- Our miniature dachshund Mac has been traveling with us since he was 5 months old, so we thought we'd make a little how-to video about how to fly with your dog. :)
Mac is a miniature sausage dog (doxie, teckel, dackel) who lives in Montreal. Follow his adventures here!

Sounds like Canadian airlines are more open to dogs? I am American but live in the UK and I would love to bring my doxie w/me back home but I don’t think any airlines over here allow you to fly with pets in the cabin and there’s no way in earth I’d ever let him be in cargo

Do you think it is worth the extra bother and cost to fly with Mac to europe? Eg vs pay for him to stay behind?
Fyi. Check with a vet to see if your breed handles travel stress, 10 + hours, well. My poodle was a travel nightmare!

That was very informative thank you does not apply to myself as live in Scotland and don't own a dog that's why I love Mac's videos so much obviously different regulations in Great Britain but when I had my cat's if we were going anywhere like Vet's or boarding cattery always put their carriers out well in advance of the journey great tip hugs to globetrotter Mac 😊😊

Hi there, we're going on our first trip overseas (EU) overnight. Our doxie is about 11 months old, flying in cabin. Do you feel it's necessary to administer a tranquilizer for an overnight flight? We would prefer not to, especially since it's not recommended by the American Veterinary Medical Association. Thank you.
mac is such an amazing lil creature - best wishes from USA! for whatever reason i always thought that animals were put in a completely different compartment from passengers so i'm happy to see that you get to have him with you when you're seated. it just creates way less headaches and greatly reduces the possibility of lost or stolen animals

Some airlines don't accept pets for carriage in cargo any longer, due to issues that have happened when they were carried there. But some do.
One good thing about dachshunds is that they are just the right size to fit underneath most airplane seats! ❤

Hi ! On the Canadian Air lines it said that the dog should have the possibility to turn around in his cage but it’s seems that it’s not the case in your situation. How long is your daschund and what are the dimensions of your bag ? Thank you !
It's hard to test for this beforehand, but make sure you get a well-made carrier! We once delayed our plane by 20 minutes because our dachshund chewed through his carrier while under the seat, and they had to find duct tape... oops! 😂
You flew to Portugal where I am from and live. If I knew it would be great to meet you. I hope you had a great time. You were in Lisbon, I know the beach you went to.
How to fly with your dog? You'll have to use both arms in order to fly, so you will have to strap him on your back or??? 🤪😁

How do you deal with fellow passengers who are allergic?
We've never encountered this, but it's our understanding that the airlines take care of it. They usually have specific seats or a section that is for people traveling with pets (:

I thought you had to quarantine your dog if traveling to Europe. Do some countries still require that?
That’s interesting; I hadn’t heard about that. Perhaps it depends on which country you’re coming from. It seems that countries with a low risk of rabies have fewer requirements. We haven’t looked into it firsthand, but we’ve also heard the UK has additional requirements beyond the EU’s.
@@macdeminidachshundit actually was the UK that I'd heard had the quarantine requirements. However, it was like 25 years ago that I'd heard quarantine was required, too, so maybe things have changed.
