He’s kinda like an MMA MvC2 Captain Commando w an upgrade to his Captain Fire and given a Flash Knuckle as compensation for the removal of his extra elaborate specials like Captain Corridor. Luke is not weak, people dropped him simply because they didn't like the character. The "nerfs" are the cues people needed to drop him and switch character.
People dropped Luke because they actually didn't really like him, but he was the strongest character, so... Remember when Luke was revealed in SFV ? The reactions weren't that enthusiastic, there was no real hype, because the character himself seemed bland, especially after the likes of G, Laura, Abigail, Zeku, FANG, he looked too "normal"... people were more like "OK, that's the new character, we'll see what he's worth"... people were way more enthusastic when Akira was revealed... but at the end of the day, not many people played Akira, and everybody switched to Luke, only because he was completely broken. And it carried on to SF6, and now that Luke has been toned down, he's not a winning machine anymore (while still being one of the best though), people switched either to a character they actually like, or either to another powerhouse, like Akuma.
I really like Luke from the story perspective and from the gameplay perspective even though he’s not a “main” for me. I think with how they handled his buffs/nerfs, it’s clear it was to address the strong community dislike for him being the “new face of the game.” In that same update, they turned on god mode for Ryu. While yes it can be said it was for a gameplay balance, I do think a lot the choices people are making and what capcom chose to do are a result of the dislike for the character

@@logangore8338 See, you're the kind of person who will still play Luke. Because you like the design, not because he's the meta pick. I just don't think there are that many of you, that's why his usage has dropped off.
To be clear, I don't think you shouldn't like Luke, to each their own. I just think he sucks shit as a character design, doesn't mean you can't like it.
Another person here who likes Luke’s character design. I think people do like him as a character cause he’s fun to play, but most people are trend chasers more than character specialists.
Cap com help meeeeeee🐑
Only one minute of explaining why Luke was "dropped". Rest of the video is just gameplay 😐
He be the new Ryu.
Yo
Yurrr
If only I could play again, I’d have been evo champ this year
Huh huh
ya’ll see his print? 😏
To answer your thumbnail from my perspective, he's fuckin' boring.
Because the only thing Luke had going for him is that he was stupid strong. Almost no one legitimately like that annoying dumb looking designed by committee character. Capcom may keep pushing Luke™️ as the future of street fighter, but as is there's no way that walmart brand fella will catch on organically
There are alot of people who like luke just anybody over the age of 28 hate him cuz he replaced ryu as the face people who complain sound childish
@@logangore8338 Nah but if people really liked luke he wouldn't get dropped by everyone the second he's not stupid OP. You have so many people that stay with Ryu even when he's trash because they actually like him. People that played Luke just wanted a busted character that was super easy to play.
@@jkvltra804 exactly.
Luke is straight up boring.
