Gonna make a smaller. Or less fat. Size batton. Out of hickory. Good to have in my truck for self defence. And don't need a permit for it. Better than having nothing at all.. ..,
+cococlubs I think it was hawthorn. Something leftover from a pruning project I held onto for 10 years or so. It's extremely dense. Hawthorn is a guess but, it makes me think of Ironwood.
Hi Micah, Interestingly i actually have one of these but, i think it's more like 20-22". I just recently started making clubs on a lathe and have a ton of projects in the cue. Send me an email: travisjaneway@gmail.com and perhaps i send you info on the company that made mine (a gift). Otherwise, it may be take a long time until I get through my current projects.
Any suggestions on how to do this with only an axe, knives, and sand paper? I have a piece of mimosa wood I wanna turn into a club using only hand tools
Take your time and pay attention to the grain. Some woods want to crack and split out chunks of the wood that you may want to keep. If the wood isn't fully cured, you may have issues with cracking. If it does crack you can fill the cracks with a mix of wood glue and fine sawdust. Good luck!
Thanks! It's been a long time but I believe I used mineral oil. Nowadays, I mostly use Deft Lacquer or if I need UV protection Spar Varnish, Spar Urethane or Rust-oleum 2x Ultra Cover.
Now thats a man who knows how to work his wood
The spiral one looks so cool
That red one looks so cool
thats pretty cool

What kind of wood did you use?
Laburnum (Golden Chain Tree). Very dense wood. The other three are Purpleheart, Yew and Bigleaf Maple.
What kind of wood did you use to make the biggest club? The grain is spectacular. Looks like banded agate!

How can I get in touch with you to make a 32 inch club? Like Bam Bam's off of the Flintstones but, with spikes

psycologist : no classy caveman weapon doesn't exist it can't hurt you
classy caveman weapon :
awesome
Awsome idea. Clubs are way cooler than walking sticks or canes :D
Very impressive. Do you sell your clubs? I am always in the market for a new set of clubs. ZK
Planning on getting a lathe one of these days. Way more efficient than a machete and a sander :)
I finally picked up a lathe. If your interested, I have some of my work on Instagram @modern_primate

0.52 awesome bro.

Amazing. Are you still making these? 😎
From time to time. I made one from drift wood with an Axe, Saw and pocket knife last week, but mostly I make them on a lathe.

I would find something stronger than mimosa
Put it on a lathe and you can make that in less than one hour
Picked up a lathe a year ago. Much faster but have never turned a club in under an hour.
I can see that it took time but they are great.
Great job . What did you use to seal them?

Have you ever done a fire Harding with oil Lacquer
@@jeremyhannay1967 I haven't. I typically only work with fully cured wood.
They are going to be off balance without a lathe.
It's ok. I'm a off balance so it works out even in the end :P
Travis Janeway 😁😁😁
I wonder how they made clubs 3,000 years ago before the lathe was invented 🤔
Its. It meant to be so specific… off bałance may be even better since its for building muscle
poor neighbors..hours of machine noise
