dude, you should never stop these lessons!! I am taking CALC II and two days ago when you didn't have this video uploaded on you tube, i was searching for videos that explain this principle, found some, but couldn't really get a clear Idea out of it! but now i can say i really get it all! ...
Where have you been all my life. I wish you were my Math teacher. You explain so well. God Bless Whoever gave birth to a mathematician like you. God please screw and fuk up my shitty math teacher though
another thing is that i am an Electrical Engineer major and as you probably know i need math to be my primary tool. It would be a great help if you'd upload some videos explaining how to deal with graphs, calculating averages by integrations and and sketching graphs based on points in them ... thank you
i know an engineer who says that he never used calculus in his career because they have computer software that does all this math for you, but he does use physics alot
I'm taking A-level maths, doing C4 now but never done anything like this (guessing this is degree level?). But anyway, i completely understand this, really well explained and interesting! Thanks :D
for comparison test, the logic seems to be the opposite for series right? if the smaller series diverges, the the bigger series also diverges. if the bigger series converges, then the smaller series also converge?
With these types of questions, it's easiest just to plug in a random number into your variable and check for yourself. So, you're trying to figure out why The square root of x^6 = x^3. Lets just say x = 2. 2^6 = 64 2^3 = 8 The square root of 64 is 8. Therefore: The square root of 2^6 = 2^3.
Yo it’s easy.. the denominator of a power is the degree the square root is taken.. x^(1/2) is the square root of x.. x^(3/5) is the fifth root of x^3. Simple.
But I dont understand, if P = 1, as x gets larger then P comes closer to zero no? thus converges. This would make sense to me if it diverges only if P < 1 and converges if P is > or = to 1 no????
Im sorry patrickJMT, but I am confused on which function you are evaluating for convergence, because if it's f(x), shouldn't you find convergence by finding a bigger function of g(x)? The same for divergence, but in the opposite way?
I don't know if anyone still monitors this video, but I was wondering if anyone could help me with a problem. I'm supposed to use the comparison test to prove that the integral from [0,2] for |sec x|/x^2 is divergent or convergent. But since it's not going to infinity, I'm not sure what to do. Any ideas?
Thank you very much for your detailed yet simple to follow tutorials ! I've just downloaded a bunch of PDF's with problems and solutions from you at www.teacherspayteachers.com and it looks great, just what I need to understand and pass my calculus course. Thanks again...
I dislike that, tell me what function. My book just "seems" to randomly cut of pieces of the function. Of course its logical, but it would be kind if they told the logic behind it.
If x over square root of x^4 is 1/x^2 and not 1/x I'm superman( WATCH AND CORRECT CALCULATIONS IN 7.37). I come here to understand better the comparison test and all I get is a guy that does not know how to do basic calculations.
So beautiful, I shed some man tears.
honestly, he makes it so simple
Thank you so much!!! Got a 98 on my calculus exam because of you! :)
+Ruby d nah, you got a 98 cause of YOU! :)
out of 300?

He draws those infinity signs so perfectly...
The paint analogy is adorable! Thank you so much, this definitely cleared things up :')

The day you post this vid is also the same time i have an upcoming calc 2 exam on this stuff. THANK YOU SO MUCH! :)
watch the exam im going to take in an hour have the worst improper integral to compare but thanks i understand this now
How'd it go?
@@david_handlebar i think he died taking the test :(
@@sleepy.philly💀💀
i watched a couple videos about this subject but this video is definitely the one that helped me understand it. thank you.
You have helped me more than you will ever know, Patrick! You have the absolute BEST math tutorial videos out there!! Thank you SO VERY MUCH!
I've been watching your vids since high school, thanks a lot!!!!!
Your explanations are perfect, I understand them after one play through. Thank you!
Great video! Makes sense to one who isn't even taking Calc right now.
Really Excellent . This is a series of classes with great mathematician , Patrick and his nice videos to continue my life and improve my math ...
my calc professor barely explained this and this took less time and made more sense than what she said. thank you
You deserve many subscribers. Thank you so much!
Just found your videos today. I wish I could have watched this last week. This would have helped me a lot in my AP calculus class
thanks patrickJmt u are my best teacher...
Khan Academy should hire you
Nah, he should hire KA
Lol what are the odds. I have a test on this tomorrow.
I dont understand how x^4 out x^3 at 3:27
Because it is x^6, looks like x^4 to me at first
The square root takes 2
your videos are just very helpful! thank you so much!!
Where have you been all my life. I wish you were my Math teacher. You explain so well.

congrats my friend for the amazing explanation!

How do we understand which method is used either limit comparison or direct comparison??
very nice lecture sir, thank you very much.
for comparison test, the logic seems to be the opposite for series right? if the smaller series diverges, the the bigger series also diverges. if the bigger series converges, then the smaller series also converge?
how is square root of 6 equal to 3? i don't understand that part
it doesnt
the square root of x^6 is x^3 because the square root of a number is n^1/2. so the square root of x^6 becomes (x^6)^1/2 which is x^6/2 which is x^3
okay i see it, thank you.
With these types of questions, it's easiest just to plug in a random number into your variable and check for yourself.
So, you're trying to figure out why The square root of x^6 = x^3.
Lets just say x = 2.
2^6 = 64
2^3 = 8
The square root of 64 is 8.
Therefore: The square root of 2^6 = 2^3.
Yo it’s easy.. the denominator of a power is the degree the square root is taken.. x^(1/2) is the square root of x.. x^(3/5) is the fifth root of x^3. Simple.

Is under root square x raise to power 4 is equal to x raised to power 3???
But I dont understand, if P = 1, as x gets larger then P comes closer to zero no? thus converges. This would make sense to me if it diverges only if P < 1 and converges if P is > or = to 1 no????
Im sorry patrickJMT, but I am confused on which function you are evaluating for convergence, because if it's f(x), shouldn't you find convergence by finding a bigger function of g(x)? The same for divergence, but in the opposite way?
Hey buddy on that example what if its square root of x^6 -1 on the bottom. What would f(x) have to be?
I don't know if anyone still monitors this video, but I was wondering if anyone could help me with a problem. I'm supposed to use the comparison test to prove that the integral from [0,2] for |sec x|/x^2 is divergent or convergent. But since it's not going to infinity, I'm not sure what to do. Any ideas?
What if you just have a nice problem like x/sqrtx^6 how to do we relate that to something else to prove it’s convergent
hey do u teach in any university? if u don't u must! u r a great teacher!
bro, you save lives
This is actually quite similar to the comparison test for series!
you are perfectly man.Really you affects me positively.
we need a vid for the Limit Comparison test for improper integrals
BRILLIANT !!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH :)YOU ARE THE BEST :)
Thanks patrickJMT!
what about if you have a denominator like (x-2)^3/2
Absolutely amazing. Thx u so much
To justify it, can we just find the integral and insert the boundaries to see if its convergant or divergent? Yes right?
I finally understand this, thank you so much :')
Perfect explanation
Suppose I get a 130% on my test I just might get an A in the class
Great video!
Sqrt(x^4) = x^2
Not x^3
Thank god you uploaded this, I have a quiz on this in an hour.. Thank God it's only a quiz....
wow.Great job.Keep it up!!!
how do we find the limit it converges at?
do you have a website, other than youtube? not really related, I tutor as well and am curious :P.
Nice explaination
great video for sum up
What if the answer is π/8, is it still convergent?
Bravo my friend!
many thanks!
can you make some Analytical Mechanics Videos??? PLEASE!
convergence/divergence is lit
thanks a lot

The self promotion here is real
It's true over the interval (1,infinity).

completely agree. I can NEVER find the right function to compare it too
very good my friend . nice one
Is this video sped up?

Jake Hopper actually, in that episode, he said cocaine is a hell of a drug, not heroin.
lol! are you implying something Patrick? haha jk love your vids man!

Okay but how do you do this with a sin function question? haha
6:14 That's not necessarily >=0, so you haven't actually proved it converges... imo
you should teach physics
