John Eastwood in his book classifies determiner as a distinctive part of speech. That is to say, he considers it to be separate from adjective and pronoun. He argues that determiners only include articles and possessives. Quantifiers are adjectives and the demonstratives like this, these etc are pronouns unless followed by a noun. What is your opinion? Is determiner merely combination of articles, pronoun & adjective or it is a distinctive part of speech?
