you can tell with lots of different types of songs where a tune can mimick words somehow its up to the mind what fits

Actually they did sample in that part. Some SRW tracks have bits like that meshed in. I think the Z series does it with Heats (though poorly)

Interesting that this game uses Airmail from Nagasaki version of the song when the game focuses on the second half of the series which uses the Hironobu Kageyama version if I recall correctly.

You are wrong there. Kageyama did no version of "Melos no Youni - Lonely Way -" for Layzner.

Angel IV Esguerra he did a cover for it a long time ago. Last I remember it was on youtube somewhere

Kageyama did a lot of covers for the Super Robot Spirits series of concerts (Layzner, Gundam-ZZ, Getter Robo), from that his version of "Melos..." comes from. I believe because at the time (1999-2000) his only Mecha anime song was "HEATS" from Shin Getter Robo Armageddon, he needed more than one participation in those concerts.
