I love hearing old veterans talk about their war stories the good and the bad, their voices are always soothing. That's why even when my grandpa will tell me the same story over and over again because he forgot that he's told it, I don't care. It's still worth hearing every time.

Every man has his tale. Listening to old people's stories of how they lived their lives is better than any adventure book you can find.

+ethan hall Same here, I know what you’re talking about.
This coming summer, it will be 4 years since my grandpa died; he was 95 (he died of natural death). He volunteered in WW2 and was part of the (USAAC) United Stats Army Air Corps and I only heard a few stories about it. He did talk about growing up during the Great Depression a few times. His dad lost his job (and I think his house too). My grandpa said that was the only time he ever saw his dad cry, he thought he’d failed the family. But of course we know that wasn’t the reason. So many people last their jobs and houses during thattime.
He built a house himself in the 50’s and lived in it til the last few years of his life. My grandpa was just a nice guy; whenever we saw him he would ask what’s new with us. Up until the day he died, he’d remember things that we told him before. Like if we started a new job or college. He’d say something like ”So, you’re going to grad school at..., right?” or “How do you like your new internship?” Outta the almost 20 years I knew him, I only saw him get mad ONCE, he wasn’t that mad and was bout a small thing too. He thoughtwe had to be somewhere early in the morning and got home too late. Once we told him the change of plans later for tomorrow, he was perfectly fine.
I dunno about your grandpa but mine was reluctant to giveup his car. He drove most of his life and I think he didn’t want to give it up cause it was his sense of freedom. If you want, I could give you the name of a non-fiction book about our grandpa’s generation, it was referenced in my grandpa’s funeral. I give it to my dad for father’s day or his birthday (I forget which one)
I’m sorry I wrote so much; once I started I just couldn’t stop. I miss him so much.

+SportsLuvr I know how it is don't worry, I have a tendency to type A LOT too, don't worry. But it's great to see so many people honestly caring so much about their grandparents and their stories. one can only hope that, that kind of tradition will be around forever.

+Appadriana Seriously, though. Not many other newcomers to the talk show game would know what to do with a person like Carl Reiner. He can't/won't be willing to be as active, spontaneous, or energetic as younger guests. He would rather talk about his experiences, which I think is perfect for such a legend to educate viewers about the past of comedy and performance. Conan's great with the older guests because he is willing to either have a chat with them or let them share.

At the most important moment in the story, when Reiner is about to explain a major fork in the road in his life, Conan INTERRUPTS and never returns. He doesn’t usually do that but it’s very frustrating to see a headline and a main part of the story is not told.
