I've been remote since two weeks to slow the spread. My company say's they will never ask me to go into the office. And I still get my yearly raises and bonuses. And no, they don't monitor my computer usage. As long as I get done what I'm supposed to get done, they don't care how I do it or what else I do.

I’ve worked from home off and on for 30 years. The solution is to pay based on production. End the salary. When I work my behind off I get paid well, when I don’t work I don’t get paid. That’s the way it should be.

My son started his first job in the gaming industry. He’s a 3D artist and his company doesn’t even have an office. My husband (retired) worked in an open office, and he would work from home once a week to get things done. Every 5 minutes somebody would walk up to him and engage in a conversation or need help, his opinion or whatever.

When I work remotely, I'm extremely productive. I can usually get the daily actions for my full-time job in Banking/IT done in roughly 4 hours or less per day. That leaves several hours for "personal projects".
Its win-win. I accomplish everything that's expected of me from my W2 job and I also get to workout, do chores, run errands, complete renovation projects and grow my side businesses.

As someone who has worked remote for a while now, I can tell you that it is impossible to game the system. Because at the end of the day, what matters is the results you deliver. As opposed to the office, where you can show up and pretend to work. Impossible if you are remote. As for the tracking software, it is just an excuse for people to sell software, and for low-level managers to have a job. But it usually results in people updating their resumes.

We have regional offices and go there once a quarter for a two day meeting, the rest of out monthly meetings are virtual. It' works with the type of work we do, which is client based. I think if you have a strong work ethic in the office you have a strong work ethic outside, i.e. WFH, and vice versa. A lot of office environments are toxic - too much micromanagement, too much gossip. That's a real productivity killer. For parents who don't have the child care concerns, working from home reduces absenteeism.
In my opinion, if a job can be done from home, it should be. Nobody likes to be micromanaged, and adults should be able to understand what the key performance indicators are regardless of where their desk is, and continue to meet them.

It is a losing proposition to criminalize poverty. It has to be addressed in other ways, and there's plenty of data to support the things that work. It is important to remember that poverty is a policy choice, and the country. We can either attack the issue or continue to allow it to fester, poverty is not the lack of affordable housing but a contributing factor. We have to create more affordable housing period. We will have every city that someone calls home with people living on the streets if we continue to ignore the fact that there's just not enough units to live in. Period

While a little sad, if our city design wasn't so awful this wouldn't be a problem. In ye olde days before cars destroyed our cities and mixed use development was the norm, all those businesses would continue to prosper just fine from all the people living there instead of being a corporate wasteland that sits empty 12 hours a day. If anything, it should be a wakeup call that mixed use, walkable neighborhoods are good and long commutes from distant suburbs a wasteful nightmare.

If these CEO’s and such see the statistics and cost, but want you back in the office….there has to be a reason. Productivity is lower for WFH. It out ways the cost to get you back in. Cause if it cost less and productivity was high, they would keep WFH. I know a lot of ppl that work from home and even tell me they barely work. Most ppl can’t differentiate home and work when it’s a WFH. do I believe some actually do their job WFH…yes. But definitely not all.
Unfortunately if ppl can scam…they will. A company probably sees that their money is being used properly if you’re at work and available than to be home and don’t know what you’re doing all day as your “clocked in”.
If your job tells you to go in.. you either go in or be prepared to be fired. It’s that simple.

I deliver, I work into the night when we have deadlines. Some of the others I know are being told to go into the office at least 2 days - to places where they have no other people in their department and are forced to hot desk so don’t even have a properly set up desk. Whatever happened to office ergonomics and setting up each station for an individual so they had the right equipment? Where I work, we’re allowed one day of WFH/week. It was supposed to be on specific days of the week, but our manager is such a poor communicator, it’s turned into a mess. Like you don’t know why you’re stuck with certain days. Then you have people who have the OK to come into the office, by 10 and go home to work, by noon, with their counterpart never receiving an answer, as to why they have to be there all week.
I’d like to WFH full time. I’m an introvert and I don’t need constant interaction. I know that what I need isn’t what the office is about though.
But what they have are still people who may come in, but they eventually find the door. They may come in, leave early or find some reason not to be there.
But the way management handles things, they build resentment, by keeping it weird and often have themselves to blame.

I round table about two files per day with the boss, and actually put documents in front of both of us and solve problems that straddle competing rules.
