      Agree, probably my new favorite after 25 years of listening to Radiohead. At least it's the one I return to most.... right now it's usually Amnesiac, In Rainbows, or Moon Shaped Pool. I'm starting to feel the same way about The King of Limbs which I initially kind of dismissed. It's their most chill and droney album which I actually appreciate on certain days (the lack of big song events is what turned many fans off). Same great tracks near the end too.

    cool thing about pyramid song is its just 4/4, in like a jazzy tss tka tss tka tss tka tss tka with toms vocals and the drums and first note in the piano riff all kicking in on that first beat, once you find that rythm, bopping along to the song is so cool. its like listening to two songs at once. one when you bop along offsetty (idk the terms lol) with the piano as your time keeper, and one with the 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8 and 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8, its a great song

    Yes, thanks for getting back on the Radiohead journey! A very underrated album of theirs that's pretty experimental, and I love every minute of it. The first song of the album, Packt Like Sardines in a Crushed Tin Box, is definitely reminiscent of Kid A, as if this album would be a continuation of the previous, but whereas Everything In It's Right Place softly immerses you in the world of Kid A, the opener here kind of drops you off and waves goodbye as you enter the beautiful disjointedness that is Amnesiac.

    This album lost a lot of fans as they got so experimental, even after Kid A, but it has some of their best music. Pyramid song might be my favorite Radiohead song, and that is saying A LOT. There is nothing like it. It is hard to express what mood Pyramid Song evokes. It reminded me of Knights in White Satin with the strings for some reason. I strongly suggest repeat listens to that song. Definitely one of my top songs of all time.

    I'd be very interested to see you react to some trip-hop, in particular Portishead's first 2 albums Dummy and Portishead, as well as Massive Attack's Mezzanine album. Another lesser known group that would be amazing to hear your thoughts on, is the Icelandic group Sigur Ros, definitely a group to familiarize yourself with and read a bit about, very different and incredible.
    FYI, with Portishead, any and all tracks that you can watch/listen from their Live in Roseland NYC Concert, is worth it, they have a philharmonic accompaniment throughout the show, epic concert.
    And lastly, before I forget, 2 other bits I think you would get a kick out of Tina S., especially her Moonlight Sonata 3rd movement on electric guitar, she is amazing, she also does covers of several other epic works with insane guitar work. And finally, the Danish National Symphony Orchestra has some wonderful videos to several of their theme nights, The Good The Bad and The Ugly, is definitely a highlight, but they have concerts for Star Wars, Star Trek, The Lord of the Rings and obviously a western concert devoted to the man with no name trilogy.

    I have to admit that I liked Amnesiac more than Kid A at first, mainly because of Pyramid Song, I Might be Wrong, and Knives Out. One has to remember how daring this music was for a popular rock band to attempt, with many avant-garde touches. I was wondering when you were going to get back to Radiohead, and I’m glad you are enjoying it and recognizing that this is about as “progressive” as music can get. Thank you.

    Hi again, Dean. I put off listening to this cd for many years-finally in 2015 I did just that. I was completely bewitched by the first 4 tracks. I couldn't understand the complete disregard for the cd by Radiohead fans. I loved it b/c it was very emotional and raw. It seemed deeper and more relateable to me somehow. I believed that Kid A and Amnesiac were somehow ointertwined then, when Kid Amnesiac was released as a 2 cd set, I realized I was correct in my assesment. Technically Amnesiac was not left overs from the Kid A sessions. It was part of a 2-disc set. Then Radiohead released the Kid Amnesiac art exhibition with some amazing visuals-Pyramyd song visual was great, Like Spiing Plates Like Us visual was great, and I like the track You and whose army, but the visual was the stuff nightmares are made of. Overall, Amnesiac is my third favorite Radiohead cd. Very emotional and very dark. Again You and whose Army is an excellent track that has a distinct 1930's/1940's feel and a futuristic digital feel at the same time. Love the track, but the visual exhibition is like a nighjtmare. Like Spinning Plates Why Us version is super emotional, and my 2nd favorite Radiohead so far.

    5:55 The timing in Pyramid Song is just a repetition of: two dotted notes, a half note, and then two dotted notes. So it's technically in 4/4, but the asymmetry of the bars makes it feel like the bars are falling into each other, kind of pushing and pulling - or 'breathing'. Also they put chord changes in various places in the middle of bars which makes it feel even less regular.

    • @deanwolfechannel
      @deanwolfechannel  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for explaining that. It feels so random yet its precise. I wonder if the pyramid shape inspired the pattern, 1 2 3, 1 2 3 triangle, 1 2 3 4 sides viewed from above.....

  • @RatchetSly
    @RatchetSly ปีที่แล้ว

    Four months late here, but Pyramid Song into Pulk/Pull is the hardest whiplash in their discography for me. Pyramid Song is this ethereal, disorienting, melancholy tune that turns into a powerful, emotional dance of strings and swing, which trades places with How to Disappear Completely off Kid A for my favourite Radiohead song.
    Pulk/Pull, meanwhile, is the biggest missed potential tune they've made. I love the beat, the pummeling industrial percussion with that dragging, gritty descending synth... but, to me, the band proceeds to do almost nothing with this fantastic idea for much of the runtime.
    The version of Pulk/Pull on Kid A Mnesia that combines it with True Love Waits is magical, though. It's like hearing an idea completed.

    Pyramid Song is one of my favourite pieces of music of all time. The genius of it is that the foundation of the time is a 3:2 Bossa clave swung and played a much slower tempo that you'd usually find it (if you want to get analytical).

    • @andrewsharpe4764
      @andrewsharpe4764 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Not really because of Thom’s playing. It’s a dotted crotchet (quarter note) rhythm with a triplet feel swing. You get two dotted crotchets (1/4 notes) followed by two tied crotchets that go across the bar, followed by two more dotted crotchets. The swing makes it that much more difficult to follow because the offbeat notes come a fraction later than you might expect. If you have trouble counting it, follow Phil’s ride when the drums come in.
