It's not like the Company allows pilots to hop into the plane and go flying wherever they want. My company for example does allow VFR under certain conditions, but not without contacting OCC and having a dispatcher file a VFR flight plan (even if it is an 8 mile hop...)

, it’s a part 91 flight not 121, so they are subject to less strict rules. And they are going 8 miles north, is not a big deal at all.

I mean Ive had a 748 depart VFR. Doesnt seem that outlandish. Was a maintenance test flight when I asked them but same thing.
