  • So friends in this tutorial we will be learning about how to generate Rotary relief toolpath for machining rotary model with lathe along x axis with 3 axis CNC using
ArtCAM # I am Considering Lathe mounted Along X Axis Accordingly
    1) Open ArtCAM select New Project Assembly Right click and Import model and select the model that you want to do rotary machining
    2) Use Transform relative to world centre and set the X axis as Length and Note all X,Y,Z sizes as per available Raw material (Rectangular / Cylindrical object)
    3) Use Nudge and steps In transform for selecting origin on rotary 3D model Cylinder along x axis as mid point of raw material
    4) Right click on Model name of project menu and Choose Create Rotary Relief
    5) In Rotary Orientation Choose X axis for Unwrapping and ok
    6) Since Lathe is along x axis
    7) Now in toolpath ,Machine Relief and Give Toolpath as Per in same way by Considering Machining on Plane (Unwrapped) surface.Use Raster Finishing only
    8) Normally No need to Define Material if you want can give In Material Setup as Max. of (Noted Y,Z) Sizes
    9) In Safe Z use Distance of (Tool Length + Half of the Diameter of Lathe+ 25) If you are Using NC Studio Then this Value of Safe Z you have to Enter in Offset settings
    10) Save ToolPath As Neo Group 3 Axis X axis (.mmg)or Quantum Rotary (.tap)
    .
    11) Operate it with Body Centered as Origin If system shows Exceed Z limit then in Safe Z (subtract - radius Distance) in Offset setting Also Update the same Value in NC Studio offset Z
    12) If Your Lathe is Along Y axis Then You need To Replace Values And Axis Position According to it

Hello sir and thank you very much for your nice video
I designed and exported a table leg with a tenon connection in Sketchup software, now I'm going to build an rotary toolpath in Artcam , because my goal is just machining the tenon part of leg, not the other parts, which do you think is the best for rotary machining option?

You need to creat a cylinder with radius of toolpath created.

Will this toolpath cut all waste material which holds the object? So the object would fell down in the end of toolpath? Or is it posible to add safety cilinder of material in the bottom of this model?

Yes we can add Cylinderical support
I suggest use Vectric Aspire Software for Rotary machining

Hello Sir, I don't know how to align my model on the y axis;I am trying to creat a bannister which has the X wrapped around Y but it seems that I can't align it right because after i click create rotary relief and having a look at it in the unwrapped mode it looks awful; can't even realise what I'm looking at; any help would be appreciated, thank you

try in the nudge window, at the bottom with those curved arrows around x y z.
set the degrees you want and try your luck
      it worked for me
