The new After Effects 3D still seems to pale in comparison to the texturing you were able to do in Element. Unless I'm not doing my GLTF exports correctly. But as far as I can tell, I can't even change materials once it is imported.
Yes, Agreed, Element 3D V2 was ahead of its time and now After Effects is way behind the times. I don't appreciate these updates like I probably should because I'm more so looking for AE to include Ai Content aware fill and other updates not related to 3D.
@@AdobeVideo Thanks for your reply. This method doesn't change anything for my workflow, as changing materials still means going outside of AfterEffects and resaving the model to do so. It looks like in Blender, at least, you can save the GLTF file with a separate bean file and separate texture images, which seems to cut out one of the steps. Unfortunately, my workflow uses C4D which doesn't have that export option yet. When I purchased Element3D 10 years ago, I also purchased the material pack. Those materials were able to be applied to any of the objects and swapped out right in After Effects. To be fair, I haven't tried anything using OBJ with After Effects yet so if those models behave differently than the GLTF files do (which have the materials embedded) then that might be more what I'm looking for.
Yet the Project window is still 20 years old. Thumbnail is freaking tiny on a 4k screen Let alone higher. Should have a thumbnail view with proper bins ( folders that can open to a new window ) Needs a hybrid Node / timeline system. the ability to change 1 Effect stack and effect 100s of layers. There is no doubt it's powerful these days but it's just hobbled by decisions made 25 years ago.
Hi, thanks so much for the excellent feature request. Sounds great and I'd like to see it too. Please post your excellent request here: adobe.ly/3A4YrvU Thanks again! ^KT
Element 3D still (still!) seems to be the better option here… how about being able to import and animate models in ae, but with the c4d renderer? Would be incredibly useful to be able to marry toon renders to 2d elements which is a common use case for me. Yes there is Cineware, but that does not allow you to animate in ae or parent objects to ae layers as element 3D does

I invite you to go over the updates brought to AE in 2024 & then go over 2023, 2022, … till 2019. The “we’ll be able to ship more innovative updates” excuse for the subscription pricing becomes very bleak… If a single developer launched a total suite on top or AE in 2012 for 3D, you should not be so proud with this launch in 2024, let alone put so much attention on it…
By this point there's only one relevant feature due to implement: native camera depth of field when working in the Advanced 3D workspace. Enable that fricking checkbox!!
Why can’t you just add timeline folders to AE and stop wasting time on gimmicky 3D features that nobody will ever use? I’m a 3D motion designer and it’s always better to just use dedicated 3D apps for this work. These 3D visuals are 10 years out of date!

Adobe's auto reply is so embarrassing. You;re absolutely right though, 3D deserves dedicated 3D software and render engines, not some clunky, boring model viewer. It's not even fun to play with.
@@tracelundberg absolutely. If you are wanting to get into 3D you should just dedicate the time in learning an app specific to that. It just frustrates me that they could be spending time improving functionality of core AE people use everyday. Agreed on their copy paste response too, it’s funny cause I’ve never seen anyone asking for 3D features in their feature requests. And if the Adobe person responding knows anything about AE it’s that people have been asking for timeline folders for years 😂
@@Oldyellowbrick You're totally right, the 3D look are extremely outdated, and look at that infographic example at 2:03, it's embarrassing. This video is a complete joke.
Can we have some modern effects plug-ins that are native to the program? Ones that are actually, like, useful? There's no reason why we don't have built-in advanced tools and menus for keyframe curve editing, 2D rigging & puppeteering, color ramp design, edge-light blend compositing, type animation, and a thousand other things that 3rd party developers are creating effortlessly. I'm betting that 99% of users never even use 50% of your ancient native plug-ins or even know what they do. Time for a thorough refresh of the 'Effects' part of After Effects. AND FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT'S HOLY, FIX THE TYPE MENU!! GIVE US FONT PREVIEWS!! AND WE DON'T NEED TO SCROLL THROUGH 300 SYSTEM FONTS THAT CAN'T BE UNINSTALLED OR HIDDEN.
@@EricPeelMusic After Effects works in a single object per layer timeline which doesn't work if you've got 1k cuts unless you want to constantly pre-composite. It's awful to work on any type of long-form video in it. The audioworkflow in it is almost non-existent. The playback is so much slower than Premiere. The color correction interface is just bad. In all honestly, it's just a very unuserfriendly workflow when compared to premiere and I've used both interchangeably for over a decade while watching as it scares away new users. Just because you can work your videos in it, doesn't mean you would want to. I'd love it to be weaved together like DaVinci has managed to do with Fusion because their dynamic links are slow on playback and jumping back and forth between programs is honestly just annoying to do.

You need to walk before you can run, Adobe. First, figure out how to add gradients along a path in 2D, like every web browser has done for over a decade. Then you can move on to 3D. Your user experince in both 2D and 3D continues to fall behind every other similar app.
Can we already have unified render engines? At this point it's embarrassing to not be able to use some stuff while in advanced or whatever it's name is now? Having to use composite to use effects on 3d model? Come on, we pour millions of dollars each year into subscriptions and everything is half baked in this department.
I would love the ability to play my mp4 video in the timeline at Half resolution without having to wait for that green memory cache bar to slowly load and randomly stop. I guess it is a dream.
This is a joke right? We need real time playback! Even Blender renders complex scenes faster then some text animations with a bit of motion blur in AE. That is ridiculous.
Finally, Number Counters.
To be fair...thats the most important upgrade in AE 25, lul.
