    Back in my days as a barista we would purge the steam wand before wiping it. The hot water from the steam helped to clean the wand. That’s just my two cents and that was years ago.

    I just got mine for Christmas. Pick up a naked basket. Though, I have been at 16 grams, runs a little fast. I will try dosing 17 then 18 grams, to see how it tastes. Found fresh roasted coffee works best. Using the WDT tool and tamper but I do not have the other one you used. I like how you did your frothing, I will give that a try. I have been angling it a lot to create the vortex. Great video thanks!

    I have a very similar setup. I bought a new bottomless Portafilter. I use the Barazta sette 30 Grinder. Had to play around with the grind setting. Tried 11 at first, and nothing came out of the machine. Then tried 13 and same thing. I finally landed on 15.5 or so and that seemed to work. Still going to mess around with my dosage. Tried 18g and I think I may need to lower to 15-16g.

    I just bought the same machine! I'm pretty happy with it too. I used to work at a coffee / bubbly tea shop a while back and missed the feeling (but didn't want to spend $200-$700 on a home-esp-machine when I don't drink coffee everyday). Did the rubber spout ever pop off for you though? I read about it popping off for some people while they were steaming milk... and some are recommending to keep it attached with a cable tie --which I did too... Works wonders even though I wish the spout were longer! I even saw a vid of a dude modifying a different model Delonghi wand and switching it out with a Rancilio wand. Stuff was legit! Not sure if Delonghi caught up to that and made changes to their models so no one can modify it though, HA! Anyway, GREAT vid!

    Hey! So I just recently purchased the stilosa and love it! I was looking to up my game and got the bottomless portafilter, 51mm. As I read in some comments, people noticed some leaking and spraying if portafilter isnt pulled farther than the original portafilter does, and I had similar issues. I got it to work for the most part when I put this portafilter to around a 4 oclock position as opposed to 6 oclock where it’s supposed to be. However, my shots are not pulling well, they are dark but have so much less creaminess than the original filter has! I was hoping you had some knowledge on this issue? Any advice is amazing!!! Thanks!

    • @X3RUBIM

      When judging this, you need to keep in mind, that the original basket that comes with the machine is pressurized and creates a fake crema. So a non pressurized basket producing less is not necessarily a bad sign.

    I have the 3420, my advice to avoid channeling is to not use the distribution tool. After the WDT step, give it a tap on the table and then directly tamp. A 51mm 1.0m puck screen with a spray using an RDT spray will help with water flow distribution, and of course if you don't have one already, an IMS 51mm 26mm length (16/17g dosage) or 32mm length (19/20g dosage) precision basket is really important depending on your bean profile and grinder capabilities. There is also a stainless steel steam wand attachment you can get for the 3420/stilosa that replaces the rubber wand/zip tie method, without the need to manually upgrade to the rancilio steam wand mod that a lot of modders try. Those changes overall will give you very consistent espresso shot pulls and a much sturdier approach to making home latte art drinks!

    • @Ashhong1
      @Ashhong1 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the tips! Why does the distribution tool hurt it?

    • @slicedbanana23
      @slicedbanana23 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@Ashhong1no worries! the distribution only levels the top layer, which compacts the puck unevenly and can lead to channeling ehen the water hits the top layer. It used to be a widely used tool before WDT came about, and those that have tried both, including myself have found the distribution tool to either be of no benefit or to cause slightly inconsistent shot pulling. So the standard puck prep has now suggested just to fluff up the grounds and direct tamp

    I'm thinking about picking up a DeLonghi Stilosa myself since my budget is pretty low. I will be using Lavazza pre-ground to make my espresso shots. What's the purpose of getting the bottomless portafilter rather than just using the portafilter that comes with the machine? Also, what is the purpose of the distribution tool?

    • @iambreeeezy
      @iambreeeezy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The portafilter that comes with the machine is a pressurized portafilter. This means that your grind quality won’t really matter, and will pretty much make something similar to ‘crema,’ but not quite. The bottomless portafilter isn’t necessary, but it is a regular, unpressurized portafilter, meaning your grind quality will most definitely matter. The bottomless just allows you to see what’s going on during extraction. You can always depressurize the original portafilter, but then you wouldn’t want to use preground.

    • @Cookerr64
      @Cookerr64 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Not to seem too critical, but a blade grinder is the worst thing you can use for coffee. I started my journey about two years ago, went from a blade grinder to a cheap Costco burr grinder, then switched to the one in this video (Breville Smart Grinder Pro), the difference in each step I took was HUGE. If you want to do espresso, a burr grinder is of the utmost importance, and one that can go fine and consistent (from what I’ve looked at, this grinder is one of the best you’ll get at its price point).

    • @nickzhi2710
      @nickzhi2710 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Cookerr64 not too critical at all! I am definitely getting the same vibe everywhere - youtube, reddit, random googled pages - people been telling me not to use blade grinders for espresso (or any coffee at all). I will absolutely upgrade when the budget becomes available. Only opposite opinion was from this owner of a budget coffee stand. He uses a 300$ grinder for his coffee shop and says 50$ grinder should be enough for home use. He still suggests burr grinder though.

    Thanks for this video! A budget oriented setup in which every penny is well spend! I read a lot about the naked portafilter damaging the delonghi and causing leaks, so I wonder, how it it holding up after a year? Still doing fine? Furthermore, I wonder if you use the basket that came with the portafilter? Because my 51mm tamper unfortunately does not fit the basket that came with the portafilter.

    • @iambreeeezy
      @iambreeeezy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello! Thanks for the comment. This current setup is still going strong! I’ve been a little busy with school and work for the past year, so I haven’t gotten around to replying much. Anyways, I bought a different 51mm portafilter basket, which worked well with the aftermarket one you saw in the video. Works well with 51mm tampers. Amazon listings are always hit-or-miss, as some will remove/repost the listing, which make it hard to link specific things. If you’re interested in saving a ton of money for a decent setup like this, it’ll take some fidgeting and tinkering before you figure out what works. It’s been a headache here and there, but it’s been fun!

      @@iambreeeezy Thank you so much for your reply! Well, in between all the tinkering, your video definitely helped a long way as a good reference :)! Thanks for that. I asked about the filter because I have the same setup, also the Stilosa with a SGP and a naked portafilter, but shots pull so quickly (even on low grind settings) with the 15bar espresso machine that I cannot get above the 20 seconds for a shot. Out of curiosity, did you manage?

    • @iambreeeezy
      @iambreeeezy  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MartijnK1 Yes! My machine still manages to extract 32-36 grams of espresso within 28-30 seconds. I put in around 18 grams of coffee into the portafilter. I have the setting anywhere between 16-10, anything finer tends to choke my machine. How fresh would you say your beans are?

      @@leanderson4250 nothing special other than making sure you have a good shot/troubleshooting before putting on a regular portafilter and going. This one in particular is 51mm as stated, so make sure you get one that has the same amount of ears and is just as wide as your original portafilter.

    Hello. Does your basket disassembles from your portafilter and get stuck in the machine? Because i got the same basket an in pare with the stock delonghi portafiter it get stuck as it also doesn't lock in the portafilter. I ordered the same bottomless portafileter from aliexpress and im waiting for it to get delivered hoping that i wont get the same result with it

      Hello! I would wait to use your aftermarket basket with the new portafilter. I had the same issues trying to use the basket on the original portafilter. You can also play around with the spring to make the basket a little tighter, but I wouldn’t recommend that haha.

    I have the same machine, using the stock portafilter I get great results but I was curious to see the hype of the bottomless portafilter. Just got it and now my extractions are super watery. Not sure whats happening so im thinking of getting a HUGH by IMS basket. Anyone else that can help

    • @iambreeeezy
      @iambreeeezy  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Try a finer grind setting! Watery extract can usually mean the coffee grounds aren’t fine enough to slow the flow of the water. I suggest a better coffee grinder if you don’t have one yet! It should be okay, even if you modify the original portafilter, you should still be able to get the same results, as long as the coffee is ground fine enough.

      Thank you for your response! I unfortunately do not have a coffee grinder and probably won't buy one for another month or two. I use Lavazza Roma Espresso Grind packs 😅. I'm thinking of buying a better basket right now as I've seen a people use the HUGH by IMS basket with better success. What are your thoughts on this?

    Great video! So I'm wondering, what's the point of the metal wand for the frother if it can't easily make nice textured milk? I figured I should take it off but felt like it was incorrect. any thoughts on this?

    • @iambreeeezy
      @iambreeeezy  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you so much! I’ve been busy with school so I haven’t had the time to record or reply. The metal wand automatically whips air into your milk, so when it gets hot enough to pour, you end up with a ton of foam. If you want more control over how much foam you want, I suggest removing it! Some people also have a problem with the rubber tip popping off when steaming. Just use a clean zip tie where the rubber nozzle connects to the steamer!

    • @FoxoticTV
      @FoxoticTV 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @HomeBaristAnt What do you mean by automatically? still confused because I'm not sure it's me but I can't make nice foam with the metal on. the bubbles are always way too frothy and large but i don't have a problem when i take it off. why would someone want this

    • @grandadbeef1368
      @grandadbeef1368 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@FoxoticTV the assumption is that when people buy a machine at this price point, they don't wish to spend their time learning how to steam their milk properly. So they add the metal guard which leaves loads of room between the milk and where the steam exits the rubber tip to inject air into the milk. As you said, you end up with wayyy more bubbles and too much froth. Reality, you want as little gap as possible so you can control how much air you add etc. For most people buying this machine, they see the bubbles and the foam and they're happy, whereas we see it and want it done properly, hence why we take off the metal bit:)
