A weapon with the characteristic of a demigod does have certain meaning.
For example agni carries the characteristic of fire, which means as it approach towards its target it will generate burning sensation (if the target is a human being).

Divyastras r not branded weapons. They r the weapons which carries the power and a characteristic that belongs to a particular demigod or a rishi while in action.
An warrior takes out an ordinary weapon and superimpose a particular characteristic on it before releasing it.
An warrior does have a number of choices to call and superimpose on his weapon. However he calls that characteristic which he feels can destroy the other weapon that's coming towards him or he chooses a characteristic which he feels his opponent cannot outsmart.
It's a kind of challenge which may be viewed as instant designing of an weapon.
Today's weapon experts say Patriot missile was designed to tackle ordinary missiles (like Scud missile etc.) because patriots locking capability is extraordinary.
