Roman Catholic Christianity was introduced in Nagasaki, Japan by European Jesuits in the 16th Century. There were about 300,000 Japanese that converted into Christianity. However, Japan had a period called Sakoku where Japan closed itself for about 200 + years from the rest of the world. Only Buddhism and Shinto were the acceptable religions. Japanese Catholic Christian's had to renounce their faith or die. They were forced to step on images of Christianity (for example the cross, Bible, rosary, images of Christ, etc.) If they refused they were killed. Christians had to hide their faith for 200 + years. Catholic Christians were massacred in Nagasaki during the Sakoku. After the Sakoku came the Meiji Period. During the Meiji period, the Kakure Christians (Catholics that were hiding) came out and confessed their Christian faith. During the late 1800s Protestant Christianity was introduced by American and Canadian Missionaries. The first Protestant Church in Japan was established in Yokohama. I believe that God is spreading his love in Japan. Christianity in Japan is small but it is growing. Now Japanese Christians can express their hearts and faith freely without being killed. God has great plans for Japan and for the rest of world. The one beautiful thing that I see in this pandemic is we the people are sharing God's love and blessings among each other around the world. Japan for Christ is something I've being working towards for years. Its even my profile picture on TH-cam.
