let 1000x is total voters
promised 40% to P = 400x
60% to Q = 600x
but actually P got = 340x + 150x (Q's voters)= 490x
and Q got = 450x + 60x(P's voter) = 510x
so 20x =300 (given)
x=15
that's why total voters were 100x means 15000.

Hello sir,
In question number 11 instead of subtracting 51x from 78x -15500 we can add the votes of winner and loser and it should be equal to total number of valid votes
51x+51x-63500=78x-15500
From this equation the value of x will also be 2000 and I feel it is a bit simple and fast and can be beneficial in the examination
Total vote 100u
Then 40u goes to p and 60u to q
Then (40*17/20) goes to vote P and 40*3/20 went back and in q (60*3/4) and 60*1/4 went back so total votes for P is )(45u+6u)-(34u+15u) =300
U=150 and total voter 150*100=15000
