- We spent some video time with co-founder and lead vocalist Gene Ween (a.k.a. Aaron Freeman) of alternative rock band Ween at their New Hope headquarters, God Save the Qweens, 13. W. Mechanic St. Features acoustic version of Birthday Boy.
Gene Ween. You are influence of my life. I am only 15 and have a whole new perspective on music. Rock on and never stop inspiring!
If you see this comment I’m exactly where you were 9 years ago I’m 16 and ween is my biggest influence a huge part of my life
@@Alex-nf7gx wow!!
Now you’re old and in the way
Alex Loved seeing this dude :) I’m 24 now and probably never would have remembered this comment if it wasn’t for you. Ween still holds a really special place in my heart ❤️ keep it up dude!
SipertaSnake glad to hear you’re still listening to them!! I hope all is well in your life
Gene and Dean seem like great guys, and are one of the most criminally overlooked bands ever.
Glad to see that Aaron is healthy and happy! And that he still has the golden voice 2:59
Technically this video is from before the meltdown in Vancouver, but at least he's doing better now

Aaron Freeman what a dreamboat!!!!!
Aaron looks and sounds great ! I miss seeing Ween,I hope they come to Louisiana again soon.
Good band that Ween :)
I love New Hope, I love Ween, I love Birthday Boy. Thank you so much for sharing this.
Aaron looks happy as hell here
Great shoppe for Ween gear and everything that you won't find at the Fashion Bug
Michelle is very sweet.
What a great guy. Sounds fantastic even when having a casual jam.
I visited this shop today, the chick that owns the place is pretty chill.
They're literally just flirting the whole time
Yeah that guy filming is such a huge flirt with Gene
gener....bigger than the beatles, jesus,...all them revolutionaries. i gotta get back up to that store to stock up on weener tees.
Austin Texas !! Where's that confounded time machine!! I cant seem to get enough of Ween......
This video is pure joy. Thank you
He's always happy.
Cool store. I’ll have to come check it out. Only like a 10 hour drive...
It’s a hippie community. I live nearby.
First time I saw this video I was just getting acquainted with the band, but for whatever reason this quick little rendition of Birthday Boy ignited an obsession. There's something about their softer songs in particular that allows them to get under your skin and invade your life for awhile.
Gener~! You Rock~! We Love you in the SF Bay~!
Dear Gene, Please Continue to Rock My World!!!!!!!!
He looks like he's retired from NASA
the best comment of all time, forever in my mind :-)
He kinda has, if we can use space exploration as a metaphor for psychedelic drug use.
@@soko2407 Hehe forgot about this
He's went much higher than NASA ever did.
Funniest comment I’ve ever read
Ohey, I live here.
"amassing tons of non ween songs maybe make a mellow acoustic record....." yes please
i love god saves the queens and mishel is AWSOME
The Mollusk by Ween is possibly, the greatest prog rock classic ever. It's just a hair better than Rush's A Farewell to Kings.
Speaking of all that, Ween in on stage with Primus, as we speak, who just played a Rush set on their last tour.
Now and Then changed my life as well!
What was it, a head shop? Also where was it located (like where specifically in New Hope)?
Still Waving It Free in the tree... Believe me. ;)
It's called age people. Get ready for it.
@frostedwinter
Oh no, by no means does it suck. The shops there are eclectic as hell, the scenery on the bridge as well as the streets is beautiful, there's all kinds of art galleries, and the restaurants there are excellent, if you can afford them, that is. XD
Love ween!!!❤❤❤
I love how this has no dislikes
I wish I had a cool shop like this where I live.i can't find a ween shirt to save my life.i tried on line even. Couldn't get one.lol
Try Etsy.
Gener ~ you'll always be the Papa of New Hope and I hope there is never a new Papa of new hope. Lets meet on 33rd and third and third and third and third.
He is the American Paul
Genius Ween
Awesome, I wish I lived in New Hope! Gener's looking like he lost some weight too!
is gene ween the coolest or what
yeah Gener!
LOVE
I haven't been to New Hope since my grandparents moved away. I remember Now and Then, by the bridge, and Zipperhead. I think Now and Then is an ice cream store if I'm correct. What was the name of the awesome antique place on the corner of the busy intersection? I remember it was originally further up that street. Also is Superkind still there?
I know this is 6 years later, but I think that antique store got flooded out & it's no longer there. I don't think Superkind is there anymore, was it a headshop?
Superkind has been gone for a long time. We always called it “Back In Blue”
Is this store still open?
@Sincoola27 that amount of touring,, wow,, remeber he is now 42
What became of the acoustic record at 1:15?
Hahaha this is awesome
Wait...was it her that he wrote Birthday Boy for? It mentioned that in Baby Bitch.
I dunno.
MarmaladeJacket it can’t be..... I don’t think
6 years late here but no she isn't. The girl from Birthday Boy/Baby Bitch moved to California and likely still lives there. The woman in the video is Punk Rock Michelle.
Hey what state is this in?
Pennsylvania
very nice
The one dislike needs more brown in their life.
Gene looks like Tommy Emmanuel.
how did he get so old so fast???
eh his hair just turned gray, happens to a few ppl in their 20-30s, and maybe he gained a little wait, more genetics thatn subtances id say.
nope
well the white hair makes him look old,if he grew his hair back and dyed it brown he wouldnt look so old
What happened to Gener?!? His hairs gone lol. Good luck Aaron, wish it didn't have to be this way though.
R.I.P. Ween
Thurman Murman
Hope you're less of a douche 6 years later
@@southrules hes just bitter because his name is thurman
RIP? It’s 2022 and their playing a sold out show right now.
@@WhyDoIKeepFuckinUp this comment was made during their breakup
@@glokitti Ahh, ok, that makes sense.
