For some reason the KML file isn't able to be imported to google my maps and I don't understand what the issue is. I wanted all counties in the states, and didn't remove anything as is shown in the video. What could the issue be?
hey! im trying to make one of texas state districts but the file size is way too big for google maps. limit is 5mb and its a 13 mb file. would you know of a way to compress it?
HELP! QGIS is not letting me pull just the shp file in. It says invalid data source. I can pull the entire zip file in and get the counties map. I open attribute table and then the "toggle editing mode" is grayed out. I don't know what else to do to troubleshoot. Any suggestions?
A shapefile consists of (at least) three files. In your case streets.shp, streets.dbf and streets.shx. These files should al reside in the same folder. If one of them is missing, the error message "streets.shp is not a valid or recognized data source" will appear.

That's really helpful. I had to do something similar with UK counties. I wouldn't have known where to start without this

It looks like there is a 5MB limit... You would have to split it up in few layers

This Cartographic Boundary Files link was helpful, however the map seems 'squished' and doesn't look natural. Not your problem however!

shp file won't go through to QGIS, It just says "Invalid Data Source: cb_2020_us_county_500k.shp is not a valid or recognized data source"
Instead of saving the file as cb_2020_us_county_500k.shp, remove the .shp and save it as cb_2020_us_county_500k

You can't drag and drop the file as is but you can open it from within qgis
