The Zao was my first tier X cruiser, and still has my best WR in tier X. Haven't played it in ages though, so after watching this video, I pulled her out and dusted her off. 130k damage, 4 kills and an MVP later, Im reminded why I love this ship. :)
I love Zao when the match has no carriers. I run up the flank (I play a speed/concealment build) torpedo undetected, turn around and drop opposite side torpedos then come back and do it again.
Very interesting to sea Terry’s play style with this line. The Japanese cruiser line was my first grind and I played them as destroyer hunters and used the torps against cruisers and BBs. I never put on HE through the whole grind. I thought that was just for Mogamis - the original fire starter.
Good ship, a bit of a learning curve after playing the Ibuki as I feel the play style is a little different. But maybe that's because its T10. Still trying to get a handle on this ship. After your video I did do some changes to the ship and play style, seems to work better after a handful of games, we'll see in the long run through. Thanks for the video
Cruisers are my favorite type and Zao is my favorite ship. It was nice to see that you drifted into a style similar to mine. I think I’ve buffed it towards more speed so mine tops out at over 38 knots. I frequently stalk battleships at the start and silently unload torpedoes on them (often with 1 wide and 1 narrow fan, slightly offset) and then run away and if I’m spotted ostentatiously start shelling a different target. It’s not my ship of choice to complete DD hunts, but if I’m near a teammate who’s under attack by one, going precise aim with HE usually blows them apart with one or two salvos.
A Zao properly deployed in a proper echelon during battle , is capable of projecting more combat power than any other cruiser in game . The torps, the flooding , fires , the AP on certain DD’s and Cruisers , deletion .
I find quite ironic the ingame description for the Zaō. "However, the design was too advanced for the Japanese industry at that time and the ship was never completed" Okay, so by that time, the Japanese had the capacity to build two Yamatos and a half, the Taihō, but not a heavy cruiser like Zaō?
A buff????? At least to AA or something of the sort. She’s super deadly, but anything carrier related, anyone with skills in any ship class, and any skill at all to do max damage can easily counter it

grinding the zao tech line in the second year of wowb wasnt fun😅 i had to change to des moines tech line bcoz of those CV main.

Terry this is the first tier 10 i ever got and i love the fact that it has 2 pairs of shima torps with powerful guns:)

I gave up at Ibuki because of how horrible it is. Basically a Takao in tier 9 with worse gun and torp angles.
Really nice cruiser but the problem with them is they are so fragile like a glass
