I miss Calabash. My aunt used to live there and was married to a man named Clark Callahan who was a great artist and owned Callahans of Calabash. Great food! So much to choose from. I enjoy your uploads. Thanks for sharing them with us. Enjoy your travels and stay safe and healthy. 🦀🌊🐟⚓️🌅⛵️🐚🦞🦐
Wow, that's a really neat story! Thank you for sharing how your aunt was married to Mr. Callahan himself. I absolutely love going in that store. They have just about everything!
I love Callahan’s. On our annual trip to Oak Island we have to go to Calahan’s. For the past 2 years I buy my little dog a ball that lights up. Oh how she loves those balls.
Have you ever visited the fields of the wood in Cherokee, North Carolina? It’s the 10 Commandments that are down in the grass on the mountain side, beautiful.
@@lindawiley878 That is actually down in Murphy, about 56 miles from Cherokee. No, we have not been there yet, but hopefully sometime in the future. I've seen pictures, and it does look very nice.
Oh my goodness that food looked so delicious, i love seafood and i love Calabash and Sunset beach, hope i can visit this summer. Yall go to some really good restaurants., thanks for showing us this place and great video , God Bless
Yes, that shirt made her look so bright, I couldn't hardly look at her. It was like staring into the sun. But yeah, she's pretty proud of her Calabash shirt.
We haven't eaten there since 2009. As a kid I used to love white trout as it was called back then. I remember pulling out the backbone out of it all in one piece . Not sure if restaurants still serve it now? May have changed the name to whiting? Yalls food looked great by the way.
About the only place I know of now where you can pull out the backbone, is at Hoskin's Restaurant in N. Myrtle. You have to order the WHOLE flounder in order to do it.
we have never eaten here, for sure will have to try it, looks awesome. large portions for the $$$$, isn't crazy what places charge now for drinks? same here at home. just crazy. we do get shrimp from them to cook while there. such amazing views. thanks for review as always good info. keep up the great reviews, good or bad. BTW, if you have never tried it, boundary house is awesome, for a special night for dinner. we did our renewing of vows for dinner there back in 2020, and they served us so well
Yes, and about the drinks, I noticed after we did the video, that the menu price of drinks is not what we were charged. One of my pet peeves, is a restaurant going up on price and charging the new price for the old price is still on the menu. If I had noticed that then, I would have mentioned it. But yes, the food there is really good. And we have two videos from the Boundary House. That would certainly be a great place to do a dinner for the renewal of your vows. Very nice restaurant.
You guys are great. We watch all of your videos. However it seems when you come to Calabash you are overlooking the best place in Calabash Oyster Rock. We live in the area and i've lived in Hickory , Charlotte Lake Norman and Oyster Rock is the best restaurant I have visited. Please give them a shot at some point.Thank you
We have actually talked about going there. We're not overlooking it. We have priced their menu, and they are through the roof expensive. We would love to go for lunch, but they're only open for supper. In fact, we had actually thrown around the idea of going for lunch this past weekend when we were there, and that's when we discovered they weren't open for lunch. And we were kind of hungry at that point, and wanting seafood. We probably will go at some point, however. It is something we've talked about. Thank you for watching, and we are glad you enjoy the channel. We appreciate it.
@@griffinjackson7334 I'm sure we will get around to it. We have mentioned it several times. Just didn't want you to think that we weren't aware of it. Like I said, we actually were going to go for lunch this past trip, only to find out they are not open till that evening. It does look very nice, from the pictures we've seen.
We haven’t eaten there in several years. I am so glad y’all enjoyed it. Since Ella’s burned we are going to eat a Becks when we go down next month. How did yall like the potato salad?
Yes! I meant to get back to you on that. So, I hope we got the same thing that you were talking about. It's called baked potato salad. We got a plastic container of it, and had it Wednesday evening for supper, along with some ribeye steaks we had purchased at Publix on our way out. It was very different than regular potato salad, but very good. It seemed like it had a lot of different seasonings or herbs in it. We really liked it, and would definitely get it again. Thank you for recommending it. It doesn't look to us like Ella's is going to be rebuilding. Even the sign they had up saying they were, is now gone. We can't tell that anything has been done with the building.
@@NCMemoryMakers glad y’all liked the baked potato salad. It is our favorite one to buy. We also enjoy the traditional one we make at home. So sad about Ella’s. I am sure if they don’t rebuild someone else will if they sell the property.
@monicamoore111 Yes, we are sad about it. I have not officially heard they're not going to, but I just know that nothing has been done in the 2 years since it's burned. We had an annual tradition of going there, for about the last 7 or 8 years.
We have eaten at Capt. Nance several times. Do y'all remember a buffet in Cherry Grove called The Captain's Plank? When my in-laws lived in Holden Beach we would go there every time we visited. I could sit there and eat until I slap near passed out.
Nothing has been done with Ella's. The building is still standing, but still burned. The sign that says they are going to rebuild, is now gone. I don't think it looks like they're going to.

I’m sorry but I have a hard time believing that some random place in North Carolina that I’ve never heard of is “The seafood capital of the world.” Maybe it is but hard to believe. I’ve fished off the coast of Somalia 🇸🇴 and let me tell you that is some good fishing!
Go ahead and Google "What is the seafood capital of the world?", and tell me what comes up. That's not something that I made up or put in the title as clickbait. We did not give the town that name. That is what the town is called. I wouldn't have put it in there otherwise. And it's not just a "random place in North Carolina". It is a coastal town that is known for its excellent fishing and style of frying seafood. And also, the vast number of seafood restaurants to be condensed into such a small area. That's not saying there are not other good places in the world for fishing. That's just telling you what the nickname of this town is, and has been.
