Not to minimize your content, because it truly is awesome to see the care you put into these videos and I live for these Friday releases, but that opening shot in the first minute or so of Cannelle going down the steps is everything.

What a sad thing it is to see developers trash gorgeous old houses and build ugly little boxes. All the more important that you are saving yours! I also love the inspiration for how to re-use and save so much waste (and money)!
Also, can I just say how much I appreciate that you wear PPE like the ventilator when you’re working with any kind of particulate? (Like here with the baking soda). Agreed. I always cringe when people forgo it, especially when they present themselves as a kind of tutorial or "learn from my experience" type. This kind of self care and precaution needs to be normalized.
@@krose6451 I will say that I think it's getting much better already in the last 5-8 years. There is nothing "easy" about the packaging these days. Especially when they put a type of vacuum packaging around bottles or sauce bottles that you can't get scissors into, or when you do start pealing it off, it comes off in little pieces. Argh!
Just have to add a short comment that I love all of your content, your house renovations, thrifting and crafting. You're both an inspiration to all of us who love saving the old for restoration and us crafters.
Over 27 hours of work editing, most of us are just excited about the corgi content LOL. Loved the little patchwork bag, I think it’s inspired me for a new project!
I know that sometimes ads have to be done in a certain way, and maybe this isn't always possible, but the way that you blended in that Mrs. Quilty plug so it felt (pretty) natural and kept us engaged with the project while hitting all of the talking points? Beautiful. Seriously, not only did I not feel like skipping it but I was still super engaged in the video.
I am a chronic ad skipper and thinking the same thing--it didn't occur to me that it even WAS an ad to skip until about halfway through, so I actually wound up watching the whole thing 😅
A friend of mine is really into antics and she gave me a trick for smelly wood furniture: spraying a mix of vodka and water on the wood and when the alcohol evaporates, the smell too. If the baking soda wasn't enough, maybe it's worth trying.
@@ccoeurjoli A utiliser avec parcimonie afin de ne pas tremper et tacher le bois. Mais il semblerait que ca fonctionne à merveille pour les odeurs de renfermé / moisissure :)
The area of melting around the chimney may be from the thermal mass of the bricks, giving off residual heat absorbed from the sun. Even when chimneys are not in use, they tend to act as a heat island in a roof.
As always, enjoying your videos very much. Especially the variety of topics: a bit of sewing/kilting, a bit of thrifting, a bit of home improvement. Just fun. Please keep it up!
"Sad beige box" sums up a lot of modern construction! I think we all knew the "developer" destroyed the original house next door. We can call it modern destruction. The pieces you sawed off the board are the kind that my mother used to punch through in karate. (She got her black belt when she was 58). You're fast approaching 100K! YAY, you! Also, get verified when you do. ;-)
If you aren’t finding the vinegar and baking soda to be enough for cleaning and freshening, you may want to add borax to your arsenal, especially for mildew. My mother just doesn’t get the importance of humidity control and the walls of the bedrooms she didn’t use mildewed because she refused to use the air conditioning in a house that was built for ac. It wasn’t until I started using borax on the walls (in addition to running the ac) that I was able to get the mildew under control. We’ve moved in with her to take care of her and the house because she won’t leave the house for someplace more reasonable for her to live alone.
Aging in place is tricky... aging in general is tough, and I can see why she didn't want to leave, but also... managing a house is a lot to manage even at one's "prime," let alone as one gets older.
Cannell’s little four short legged hop down the stairs is adorable! She looks more like a cannelloni than a Cannell. She is small, sweet and has the color of the baked shell, and the sweet creamy filling! And her eyes and nose look a bit like chocolate chips! How far along in the process of fixing up the house do you need to be before you will feel comfortable enough with the house to give up your apartment? I imagine you will feel so liberated to get rid of the rental apartment, and the monthly rent payments. And even more free when you can rent out the other half of the house, and be receiving monthly rent payments! More power to you and Phil! I’m so happy for you finding and fixing up your new home!
That Robert Munsch book - he wrote the Paper Bag Princess! One of the coolest kids' books ever! (I dressed as the Paper Bag Princess for book week ten years ago)
I had a dresser from my mother in law. She used moth balls extensively. After soap water and bleach and sunlight for days, still smelly. Then I painted one, no improvement. What finally solved it was I sanded and put a light stain( not the solution, but made them look fabulous), then sprayed with shellac , the spray can version. It 100% solved holding in that smell. Just in case any musty or other smells come back. I truly appreciate being able to restore old wooden furniture, you simply cannot buy that quality at any price point. I didn’t see your video on radiators, but at least fifteen years ago friends removed them from an old home. They had no choice, they were adopting and social services would not permit them to stay. They could not find a buyer, which is so sad. And it took a whole,e team of volunteers to get them out. Trying to consider the shipping difficulties and cost is terrifying. We do what we can, and the second hand market is vastly different.
Ain't that the way of things, though: Need it to rain? Water your Garden. Need some box springs on a deadline? Go spend some money on lumber. 😂 Though in future if you need to fix up another bed frame for a guest room or partially furnishing the other side with all the extra stuff in the house when you go to rent or whatever, the full size all wood bed frame I have has two beams running head to tail down the middle and sets of slats on either side. Basically two separate twin-size slat zones, so you don't get the springy-sagginess of longer boards. With that reinforced design I don't use or need a box springs. If I remember from when I bought it years ago, I think the larger sizes also had two legs on those middle beams for more support on the extra width.
20 years ago when I moved here I estimated the previous owner left me at least $1000 worth of stuff that I would use. Years and years ago I also hung a mirror above a small washstand.
I'm so sad that these are technically not up-to-code any more, and therefore not permitted if we were to redo them (at least if we want to remain code compliant)... breaks my heart, cuz I use them ALL THE TIME
I had a dresser from a family member who smoked. Finally vanished the inside of drawers and it helped.. Try putting bars of soap or charcoal in drawers.
But that ending!!!! I thought oh he'll just wipe it off with his hand or arm. NOOOOO not your Phil! Too funny. I gotta say Shannon you are just amazing. Sticking with it no matter what. I would have quit long ago and found someone to do this for me, but also I'm not as fit as you are. I enjoy watching this old house get some love. Cant wait for next week!!!
I laughed so hard when you said it's not that easy to find good deals online there. I can imagine!! I'm in ON with a significantly larger population than NS and find it difficult to source things for my reno project. I'm at the bottom of what's considered northern ON and I have friends in southern ON that will send me links and say, it's such a good deal!! Maybe if I didn't have to drive 10-12 hrs round trip and gas wasn't a buck 70, it would be a good deal lol but thanks for thinking of me, gals!😂 Finding stuff local is a challenge!! The upside to finding that box frame, now you conveniently have some lovely 1x10s ready for another project...old houses tend to be short on storage options so perhaps you have a shelving unit in the making!
Getting some linseed oil soap (if you don't already have some) would be good, since it not only cleans but also conditions wood surfaces. Great for floors and furniture! It's usually also pretty economical.
It's a wonderful finish! I tried it on a kitchen worktop after reading one of Christopher Schwartz's blog posts on the subject. So much more satisfying than oil, and easier to keep up. And less messy to apply than any other finish. And a lovely sheen withal.
I just saw a video on this. Once you clean your dresser out well and try the baking soda,if the smell remains, you may have to shellac the inside of the drawers to block the smell out. Flippers do this if nothing else works. Love your videos.
Part of me would _love_ to have a house where there's always something new to discover. The bigger part would just be overwhelmed and do nothing. Can I just say how impressed I am that you keep tackling stuff. On the other hand, if there's anything in the house that's going to be haunted, it's going to be the mirror. I don't make the rule, they're just rules. OK, you've at least inspired me to watch the rest of the video from my sewing room where I'm tackling a dry robe for openwater swimming season.
Keep in mind that the new things you discover are usually things like chipped tiles, dry rotted boards and mice that have found a new crack to sneak in through the foundation. 😂 Maybe that's just my old house, but the last discovery that didn't make me groan was a yard stick from an old local hardware store that I believe closed down in the 30's.
Here to say, thank you for the inspiration. I have always loved old, crusty houses but the thought of buying one terrified me as I feared it would become just one giant money sink. Fast forward to today, my offer was just accepted on the gorgeous 1900 farmhouse of my dreams. Granted, it’s not nearly in the state yours is but it still needs some serious work. Watching your videos kind of gave me that extra confidence boost of “of yeah, we can handle this” that I needed to take the plunge.
Shannon and Phil, I agree with all the positive comments below, but I just wanted to chime in to tell you that I LOVE your channel with its diversity of content. Stay safe and wishing you both the best of everything. An old dog from Long Island, NY.
I don't comment often but I just wanted to tell you how relaxing and fun yet inspiring for my creativity your videos are! The corgi content is the cherry on top of the cake
MD here. I don't mean to pry in any way, but I'm a bit worried about your sinuses in your house with so much mildew and mold. Please consider taking any sinus issues you may develop seriously, and have one of your doctors check it out? Thank you! I love your content and your strength, as well as your creativity in all things!
White Vinegar removes odors too. You just place a cup of vinegar inside the furniture and leave for a day or two depending on the strength of the odor. Works well in closed spaces as well, ex.,,,closets, cars or rooms😊
Hi, I think the holes on the dresser are not for the mirror. It could've been a marble piece on top that may have broken? Or still in the house. If you can not find it or figure it out, maybe you can sand it if it's strong enough and paint over it covering the holes. Or you can buy a beautiful piece of marble or wood to put over it.
ok, so I'm on a quest to determine how/why TH-cam is showing my videos to the public before they premiere, which it's not supposed to do (to be clear, this is not your fault, and I'm not mad at you! I'm purely baffled) ... so can you tell me HOW you managed to view this?
@@ShannonMakes Last week, I followed the link from your post in the community tab. The video had 'unlisted' as a tag, and I thought you were just treating those of us who read the community posts to a little preview. :) Maybe that's the route? Also, Good teaser about a horrible situation for next week's video! Any landlord that doesn't take safety seriously (and this *very much includes pets' safety) is some flavor of slumlord. So glad that Cannelle has you two as her humans!
@dancing_fig thanks for the feedback! The preview was.... unintentional 🤣 and it seems like there's a bit of a glitch in TH-cam's system lately. Always gives me a minor panic attack when I see people commenting on a video that's not supposed to be viewable yet 🤣
Sunshine is a good first try for any smells. Some people use crumpled up newspaper in chests and other closed spaces along with baking soda works. Especially for old sewing machine cases.
I follow a fantastic professional furniture repairer/refinisher (a fellow Canadian) and she uses KrudKutter to clean furniture. Myself, I always used Murphy's. Actually, it just hit me that another terrific older gentleman who often works on beautiful antiques also uses KrudKutter. You might want to pick some up.
@Lucinda_Jackson, I came here to say the same when I saw Shannon working on that dresser top. I recently bought a vintage mahogany dining table with a top so messed up I thought I'd have to refinish. Then I remembered what Thomas Johnson (the gentleman you referred to?) always did, so bought some KrudKutter and Howard's FeedNWax and 0000 steel wool. It took six or seven scrubbings in KrudKutter to get all the old wax/cigarette smoke/yuck off the table top. I panicked a little at the bleached look of the wood but went to work with the FeedNWax and three applications/buffings with that brought it back to like new! I was too proud of myself!
As a fellow Pfaff lover and quilter, I loved your little patchwork boxed corner bag. Love the Corgi content and how your basement is drying out? Need an update on moldy, mildewed basement.
I couldn’t help but shout at my phone, “PIVOT!” when you were carrying the mattress upstairs 😂. Thank you so much for your videos. It is absolutely refreshing to see history being saved.
Also I can’t believe I never watched your crafty videos as I knit (I’m an intermediate beginner) and I also sew! I was neck deep in my jeans jacket for awhile so I stopped watching any crafty/sewing videos unless they were tips on areas I found problematic with my jean jacket. I’m now modifying that pattern for the jacket of the denim suit I’m designing and sewing. The pattern making/modifications is fun! I found a fun harlequin pattern (I love clowns and dress as one for Halloween or going to a themed club nite when I feel like it!) for my suit. I may finish my suit by fall! (Te jacket will be lined)
Well I certainly hope that you start making your way slowly through my archives, there are definitely some fun projects in there! I literally just finished making a pair of pants where one leg is one colored stripe, and the other leg is another colored stripe (speaking of harlequin)
Im not into the corgi content. I mean, i dont DISlike it but its not what im here for. But i had to rewind to check how they came down the stairs in the opening credits. Thats adorable!
A few ideas came to mind, regarding getting rid of the musty odor from the dresser drawers. 1) Sprinkle some Arm & Hammer scented baking soda that is used for kitty litter boxes; 2) Sprinkle Carpet Fresh inside; 3). Spray Pure Citrus Orange Air Freshener inside, and then sprinkle the baking soda throughout. Pure Citrus is orange oil in a can. It’s 100% natural and non-aerosol.
So happy to see you progressing and I love the history you bring it makes it so rich . I too am a marketplace hunter I call it Urban archeology digging out daily useful items . I am looking forward to your content especially your trips to Scandinavian countries. Keep well ! Look forward to next instalment whatever that may be!
If its a nice sunny day there is nothing wrong with giving wood furniture a good scrub down with mild soap and water, a bucket and a soft brush or rag. Rinse with the rag with clear water, and let dry. You will be AMAZED at the color of the water that comes off the furniture, and much musty smell is just the dust, dirt, nicotine, etc of the years. Ive been refinishing furniture for years and a good clean is always my first step! In the US, a product called Howards Furniture Restorer is very helpful for spiffing up many pieces. I dont know if you can get it across Canada, but I have seen it in Ontario. ❤
Oh My!! That avocado green stove is right out of the 70s!! I had more than one in my early adult life!!! Your ability to muscle through on your own is amazing! Of course the Cannell video is top notch and so cute! This is a great video!
I love old architecture and appliances. Most of today's stuff is just boring, and the houses are so eye-bleeding WHITE WHITE WHITE it's an eyesore. I want colour, damn it!
The dresser you found in your house is incredibly similar to an armoire my great aunt bought at an antique store in New Orleans in the 70’s. Best guess is late teens early 20’s. Mine is mahogany, and your wood grain looks similar. It is HEAVY. Glad you could save it.
Goodness. I had a moment of panic when I read the title of the video. For longer than a minute I thought some disaster had been discovered in the house that made it impossible to go on -- you know a complete collapse of the foundation or something -- and you had to abandon the project. Whew! Is it strange that I am so invested in your success with this? I am loving the combination of soft and hard crafts in your videos.
I bought a dining table and chairs set off Marketplace years ago and didn't realize it smelled like smoke until we got it home. The place we bought it from didn't smell like smoke, so no idea what happened. It sat in the sun with a bunch of baking soda for a couple days and the smell dissipated. It's amazing what sunlight and baking soda can do!
If Baking soda & sun doesn't get rid of the smell, buy a bag of charcoal [like for a grill] & put some of it in the furniture, it might work for you...❤❤❤❤❤ Love the patchwork bag, I need to sew one!!!
Wow, so many good things happening. Sorry about the landlord, it's a good thing you'll have this place more livable soon. Cheap and free are great prices and you've found some real treasures. Plus begun getting your place certified as an historic home. who knew that restoring an old home would lead to such great workouts! Bonus.
Fun episode! (Ok, they’re always fun…) Love Cannelle’s stair hop💕; even name brand baking soda boxes are impossible to break into without a knife 😡; I hope you’re enjoying EPP- it’s such a great portable craft 🧵🪡😻; and I’m glad you were able to put the mystery and sad history of the house next door to rest 😿
Musty and mildewy wood can be refreshed with a hot iron!! Use caution on precious pieces, obviously, but a hot iron will kill any mood of mildew spores and get rid of the smell. No need for steam, but wiping with white vinegar is a good idea, too, as it will help sanitize things. Make sure the wood gets pretty hot. Takes times, but does work! I've done it!
Oh, you can also get a spray that traps the smell, should ironing a dresser not be for you! 😂 I've seen furniture restorers use it when the wood smells like cigarettes, for instance, before finishing with stain or paint.
Looks like you have a a corgi wonderland in you backyard and Canelle is just loving it. She is so cute with her little corgi ways. The bouncing down the stairs 🥺😍❤ That dresser is a super amazing find. I hope tou got the musty smell out. So are you going to paint it or refinish it? I've heard you can put lavender satchels in your drawers to help with the mustiness. My great grandmother always had them in her drawers. Neiet of my grandmother's did it. My mom always used wall paper to line the drawers with. So sad that the developer tore down the Victorian mansion next door. That was another gem just waiting for someone to fall in love with it and save it. Sad story that it was replaced with a box. Good luck on your tour in Scandinavia. I hope to see some amazing places and of course people. Wiĺl you be taking Canelle with you this time? Anyway thanks for bringing us along on your adventure to save a Victorian beauty. I look forward to each episode.
Hello! Way back in the day, about 45 yrs ago, I could order cotton fabric pieces from a clothing maker in one of the Southern states. It was the excess pieces trimmed from the parts of shirts.
Wow so much happened in this video! I 100% agree that if Cannelle's health is in danger (was that a lead paint chip on her nose??) then it's definitely time to do something about that landlord!
I really appreciate seeing how physically strong you are, getting that bed frame off the car and up stairs all by your self was awesome. I love having role models like you to look up to
It's amazing to see the house that was where the sad box is. Sad that it was destroyed and now it makes your house ten times more valuable from a historical view. Also, Cannelle is a precious baby that must be protected at all costs. Sorry you all have to deal with a landlord like that.
So interesting to see the beautiful old house that once was! I only wish you could've saved that one too. What a cool look it had! I think that's called a "gambrel roof"--or similar. Cannelle is the cutest. As a short person, I relate to her "short legs solutions" LOL
Packing sacks are awesome! They help me stay organised too. Especially camping helps the junk to stay away. Hope the baking soda did the job with the mustiness in the chest of draws? It's a great idea. Hope your yard is staying dry? Will you be bringing us along during your summer trip? 😊
Sad that the old Vic next door was torn down. I hope more people take on the challenge (like you did) to save old homes, churches, warehouses. Once they’re gone, that’s it. Are you able to find/bring the market place (Montreal) stuff to NS? Might be worth it to rent a small truck. You can also sell what you don’t need. A great way to earn some money. Looking forward to the hand sewing / crafting projects. Love your little doggie ❤
It kills me. Where I live they are tearing old houses down all over the place and replacing with horrible brown skinny houses. No thought for aging in place, different income housing, etc. 🫤
@@wtogspedersen860 I know what you mean. It’s going to get worse now that the Liberals (Canada) are providing incentives to quickly add needed housing, a situation they caused.
I will say that these old houses are very much not suited for aging in place (as a generalization), and often require MUCH modification in order to do so, not to mention that older house require pretty much constant maintenance (well, ALL houses should, except that modern houses are built with the intention of *replacement* rather than *maintenance*) and that is also something that can be quite a burden, and something that quite often falls by the wayside as people age in these older houses -- that's literally why my house is falling apart right now, because it was too much of a handful for the older couple living in it. So totally all for saving these old houses, obviously, but if one has an eye towards aging in place, they can be quite a handful and require expensive modifications to do so.
All of the work you are doing to clean, prep and repair every little thing is a wonderful cross training method for your aerialist career. I bet it makes days at the gym seem so boring! ALWAYS love seeing Canelle being her cute self. Such a sweetie pie!
I always have to use a knife to open Baking Soda. My mattress is on top of plywood on my Captain's bed (it has drawers under it and a book case headboard). My bed doesn't make any sound when I turn over at night (because there are no boxed springs). Thank you for taking such good care of your little dog. .
That dresser/mirror combo you found in the house is so pretty! I know it was super gross but what a pay off! I can't wait to see how the bedroom turns out!
Really like the mirror discovered back in the corner, it will look good above the dresser. Market Place in my area of Florida is slim pickings as well, have to be quick; many items are out of our town to neighboring places. I've heard suggestions on other sites that say charcoal absorbs odors.
OMG! Some of the photos in that album look like photo's that I have! You can buy some scented drawer liner paper to put in your dresser drawers and that might help.
You’re such a hard working woman , omg , how did you get that dresser outside by yourself is amazing. Let alone the box spring, you’re so strong. I enjoy all your videos and of course, Canelle. I had to laugh when you said ( ben wayon) your French came out as I say that all the time when having trouble with something.
9:17 omg I love these too! Recently one of them solved the problem of storing a specific piece of kit which only had a cardboard box in which it was shipped to me!! Honestly such an odd thing to love when you find it but I get it!!
Shannon, I honestly can't recall if I've ever commented before, but let me say for the record that you are so FUN to watch! I enjoy your energy and creativity. Thank you!
I was totally expecting you to screw the ends of the boards to the base you were making like a T to support the center. Glad that didn’t need to happen, and I admire you just hauling that box spring upstairs, but clearly you have good upper body strength!
One of your followers mentioned shellac on the inside of the drawers...this works great!! We had an antique dresser which we inherited and for years I tried all kinds of things to get rid of the smell of mothballs...shellac took away the smell permanently!!❤
Lots of stuff! IF you find that the furniture still smells consider replacing the particle board in the back, sometimes it just absorbs smells that are hard to get out. There are also some products you can buy that act as a primer and lock in the odour. Which is helpful if you plan to paint.
If you can’t get all the musty smell out of the drawers, just clear coat them with shellac. It seals any doors or stains in. I restore furniture and have to do this frequently. :)
Strong like bull! I am thrilled to hear that you enjoyed the Rose Code! The slang adds a nice touch too it. Altoid containers were my go to for my stage management kit, I had several and all labelled with spike tape. In setting up my sewing space this year and using it, I am very excited to discover the jars and containers that I can repurpose for storage and organizing.
This was a really cute video! I hope the chests clean up well enough that you don’t have to paint them. I know sometimes it can’t be avoided, but I love natural wood so much better. When you finally fell back on your new bed and saw the flaw, (and a brand new project) in the ceiling, I truly laughed out loud.🤗🐝❤️
Looking forward to next week’s landlord butt kicking! Lovely video as ever Shannon! I do so enjoy having your channel playing while I’m doing chores, it makes me feel so much more motivated because who could slack off while you’re so relentlessly working!! Have a great week ❤
Thank you for another wonderful video. Enjoy all the different projects you do in each. I am also learning a lot about cleaning up old furniture, thank you. As for your bed, I slept on a bed for years that had no box springs, I used plywood with 2x4's spaced out and attached to the plywood and then the mattress. I loved it personally. But glad you were able to find a box springs, you desire a nice bed after all the work you do. Can't wait until next time. Have a wonderful week!!! Oh yea, loved the bag you made, the material was beautiful.
Incredible how you muster such energy for all your projects, not matter if’s work, sewing or renovation. Most of all, you entertain, and I am grateful for all the time you spend creating your content so all of us can enjoy, be inspired, and learn new skills. I started to watch you videos here on YT, just before you bought the house in Nova Scotia, and I have been so entertained all the way. I then went back to some of your older videos, because I has a lot of questions. Why where you living here in Denmark? What is your occupation? And I got all the answers, from the videos 🙂. I am sorry that I missed seeing you perform in Wallmans Circus Building, that could have been fun. I will leave some comments to some of your older videos and don’t worry, I will not ask any questions, since it must be a bit cumbersome to “god back in time”😅. I would like to “buy you a cup of coffee” ☕ from time to time, but I have not figured out how this is working, but I promise I will.
Not to minimize your content, because it truly is awesome to see the care you put into these videos and I live for these Friday releases, but that opening shot in the first minute or so of Cannelle going down the steps is everything.
I agree, so cute. My old cat does the same little rabbit-like bounce down the stairs Cracks me up. LOL

Good morning Canelle . And Shannon!
I thought so too!
It was so freaking adorable. The bounce. ❤️

I am a chronic ad skipper and thinking the same thing--it didn't occur to me that it even WAS an ad to skip until about halfway through, so I actually wound up watching the whole thing 😅
agreed
A friend of mine is really into antics and she gave me a trick for smelly wood furniture: spraying a mix of vodka and water on the wood and when the alcohol evaporates, the smell too. If the baking soda wasn't enough, maybe it's worth trying.
Vodka is a miracle worker for smells, have never tried to use on hard goods... will keep in mind!
She's going to get a reputation before even taking a sip. Unless she doesn't drink then a reputation without even taking a sip.

Thank you!!
YES! Moi aussi!
I totally agree!
Entièrement d’accord 👍🏻
"Sad beige box" sums up a lot of modern construction! I think we all knew the "developer" destroyed the original house next door. We can call it modern destruction.
The pieces you sawed off the board are the kind that my mother used to punch through in karate. (She got her black belt when she was 58). You're fast approaching 100K! YAY, you! Also, get verified when you do. ;-)
You should do blue siding to pay homage to the other house! Such a beautiful house. So sad she's gone
We do, in fact, call her Cannelloni sometimes 🤣
That Robert Munsch book - he wrote the Paper Bag Princess! One of the coolest kids' books ever! (I dressed as the Paper Bag Princess for book week ten years ago)
very fun!!
Oh, Paperbag Princess is a wonderful book!
I had completely forgotten about that book! Don't care that I'm nearly 40, I need to read it again lmao.
I think I may have read that as a child. It's ringing some distant bells. I clearly need to go find it and read it.
Yea, that is going to be the upgrade I add if I find myself in a similar situation again!
Sounds like you need a buying trip or shoppers to help you source things from other markets, which would literally be my dream job
I appreciate the crazed visionary look you had before tackling the box spring relocation. I look forward to Canelle's Montréal adventures.
LOLLLL thank you!
20 years ago when I moved here I estimated the previous owner left me at least $1000 worth of stuff that I would use. Years and years ago I also hung a mirror above a small washstand.
I love the porch rail benches! They'll be awesome whenever they get cleaned up & refinished.
Dude I feel like I'm always fighting with those baking soda boxes. Highlights so far: Cannelle hopping down the stairs! Omg! Community scraps in use!
Definitely!!
A knife! I’m always looking for my Swiss Army knife these days but usually when I’m in the throes of working on my apt it’s in my pocket!
Maybe if I didn't have to drive 10-12 hrs round trip and gas wasn't a buck 70, it would be a good deal lol but thanks for thinking of me, gals!😂
Finding stuff local is a challenge!!
The upside to finding that box frame, now you conveniently have some lovely 1x10s ready for another project...old houses tend to be short on storage options so perhaps you have a shelving unit in the making!
LOL yea, gas is a whole 'nother factor!!
Yup. I moved to southern Ontario from Nova Scotia and am amazed at what is available here.
😂 Maybe that's just my old house, but the last discovery that didn't make me groan was a yard stick from an old local hardware store that I believe closed down in the 30's.
oh my god the bouncing down the stairs is adorable
corgis + stairs = perfection!
CONGRATULATIONS!! 🥳🥳🥳
Congratulations 🎉
Just remember that you can't do it all in a day, no matter how much you may want to 😉
Whoo hoo! Congratulations and good luck!

Marketplace is great, but I do miss the algorithm-less Craig’s List search and sorting.
Lots of fun keeping up with you and Phil! Liking your book choices as well😊
Yay, thank you!
White Vinegar removes odors too. You just place a cup of vinegar inside the furniture and leave for a day or two depending on the strength of the odor. Works well in closed spaces as well, ex.,,,closets, cars or rooms😊
hmmm, interesting! I don't love the smell of vinegar tho, so if baking soda does the job, I prefer that :-D
Wow What a great idea, works so well in the laundry, just never thought to try it on furniture. Thanks!
it only smells of vinegar as long as the container with vinegar is in there 😊
White vinegar Doesn’t leave a lingering smell for long.
That's not true I wish it was but that's not true we've tried it over and over again on something and it's never worked
Would LOVE to replace it with marble, that'd be stunning (I do love a good marble top)!!
I had to laugh as you apologized to all of your furniture for being in the way at 14:25 - peak Canadian! We've all done it ❤
Shannon, you are such a beast for hauling that boxspring around on your own! 💙🛏️
ok, so I'm on a quest to determine how/why TH-cam is showing my videos to the public before they premiere, which it's not supposed to do (to be clear, this is not your fault, and I'm not mad at you! I'm purely baffled)
... so can you tell me HOW you managed to view this?
I am soooo sad about the house next door!
How could anyone imagine that house with zero character was an improvement?🙁❤️🐝
I love using those bags for crafting supplies and equipment. I find them at the thrift store. Also larger bags for materials. Project bags rule!
I couldn’t help but shout at my phone, “PIVOT!” when you were carrying the mattress upstairs 😂. Thank you so much for your videos. It is absolutely refreshing to see history being saved.
🤣🤣🛋️😂😂
Oh my goodness, so many treasures in this video!
You scared me! I thought something had happened. Right I shall go back to the beginning and watch again. 😂
The dresser you found in your house is incredibly similar to an armoire my great aunt bought at an antique store in New Orleans in the 70’s. Best guess is late teens early 20’s. Mine is mahogany, and your wood grain looks similar. It is HEAVY. Glad you could save it.
My wood grain is painted on, LOL. Vive le faux tiger oak 🤣🤣 Probably still really old though!
Imagining your upcoming epic yard sale videos. 😂 How fun to have all the treasures to sort through. Restoration projects for years.
😂😂😂no joke tho!
Love that!!!
Mansard roof ;-)
@@ShannonMakes Thank you! I hate it when I can't pull a word lol. I always say that the research assistant in my brain must be sleeping on the job.
Right? There's no bringing these lovely old homes back 😢
It kills me.
Such a sweetie pie!
the sweetest of pies! 🥧
I always have to use a knife to open Baking Soda. My mattress is on top of plywood on my Captain's bed (it has drawers under it and a book case headboard). My bed doesn't make any sound when I turn over at night (because there are no boxed springs). Thank you for taking such good care of your little dog. .
NS and NB it's all about Big Garbage Day! (Usually one in spring and one in fall, varies by town)
The lamp on a handle at 15.57min looks like something my Mother had, it held an infa-red light bulb and was used to warm sore muscles.
Since you have a saw, try making a 2x4 frame with legs and middle supports for your bed. Easy to do, and super solid.
I love watching you , you can basically do everything. and your sweet Cannelle is adorable. He seems so lovable. Nice to see Phil as well.
Thank you so much!
Oh my I adore those dolls!!!!
@patriciaschiro2 I recognized the way they are dressed right away: Marken, the Netherlands.
You can have them, they creep me out!!
@@ShannonMakes I would love to have them. I have a collection of odd dolls!!!
I’ve slept on a lot of beds sans box springs. It’s been my experience that unless it’s a twin, there is a central support bar running head to foot.
not on this one 😭😭
The lumber could make good shelving
If you can get it there, try some Big Mama's Butter from Dixie Bell Paints. It neutralizes orders and conditions the wood in older furniture.
Oh I love the dolls. Little Dutch boy and girl ? Wish I was in your neighborhood. 😊
I have used scented soap in my dresser drawers and makes my clothes smell great.
Thank you!
Thank you!!
That is awesome!
At least SOMEBODY was laughing over it 🤣🤣🤣
@@ShannonMakes lol I feel ya sweety, I’ve lived in old houses too❤️🐝🤗

The quilt fabric subscription looks awesome. Sadly it's US only. But I'll be looking out for a similar service in europe 👀
That little book (The Dark) just brought back childhood memories I ha completely forgotten about. I definitely had that when I was very little.
