Hey Dan, 8mm is an awesome rifle!!! Germany sued the USA back in the the day cuz the USA copied the bolt design from the 8mm
And basically that's how the Remington 700 was born. More or less. Also, the 270 and the 8mm have about the same recoil.

I've bought ammo at Farm and Fleet, Fleet Farm, Cabelas, and WalMart. Never had any problems finding ammo for my .270 or my 12 gauge. I only buy a box or two and it last me a long time. One to two shots a year at a deer and four or five shots at the rifle range to make sure it's shooting correctly. Clean the gun before going to the rifle range. Usually there's one shot that can be a little off if you used some oil in the barrel, but the first shot gets ride of that, or so I was told by the guy working at the rifle range. It appears to be true with my gun. So I clean mine at the end of the year and then site it in a week or two before deer season.

You're lucky. Shotgun ammo is probably the only ammo I've seen on the shelves for close to 2 years

That is an awesome looking 8mm there. I had a Marlin 30-30 that was all scratched up from going through the thick brush and woods. I thought about sanding all the scratches out and refinishing it but decided that I liked the rustic well worn look better, Besides I would have to sand it down again and again and again every time I scratched it. To much work...lol Just wondering if you could make a video on what made you decide to get into hunting at a later stage of life compared to not hunting at an early age? It would be interesting to see why you decided to take up hunting. Nice to hear also that your wife wants to get into hunting more.
I hear ammunition is hard to buy anywhere around the country. Not only in the US but also here in Canada and when you do find some the price has almost quadrupled what it was before a few years ago.
Oh yeah one other thing, any idea when you might put together a video on the cost of building your pond? Said you might do that someday. Would be good info for anyone else thinking about doing that.
Take care and stay safe out there.

Lucky gun. And a great father in law.
I just bought the exact gun. Shooting 198gr for reloading purposes but 170s are really accurate outta this rifle.
I'm actually sanding down the front stock to fit my hands butter.
