Excellent. One of the best lectures on Hilbert transform applications and the best available on TH-cam.

I've been trying to understand the Hilbert transform using my severely rusty math skills (took my last calculus class in the early 90's) and while I'm still not there, this is as close as I've gotten. I'm interested in it from a signal processing perspective, and this video finally gives me an idea of how a Hilbert transform could be used to extract I/Q data from an audio or digitized radio stream and demodulate AM, FM, or PM. Thanks so much! I'll revisit these videos when I've back-filled some of my lost math knowledge.

Thank you for the video and excellent presentation, it is very informative and clear. Nevertheless, i suspect that in case of a simple sine input, direct measurement of the period between zero crossings may produce better estimate of the instantaneous frequency.

    Hi Jake
I found this video really interesting. Thak you for upoading for the rest of us to see.
So, the advantage of performing such a method over a Fourier Transform is that you get WHAT frequencies are in the song but also WHEN they occur, right? This is what we mean by Time-Frequency Analysis?

Great video, but how to plot the hilbert spectrum using its inst freq and amplitude info over time?

I am not clear why the instataneous frequency is noise and jumping?

If we want to detect abrupt phase shift, do we still have to unwrap the signal first or not?
