's not a big arena artist, intimate rooms work best for her and her to die for voice and slide. Bonnie is intimate!.
