This same riff is used in Talk Tonight! It's so cool that Noel recycled this same melody in another song and creates this musical connection which gives both songs so much more depth
No wonder that riff sounded so familiar the first time I listened to Talk Tonight! It complements the rest of the song so well that I didn't even notice lol. The more you know!
@@hatesitrick I don't honestly think Noel would have given Bonehead the chance. I wouldn't be surprised if all guitar parts, bass inc, are solely Noel on Wonderwall.
Exactly! I used to be the guy in uni who would play this part even if I was the only guitarist. I would legit stop the normal chords and play this instead, it's so beautiful and underappreciated
Noel used to put those everywhere in the first three albums. Supersonic has a couple of very cool arrangements too. He just seemed to lose interest in overlapping guitars and focused on vocal melodies as time went on.
That's awesome lol. Its interesting how this song is the go-to example when people talk about super easy guitar songs that get overplayed by beginners, but also has this pretty melody in the mix not too many people notice.
Yep, it's really beautiful. I often play this instead of strumming in the pre-chorus, when I sing it. Although it feels a little "thin" in terms of "sound width" compared to the full strumming parts of verse and chorus it is wrapped by, it just is so beautiful that it catches the listener's attention.
I pride myself on learning how to play this before the tabs began circulating online. I taught myself this by ear ten years ago, and I distinctly remember my friend at the time mouth agape wondering how the Hell I figured it out one night when we were jamming at his house.
The neat thing is that it's effectively just the riff from, "Talk Tonight." Noel's so good at lifting melodies he sometimes lifts them from himself. God bless him! Long live Oasis!
I think I need to go watch live performance of this now. It is honestly the most Wonderwall kind of day. Raining. Drizzly. Barely gotten out of bed. Eyes hurt from crying. Watching the kings speech. Thinking about old girlfriends.
Ive been playing guitar since i was 17 im 35 now, Wonderwall was my first song, and many oasis songs after. I buy friends oasis chord books when they wwnt to start playing
If a person plays Wonderwall in public, it must be a prerequisite that they be able to play this part too. Otherwise and only otherwise they are a poser. Jk ofc but really though this part is so beautiful and criminally underplayed
Noel tries to make out that the first two albums just fell out of his arse one day, but the effort behind many of those early songs is testament to the fact that there was always a little bit more to it than he would freely let on. These songs were a masterpiece, not necessarily for their complexity, but for the impact that they had both at the time and their enduring legacy, 30 years later. There isn't a serious guitarist alive who hasn't tangled with this tune at least once in their journey. There's not just the riff in this song, but how about Bonehead's second guitar with barre chords? Yet another nuance that is seen in the video, but never in any live performance.
I don't think there is a secret. Just be aware of which chord you are playing and pay attention to the picking. You can try the way I pick (in terms of which strings are played with down strokes/ up strokes), but if that's not comfortable try your own way :) And as always, be sure to start slow
It is a great song, but honestly one of my least favourite songs on the Morning Glory album. The only songs I like less than it are “Roll With It” and “Hey Now”… Still one of my Favourite albums of all time along with their debut, “Definitely Maybe”.
Feel like the Johnny Marr influence on Noel is clear as anything here
I thought that as well. This is very Johnny marr type riff
Agreed
Great point. This Wonderwall riff reminds me of the end of Some Girls Are Bigger Than Others.
@@RC-fi8nn I thought the same!
every 90s british guitarrist has Marr as their biggest influence

@@SmallvillenerdTwo that’s conceptual continuity

Noel doesn't get enough credit for the picking parts he layers under songs. Very well constructed and accurately played.
I wonder if it was him or bonehead tho
@@hatesitrick I don't honestly think Noel would have given Bonehead the chance. I wouldn't be surprised if all guitar parts, bass inc, are solely Noel on Wonderwall.
@@Kossman58You're right. Bonehead didn't play on Wonderwall. Noel did all guitars and bass
@@rtraktsdn1197 He played the mellotron on Wonderwall. It's the cello sounding part.
This riff goes so well with the rest of the guitars in Wonderwall.
This part always jumped out to me when I listened to that song. Great pick.

Same here. Y’all ain’t listening close enough if you don’t hear this jump out!
I love this melody so much, my favorite part of the whole song.
The piano riff that trails off at the end goes HARD.
While I’m surprised people wouldn’t recognize this riff instantly, your playing is super smooth. Well done.
I'll definitely bust this out next time someone says, "play wonderwall!" Thanks for making us cooler, Nikola!
When I get that request I'll often do the Ryan Adams version.
Good luck to anyone being able to hear this over my 'singing'.
I've always loved this guitar part and it adds such a nice texture to the song.
This has always been my favorite part of wonderwall

The overlapping guitars on Morning Glory are fantastic
For those in the know. I found out 10 or so years ago when I was a newbie, learning the song from the cifra club video
Sick brag man

"You said you'd never play Wonderwall!!!" "I said maybe..."
Thank you! People never talk about this arpeggiated bit!
the most interesting things in Wonderwall are this arpeggio and the tasty drumming
The cello does the trick
@@Pawsk you mean the mellotron
I love the way you play it, awesome! now I must learn this classic too!! These open string riffs are the best
finally, someone gets it down for the record...thankyou!

Great riff, definitely gonna practice this and add it while I'm playing Wonderwall !
The simplicity of this shows his genius
Well, I didn't know this, and this certainly gave me more of an appreciation for the song
I just love anything that walks down with grace the way this did
for some reason i never noticed this part as a separate guitar
Right? Haha

nice stuff to play to end the song when you’re playing alone

Noel uses that riff in about 4 songs! Talk tonight being one of them
I love the camera view.

Certainly picked Talk Tonight from that part on the D Chord.
Perfect ringtone 😂
Maybe.. this is gonna be the riff that saves me.
This is super cool
Bonehead played this riff during the knebworth gig ! But Noel’s guitar was too loud you can’t really hear it .
Absolutely. Always stood out to me.
Sounds like these people never actually listened to the song tbh. It's quite an obvious section with a catchy melody!
Magic pie has some awesome riffs in the mix it’s trademark Noel he does the simple sublimely well on lots of his songs.
My brain is broken and I was expecting the buddy holly guitar lick to show up
If you wonder why I like Wonderwall… the chord progressions.. it just works.
Can you do a full version please? I've been looking for bonehead's part for a while
Yes, I plan on doing a full song lesson 🙂
Liam, can we have that cool riff in the middle?
Liam: I SAID MAYBEEEEEEE
Excellent way of playing wonderwall. Now the space from chon please? lol
Hahah 😂 did you see that they released a tab book for Homey after like 6-7 years. Even Sheet Happens needs years to tab Chon songs lol
Stunning
Beautiful, my favorite part of this song. Did noel do this part???
One part is overplayed and wrong but I don't doubt it, genius.
Excellent
Taken out of context this sounds like proper mid west emo.
Gotta respect the implied A major though
Good luck w that
All can hear is "I want to talk tonight"
It's a cool riff in a cool song by a cool band.
Cool
nice riff i will steal some parts, i still have the worlds no1 wonderwall cover(chords) have found something new 🧠😅 undeniable

Noel didn’t waste it, it’s pretty much the main riff in the chorus to Talk Tonight.

What are you saying ? Its another Nickelback case ???
haha. I don't think its overplayed!

Nope, the stinking chorus are literal nuke alarms 🤮
The same lick is played in the background of the chorus of « Talk Tonight »
What kind of guitar do you play and what kind of strings do you put on it?
one of my friends forbids us to play wonderwall on jams so next time ill play this instead and see how long it takes til he figures out... XD
The most calming riff ever i don't care how much hate this songs gets its still one of the most well written songs ever
Sounds a lot like Talk Tonight
Basically what I do with the song too ,it's all there around the chords ,why not add to it and make it better which you do.

I don’t understand the question in the title. Is this riff not from Wonderwall?
It is indeed from Wonderwall, the title is suggesting (probably entirely correctly) that some people won't have noticed this riff part before.
How do you play this fast and efficiently? What is the secret? Seriously?
