    Nice one Cole! I did this to mine after the GPS fell off the windscreen one night and turned on the headlights!

    It's good you mentioned the extra cables at the end. The problem with so many cutoff switches is that you lose all the radio stations and clock settings every time, which is a complete pain. Your system (and the system I have on my Mini) allows for this, with a jumper lead to the radio that remains permanently on, even when the battery is turned off.

      ric zito that’s a fancy mini you’ve got there with a clock and a radio 😀

    If your going to put in the boot, I’d just use a screw on battery connector which makes it impossible to start unless you have the screw. Far cheaper and simply requires one bolt to be fastened

      Both are great options. I had the screw on. Lead for a while and it work well. I like the look of the switch better and it was only about $5 more expensive.

    So you have 2 wires coming from the switch.i see one going to the negative of the battery.where is the other wire from the switch leading to?

    Can I connect my positive and negative terminals from trolling motor to the battery terminals that are running to this so it kills the power ?

    What size drill bit to fit the bolts to the body?

    You should get a multimeter and see if your body is still grounded with that switch off.
    If your amp, fuel pump, radio or whatever else you have running direct off the battery terminal is grounded to the shell/subframe you will quickly destroy those electrics if you forget to turn that switch on before trying to start.

    Hey I have something to ask.. my mini's battery dies if I dont drive my car for about 3days.. but If i run it daily, it wont happen.. what could be the reason for this?? If there is a short circuit, how can I find it?? Will fixing a switch like this solve the problem? And one thing, any reasons why we fix this switch to negative terminal ?

      Mr. Gadget Motor Co I’d think it’s either a dying battery or a circuit is using power with the ignition off. You can test it by taking off the negative battery lead next time you park it and see if that helps. You can also take the battery to a battery shop and they can test the condition of it.
      Isolators are nearly always fitted to the earth/negative terminal - one reason being that if something metal touched the earth strap or terminal nothing bad will happen

      by my car it was the same. The switch has solved this problem.

      Do a Parasitic Battery Drain Test

      The factory fitted alarm system will drain the battery if you still have that fitted.

    Whenever I park my Alfa in a bad part of town I remove the fuse for the ignition circuit, just in case.

      @classicminidiy  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh that’s clever. Are your fuses in the cabin or engine bay?

  • @hgte36
    @hgte36 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    why would you mount it on the floor where its going to get broken every time you put something heavy in the trunk

    • @classicminidiy
      @classicminidiy  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Why would something heavy break it? The boot board sits on top of brackets that lift it above the switch.

    can this be use for motorcycle?

    • @classicminidiy
      @classicminidiy  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah should be usable on any standard amperage 12v application.

  • @sailorbrand4957
    @sailorbrand4957 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Nice. I did the same before. But i think you made a mistake. To switch off the switch, you have to open the floor of the trunk. Thats annoying. A better place ist the sidewall of the trunk furniture.
