I just discovered your channel and want to say that I absolutely love your open, down-to‐earth, humorous and charming way. It is a great pleasure seeing you interact with each other and deal with life. 😊
Yay welcome to the channel! Aww thank you for saying such lovely words! We’re just ourselves and it’s very nice to hear that people appreciate us just being…well…us lol so thank you 😍
Me and Paddy, have bought a derelict cottage in eslin bridge are we near you? We are loving seeing your journey. We need to start ours. You are our inspiration ❤
Hi Debbie awww thank you so much and thanks for watching. That sounds really exciting, hopefully you will be as happy as we are. Eslin Bridge isn't too far away from us so expect plenty of rain and four seasons in one day moments lol. Let us know via email when you move over, if you haven't already or don't already live here lol, I am sure we can sort out meeting up. Good luck with everything and speak soon.
Thank you for sharing your story and answering our questions. Hopefully, other people will be encouraged to pursue their dreams. You are a lovely couple and i very much enjoy following your projects and hope your channel grows quickly. Best regards.
Thank you so much John. Your comments are always so nice and also encouraging, we do like to read them. If only one person see's what we have done and decides they can do it too, then our videos have been worth it. Fingers crossed our channel grows enough so we can have enough to manage. We don't need riches, just enough and we are happy. How is Canada at the moment? We have had a mix of sun and rain but it is still chilly at night. Have a good week John and thank you again :-)
Hi, guys, June 23rd is St John's night, just after Solstice. On John's night it is traditional to light a bonfire. Part of the Fire Spirit for the turn of the year. Bless you both, you are an In spiration to many. I wish you luck and joy and God health!
Hi Artistik World, how are you? Well it just so happens that we have been collecting bonfire material for St John's night in readiness, hopefully the rain won't dampen it down to much. I think having a pile collected and learning about St John's night about two months ago was a happy accident, don't you think ;-) Thank you very much indeed, that is a really nice thing for you to say and a very nice thing to read. Thank you so much for watching and commenting :-)
Hi, I'm well. Start a good fire with dry kindling, then add all the rest. Some of the dryworm timber will be fine for starting it. When I was a kid in the west of Ireland, Bonfire night was a big event. Thanks for all your vids I enjoy them..
It’s amazing how much we are alike. My husband and I also have always been home bodies, we have never really been the type that loves going out, we don’t drink or smoke. I am exactly like Dawn, I have to be busy, I absolutely hate being bored and am always ‘pottering about’. We in many ways regret not doing something similar when we were younger. Loving watching your channel, and seeing the changes. xx
Hi Andrea.. thank you so much for watching and commenting. I think there are more of us home bodies than we think and certainly a lot of people maybe regretting not going with a gut feeling and just going for something. We knew that if we didn't grab the bull by the horns when the time seemed right, we may not be here or ever done it. We are so pleased we did. We used to smoke but gave up and just vape now, been vaping far too long but a lot cheaper than smoking. Don't know about healthier yet, we will let you know lol. I like to potter and Dawn likes the big things when available to do, but this weekend, for the first time is a weekend off. Thanks for sharing our adventure, it is nice to know we are enjoyed :-)
There has been plenty of rain hasn't there Thomas. Our water tanks are full so we never complain but a week of just sun would be nice. Thank you for the lovely comment and for watching. Have a nice weekend.
To me, this was the best! Thank you both for sharing your story, I was glued from the word Hello. Thanks to everyone for asking questions, as now I can understand the why's, wherefores, and way you do things. My grandmother used to tell me a lot; there is no right or wrong way to do things, just different! And you both embody that, I love it. Cheers to you both, and keep having fun.
That is lovely Robyn, thank you so much for watching and writing such a lovely comment. Your Grandmother was right, as long as it is done in the end, it doesn't matter how we got there. We will get there in the end. Have a lovely rest of the day and thank you again.
Be mindful that wet land can play havoc with hooves. Goats like dry footing and all hooves can be prone to foot rot and thrush if kept on wet land. Also, why pygmies when you can have nigerian dwarfs? We showed pygmies for years and if they’re just pets, then okay. But why not nigerian dwarfs? They’re colorful, pretty to look at and are also a miniature breed so easy to handle. Added bonus is that unlike the miniature meat breed, they’re a miniature dairy breed so can provide all for all your dairy needs; milk, yogurt, butter and any cheese you can think of.
Yes that is a bit of a concern and one we have thought about since moving here with the land being so wet, we hope that we can dry it up a little with drainage but even then we’re not sure if it will be dry enough. The farmers around here have had to have their cows in a lot longer this last year because of how wet the land has been. Why pygmies? In all honesty, we just love their sense of fun and how happy they look to just be alive! They will be pets more than anything else, every animal we have will be that. I have read and watched about Nigerian dwarfs too but I think as we only want them for pets, meat or dairy hasn’t been a consideration initially. I still think we are a way off having animals which is a shame as I would desperately love some, there’s still too much to do with the house at present and getting the land suitable for animals with shelters and hard standings. 😔 One day! ❤️
You are right about all the new housing estates being built “outside” villages, it takes away the “village”. It looks so peaceful and also reminds me of my childhood days. You two are so lovely, I feel like I’m sitting in the room with you like a friend or family member 😊❤!
Hi Catherine, welcome and pull up a chair. We have quite a few watchers who feel like they are just having a chat with us and although it wasn't something we had planned when filming, it just seems to have happened this way. So, milk? Sugar? Help yourself to biscuits. We can chat all day long. Villages are starting to merge into the edge of towns and the traffic is just bonkers. It is so peaceful here, until I start the chainsaw, but no neighbours to complain, farmers out until 10pm and 11pm and it is just part of life here, it is amazing. Thank you so much for watching and commenting Catherine :-)
Really enjoyed learning your journey and what you are going to do with the your Irish farmhouse. We had a similar journey over to Ireland in 1999,we were in our fifties. At that time we thought it was like going back to the 1950's,but has got much busier since then.We would not go back, things we miss are public transport, not being able to jump on a bus, decent fish and chip shop and an English pint of beer, nothing else.Hope you will remain as happy as we are.
Hi Wendy, thank you for a great comment and of course for watching. We think it is like going back 40 years or so. Petrol pumps are still a single pump where the man MUST put the fuel in the car, you can buy coal and logs from everywhere and so many other things. Public transport for us is non existent where we are unless we go into a town or know the bus route. We need to find a good Chinese takeaway but we really don't miss anything except family. We love the way of life this area gives us. Thank you again for watching and commenting :-)
Thanks Tyene. Two operations done and I am fixed at the moment. I think it has been 12 years now since my last one. Fingers crossed it stays away. Dawn was great throughout it all :-) Hope you don't suffer to much from it.
“The Irish Homestead” did the static caravan, “because their derelict house was really bad!” It made the whole process much easier I think. But the added expense of the caravan itself can be a bit much. I think you did it the best way for you.
They did a very good job on their static caravan. I think it would have made our lives a lot easier to have had one but like you say for us at the time we did what was the best way for us. In hindsight and different circumstances, we would definitely go for a caravan and an empty house to work on! 😂
What a wonderful Q & A, loved hearing your story, you were so fortunate to find such a great property, at exactly the right time for an amazing price. You really do know when something feels right and you've certainly moved to the right place. I'm so fond of you both, you are doing everything right and also I'm thrilled that you're keeping the brown!❤
Good evening Pat, how are you today and how has your week been? Thank you for your nice comments. We were fortunate. Everything just seemed to fall into place at the right time. The cottage we had our hearts set on soon fell by the wayside when we saw it in person. Believe it or not, it would have been too much for us to take on with no experience in building works or a trade. But The Corner House was the second place we looked at and we were so sure after an hour of being here, we even removed some of the ivy which had started to grow up the wall of the house, somehow knowing we would be back. Not sure we are doing everything right.... we are doing everything slowly hahahaha. We want to restore as much as we can, or recreate what we can, so keeping the brown, especially knowing how much you like it, is important haha. Thank you so much Pat for always watching and commenting :-)
ROFL I loved the "digger" dig 🤣 I'm proud of both of you, Living in a tent and sleeping on a Sofa Bed is Epic Determination! Love your beautiful smiles Dawn that stone work is fantastic! Ben, I love the Camera Monitor picture behind the sofa - that is brilliant!!
Hahahaha, never say never though, we may need one one day. We are proud too Janie but love how you are with us each step of the way. Determination is our middle name and we will have a go at pretty much anything. I will sort the last bits of Dawn finishing the first part of the wall so you can get to see it and not just a glimpse of it through a photo on the wall haha. I felt like we needed something a little different for our Q&A :-) Thank you as always, for always being here, even though you are all the way over there. (Lukas will be over there again in a month or so)
On your water situation why not ask the farmer next door to supply your water , the shed next door has a water supply, it would be easy to run a pipe to your house , pretty sure he would do so for a couple of hundred a year if anything, until ye get your own well, just a suggestion. Ask around for a local water deviner, he will tell if you have a water supply on your land .better to know for peace of mind, if there is none, then farmers water is your best option anyway. I built on a 10 acre field, found water beside the house, but he said that was the only place showing in the field.
Hi Tango It is a thought but we wouldn't want to put him in a position where he felt obliged to say yes if there is a reason he shouldn't do it. We are doing well on the rain water harvesting at the moment and have all the filters and UV light in place making sure the water is clean, germ and bacteria free. We can always add chlorine to the tanks if we wanted to go down that route. Dawn is pleased with the fact that in 12 months, she hasn't had to use hair conditioner as there is no additives in the water. Thanks for your input and thoughts. Something we will keep in mind.
Hi im from Ireland i lived in the country side when i was young... then i lived in a town for 30 years now at 66 im back in the countryside and i love it
Really impressed by your bravery in saving this old cottage from ruin. Amazing you havent had any previous renovating experience!? You both seem so capable! Inspiring!🥰👌
I think our experience shows up in how slow we do things 😂 but we’re getting a bit quicker as the time goes on. We’ve learnt so much since we started which has helped too.
It was something we thought about in the beginning but not sure what we will do now. Who knows what the future will bring. You can be our first guest if we do! Xx
Awww thanks guys. Was joking with Rob who'd get the longer answer but we're both chuffed you gave us such wonderful answers. We have our dream to take us thru the tough times and did wonder what yours was. Keep it up loved the kitty asleep on the table, we hoped that was the back story for Alan and Steve and totally would love goats!!
Well we don't know why Clare but your comment was put in the naughty box for some reason, so sorry for the late reply. They were both great questions and both deserved thoughtful answers, I am not sure who had the most air time in the end though between you, call it a draw :-) It is the dream that keeps you going isn't it. To look around and know that one day it will all be amazing and worth every cut, bump, bruise, ache, oooh, ahh and grunt! (We seem to be having more ooohs, ahh and grunts lately). The cats on the table were a happy accident. Peaches is just nosey and Alan was busy sleeping to care. Oh yes, it had to be Steve and then Alan for exactly that reason. We have never had human names for any of our cats but always liked them, so these gingers were the first. Goats are just ar**holes which is why we love watching the videos and can't wait to get some in the future. Have a great week both of you :-)
It is a beautiful area Barbara, even when it is raining. It doesn't matter where we walk or drive it is always beautiful any time of the year. Thank you for watching and commenting :-)
For the next Q&A then, have you considered bees and bee-keeping, for pollination and honey? Clever setup, with the camera outside, and the screen, and sound equipment. Nicely done.
Hahaha, the next one? We were shocked at how hard it was and we know the answers already. I think making it like we did made it harder though, but hopefully more interesting. Bees..... I did say to Dawn long ago about keeping bees but I am not a fan of them really so decided it probably wouldn't be a good move lol. Thanks Andrew for watching and commenting :-)
Watching the Q&A today I was struck by a similarity! I also bought a fixer-upper on 1 acre of land in the Mississippi countryside for the same amount as you did! Lol. What a coincidence! I gutted (literally me) the entire house down to the studs and started over. Only the ceilings were spared 😬 Thankfully I didn’t have stone walls to repair. I can’t wait to see it all done but you are right to pace yourselves.
Wow that is a coincidence isn't it, sounds like you had it all under control. You and Dawn sound alike, don't really need men lol. How long ago did you buy that? And depending on that answer, have you got it all finished and how you wanted it to be? 6 months every day was hard work but had to be done. This year, apart from soooo much digging, has been more relaxed, certainly now. Would you believe, apart from recording the video stuff yesterday, we are actually having the weekend off. Thank you so much for watching and commenting sharing your experience :-)
@@thecornerhouseproject As long as I can remember, I’ve taken on projects myself. I watched my mother wait for 20 years for my father to put up a metal backsplash behind the cook stove and I declared right then as a teenager that I would never ask a man to do something that I could do myself. Lived that truth since then. I’ve tackled things no other female friends of mine would ever attempt. Once I moved several railroad ties that were used to border flower beds to the curb for pickup. I’ve written down the “how I did it” and sealed it in an envelope to be opened after my death lol. Like Dawn, I also have an issue with my right shoulder not being 100% and that slows me down. I will tackle most anything but plumbing. Very interested in watching your workarounds.
Sounds like you and Dawn are the very same person lol. Dawn has always been of the mindset of if she can do it, why shouldn't she.... so she does, so good for you too :-) With the new push fit fittings and plastic pipe, plumbing in general is quite easy. Plumbing in our range in the kitchen will be done by a professional due to the pressure of building water. Copper fixings and pipe needs to be used I believe, and it is the "I believe" which is why we will get a pro in. Other than that, I can make a workaround for most things haha. Thank you so much for your reply :-)
Good afternoon Freeborn Living Woman, thank you so much for watching and commenting. It was certainly been a busy 12 months and excitement since October 2022. The excitement never really ends, just our energy levels lol. Thank you again :-)
A word of caution about keeping sheep. I once spent a week next to a field of sheep in midsummer when it was light from very early in the morning. The sheep were baaing from first light. Also regarding goats, they’ll save you having to mow the grass but unless you do a lot of fencing they’ll have a go eating anything that’s growing!
Hi Julie thank you for watching and commenting. But it will be lovely to be able to say... I wish "OUR" bloody sheep would shut up hahaha. To be honest, I doubt they will make as much noise as the dog from up the land, he will stand outside the house at 2am barking. Not a bad thing in the dead of night in the pitch black, so we don't mind. Goats, ah yes. They are very welcome to keep everything down and we have loosely planned how we will "try" and prevent them from eating what we don't want them to. With that said though.... watch this space in the future to see how that goes. We are not sure when we will be at a stage we are happy with everything to get animals, but it will happen so we are not in a rush for them just yet. Thank you so much for watching and commenting with top tips :-)
Love how you met. What a wonderful way for the universe to send you each other. 17th March is St Patricks Day. 💚 23rd is my Daughters Bday. I'll never forget yer anniversary now 😂 The pandemic made us really look at our lives too. We moved to Ireland from Australia and bought a farm. Were doing up the house but dont have as much work as you guys. More setting up the farm now. Love Off Grid Bruce and Mossy Bottoms accounts too.
Hi Elizabeth, thank you so much for watching and commenting. We thought we would keep it simple and get married the same day we officially started "dating", to the day was 17 years from "dating" to getting married haha. Are you Irish and moved away and came back or are you Australian and fancied a change of weather? Awww a farm sounds amazing. Are you having it as a working farm and if so, livestock or crops? (Not that I know anything about farming but do like to learn. Thank you again, have a lovely evening.
@@thecornerhouseproject I am Irish moved to Australia for 18 years. Lived in England for 3 years too. Always couldn't wait to get away from Ireland. The pandemic really made us look at life. My husband isnt Irish. Were aiming fot self sufficient, working farm making money would be the dream. We have a vegetable plot for ourselves but again if we could make money that would be amazing.
Australia must be lovely but coming home must have been nice too. You are right, Covid made a lot of people sit and think about things. Self sufficient would be lovely and Dawn would quite happily grow everything and live on it. I on the other hand would be missing the important part on the plate but wouldn't never be able to have animals to then eat as any animal we have will be come a pet. Fingers crossed you can make enough to be happy, that is all we are hoping for. Thank you so much for replying and wish you all the very best. Please do stay in touch as we sound quite similar.
Thank you 🤩 it was a nice video to do as we do get a lot of questions and it’s hard to fit everything in one short video each week. This was a good way to get all that sort of thing in one place 😊
Christ you two scrub up well 😉 I almost never recognised you when you were clean 🤣🤣🤣 I can relate to pandemic, it changed my life (for the worst) and now I can't deal with crowds or people outside a small family circle,, but such is life What a brilliant video folks, thank you
I don't know about scrub up Scott, we just changed our clothes, no soap was used in the making of this video hahaha. Sorry to hear that Covid changed things for you, we were very fortunate in our families. We didn't need a pandemic, we have always liked to be away from crowds and people unless we know them so moving to where we are now was an easy decision, apart from being further away from our families. Thank you for watching and commenting tonight. Have a nice rest of the weekend :)
It was great to hear a bit about your background n journey guys. You are both very humble n honest. We think your doing a grand job with your home n garden enjoying all your videos.
Thank you so much J, that is really nice of you to say so. One day we will be finished and can sit down and relax :-) Doesn't mean we aren't loving getting there though :-) Thank you for watching and commenting :-)
Such a satisfying video to watch, Dawn your skills as so good and you are so modest about it, Ben too is very modest about his accomplishments, you are both awesome.
Thank you Zara. I think we’re very conscious of being beginners…lol We’re really pleased with all that we do but conscious of it not being professional looking 😂
Me thinks ye are a lovely couple and work so well together. I loved seeing Ben talking to you Dawn through the picture outside so cool. The wall is beautiful too. I’m hooked on all the house channels at home in Ireland too
Aww thank you Annie. We wanted a Q&A video which was a little different, it lost it's way in the second half but there is only so many times I could talk to a picture and sit there on the sofa on my own hahaha. There will be the remaining part of the hole in the wall being finished so don't think you have missed Dawn doing the last bits. She has done a great job, strong enough for another 200 years. There are so many TH-cam channels renovating, all different but all following the same dream I think. TH-cam is great. Thank you so much for a love comment Annie, have a nice evening :-)
I only discovered this channel a few weeks ago when I came across the one year time lapse video. I've really enjoyed watching the the videos and following your journey. You're tenacity, resilience and patience is genuinely inspiring. Your respect and love for each other shines through everything. I know you've had to take a break from TH-cam which I hope is temporary. Wishing all good things to you both and hope everything is ok.
Hi Jules, thank you for your lovely words and also for following us along. We’re all back to “normal” now. Just trying to catch up with the comments that have accumulated 😂 getting there slowly but surely. ❤️
Hi, Dawn and Ben! I think you you two mesh really well with the things that you're doing and have to do. You just seem to gravitate to your jobs naturally and that's nice. I can't imagine how you're going to put that long piece at the top to create the roof in the outbuilding! :) Makes me dizzy just to think about it. Your answer to "why Ireland" makes complete sense! It's so beautiful and the countryside seems so restful. Cities are tough everywhere, but not every country has that lushness. I'm sure I'm not the only one to say that we're glad you found the Corner House and decided to do youtube!! What would we do without you? Thanks for the chat. I've got to go now, but I'll be back to finish later! XO
Well the door is open when you return and you know where the kettle is by now hahaha. Seriously though, we do gravitate to our most suited jobs even if the rolls are reversed sometimes. The roof beam will go up using the scaffold, we should have plenty to have two towers one at each end. I won't say it will be easy but hopefully we will manage it OK between us. It is easy to see "Why Ireland" isn't it, really easy. We used to get quite excited when we saw the tractor in the field which used to be behind our house at harvest time, now we have tractors passing the front door, being on cow directing duty and having to walk down the country lane with our rubbish bins every other Sunday. It really is a beautiful place. As I said in the video, we think The Corner House found us and we feel very fortunate it did. We are always here for a chat, normally on a Saturday hahahaha. Thank you so much Josefina and thank you for being a channel member :-)
Don’t forget to like (and comment) every time you watch. That activates the TH-cam algorithm and sends new viewers to this channel. Let’s help them get to 25k.
Aww thank you so much for putting that. That would be amazing, 25k! Although we have to say we are chuffed to bits with how well it is already going lately. It’s quite mind blowing to think how many people now watch. 😮 🤩
Laughed out loud when I saw my question pop up and the struggle of you pronounce my nickname. It is the name my grandchildren used to call me (oma = gran, and Ivo (pronounce ee-vo) was my cat who died nearly 3 years ago at the age of 17). My first name is Inge, but I dare say you can't pronounce that correctly either. 😂Thank you for answering my question and so many others! Keep up the good work! Have a nice week!
Good evening Inge, we are going to pronounce that "In-Ga" or maybe even "En-Ga" (I cheated and used Google hahaha). Awww that is sad with your cat, it is heart breaking losing pets, it doesn't matter what pet it is, they are family. No, thank you for your Question, sorry I completely messed up your nickname haha. Thank you for watching and commenting. See you soon :-)
Thanks ML. We will get there, a bit like everything with us, bit by bit, slowly but surely :-) Thanks for watching and commenting and of course being a channel Member :-)
Hi Dawn & Ben! What a fun video! I actually clocked on a few minutes after you posted and was so excited. And then the internet went down, and I had to wander off and do animal chores. You two are such really nice, fun people. I think I personally kept the video an extra 1/2 hour longer (oops🤭) with my many questions, but I am so thankful you answered them. I'm thrilled your stove fund is getting up there! Last winter looked so damp and cold. Ben, the indoor/outdoor video chat from the living room was really cool! Not sure how you did it, but very impressed! You two are amazing for following your bliss and living your dreams. ❤ P.S. Sometimes, fruit trees need another of the same species, blooming at the same time, to cross-pollinate in order to bear fruit.😉
Pleased you enjoyed the video, we had plenty of questions hahahaha. It doesn't matter how long it was, as long as we answered most. I realised once it was edited we had missed some of your questions so we are sorry about that. Yes, the stove fun is building, thank you for asking that question, which is lovely and will help immensely and nice that we will always think about the people who supported us. The video was fun to make but did add a lot of hours to the editing time and the arm wrestle took ages as we kept laughing. Hopefully we will see some plums in the future but it isn't looking like we will get any this year. No rush, we can wait :-) Thank you as always for being so invested with us. Have a nice week :-)
Regarding sheep or goats, be careful and research carefully first. Because I know that sheep can easily get problems with their feet if the ground is too wet, and I'm thinking that maybe goats could be the same. As your land seems to be a bit challenged drainage wise, that might not be the best choice. Maybe ducks would be better (bigger eggs and not so sensitive to the boggy ground ?
Hi Catherine. Oooh we won't be jumping in feet first, have you met Dawn, Research is her second, third and fourth name haha. We would also ask the advice and input from farmers who have sheep / goats too. The land is in need of drainage channels in several places and we wouldn't get animals until we were ready for them. We would have loved to have had animals this year but the time isn't right and the place isn't ready. Chickens we could do, but larger livestock will have to wait for now. Thank you so much for your input and thank you for watching :-)
I watch a lot of vlogs with people like your selves. (Particularly in Portugal). Anyone that has had goats has had to sell them. (Except for Tiny Shiny home) who have just built a goat barn. The goats have eaten the bark off the fruit tress and ignored the brambles in Nick and Andreas farm from Project Portugal. Luke and Sarah (Luke and Sarah’s off grid life) had to sell their goats because they needed, but couldn’t afford the infrastructure for all the milk the goats produced. They had too much cheese and yoghurt.
Oooh we would only have a couple / few pigmy goats and not for food or milk. The plan is to have electric fences around the entire plot to keep all animals in and others out, and then once they have learned what the nice white ribbon does we will then put it around the areas we want protected such as around the trees. We will keep the entrance where the badgers come in free from the fence though as it is there home too :-) Did you see Clarkson's Farm when they trained those new goats what the electric fence did? There were so many OW noises before they all gathered in the middle of the plot out the way of the fence lol. Poor little buggers. Thanks so much for sharing what you have watched :-)
Dawn and Ben I really enjoyed the video.Thank you both for sharing your meeting and journey this far.Your both very honest people about everything and deserve to be very proud of all you have achieved. Well done from me.Take care and God Bless you both .xx
Good evening Colettee, how are you? That's good, I am pleased you enjoyed it, we wanted it to be a little different. Up until now, we have never really spoken much about "Us" so it was nice to share the information people are interested in. Thank you so much, have a lovely week and we will see you soon :-)
Wow just watching bits of what you paid for video so lucky your place is quiet. Our place is cut in half by not a major road but it is busy and they drive like nutters not all but a lot do. You were lucky to buy when you did. €45k you were really lucky well done👍👍👍👍👍
Ooh yes we realise just how lucky we were now when we see what prices the houses are now. We adore how quiet this area is, every place we found I looked on Google earth to see where and what type of roads just because we didn’t want to be near to any busy roads after living on or very close to main roads in the past. One place the single glazed windows used to rattle when a lorry went by! 🤣
Hi guys 👋🏻 couple of ideas for your gardening. For your apple trees to fruit, once they go dormant, prune into a bowl shape. It lets air go through them and helps prevent disease setting in. Whether you do it at the end of the year at the start of dormancy versus mid-February as they start coming alive again is a matter of preference. Personally (I live in an exposed part of Ireland), I choose the springtime as less chance of damage to tree overall. I get enough apples for family and some to donate to local soup kitchen each year. Apples cross pollinate, so if one doesn't produce, it may be that there's no suitable companion. The crab apple can fruit without any specific type. They also cross pollinate my pear tree, so that might be one to add for you. I find plum and cherry trees don't fare well enough in our weather to fruit. For your veggies, before planting anything, check how bad the local slug population is 😂 or you might be extremely blessed by having a hedgehog! Also, look at companion plants. They can massively help reduce insect damage. I love what you're doing and hope to do the same in a couple of years' time. I'm very wary about doing the electrics, though! I wasn't sure about big cracks and stability of walls, so seeing how ye tackled them so fearlessly has helped me on that! 😊
Thank you so much for the advice Cara with the fruit trees. At the moment, all three apples have fruit growing. The centre tree is doing the best and is covered, it also seems the healthiest. The super tall one has some fruit but the one limb seems to be dying. And the wind swept tree is hanging on just about but does have a few fruit. But they will all have a prune at the end of the year / start of next. That is interesting with the plum trees as we can't remember even seeing a glimpse of any plums last year so no fruit this year with you saying that now doesn't surprise us. The electrics in our place were sadly done by an electrician. I say sadly because I really wanted to do it, but the couple of electricians we asked either did it all or just wouldn't test and sign off on my work. There are still electricians that will do this though is you can find them. The walls and stability: Our outbuilding are at least 200 years old as they are marked on the very old maps and are still standing. Dawn is just using what she has learned from books and TH-cam. Started with the door thresholds last Autumn and now on to the outbuilding. Please do keep up posted with what you end up doing in a couple of years time. Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment with great advice Cara. All the best :-)
@@thecornerhouseproject having electrocuted 6 generations of fish, sending me flying across the room plus knocking neighbourhood power out all in one go (cleaning fish tank), I think it's safest for everyone concerned that I stay away from electricity 😂 Thank God for books and TH-cam! Dawn picked great info sources there.
Thank you Babs and thank you so much for being one of our much valued channel members :-) How has your weather been? Our water tanks are full although it has been sunny on and off.
@@thecornerhouseproject Your welcome, I do so love to watch your progress. As for the weather it's pretty much the same as yours lol. I loved your story of how you meet, it was so sweet. I meet my hubby more than 42 years ago and we have been married for 41 years in October. Love and blessings to you both from raining Scotland xx
Well today was forcaste a little sun and some cloud, no rain.... so it rained while I was strimming. The years fly by Babs don't they, we can't believe we have been together 22 years already. Happy for another 22 too. Have a lovely week Babs, see you soon :-)
Hi Ben and Dawn I know what you mean by screw fix. Love watching you're videos. You're both brilliant workers.. Ben you will know. When I say Ta ra for now Cheers
I know what you mean... we had a lorra lorra laughs making the video as well as a lot of head scratching on how we would actually execute my brain wave ideas of a moving photo and a bloody arm wrestle lol. Keep an eye or for the last bits of Dawn finishing the first stage of the repairs to the hole in the wall. We haven't left it out. Ta ra :)
Just found you 2,amazing job, also 2002 my husband and I got together married after 7 years, 1st march,2016 ,23 march I had a heart attack,we had just finished our second restoration, now we have just finished our 3 property and it's green green green for miles around, just beautiful . The work has been hard ,dirty and lots of rotten timber at times ,22 years on now and we are now retired enjoying life in the quiet lane , having turned 3 houses into very beautiful homes ,.
Thank you very much indeed. Oh no, that is terrible Bev, even though you have doe another renovation, we hope you are well and fit as a fiddle. Hard, dirty and lots of rotten timber, we couldn't put it any better, and you did it three times haha. We do hope that in 22 years time we are done and dusted with it all as we will be 70 by then. We are enjoying the quiet lane, every day. Thank you so much for watching and commenting :-)
Forgot to say that our first house cost 45 thousand as well ,yes I'm very well ,I'm an aussy, with sturdy scott and Irish heritage, now 8 years recovered,78 years old , but going on about 38,lol .never giive up .xx.@@thecornerhouseproject
Going on about 38 sounds great to me Bev. I was stuck at 30 for a few years but still feel about 20 in my head. After 12 months of this though, my bones are starting to remind me I am older than that now. I am so pleased 8 years have since passed :-) The person we bought our house from is in Australia. Moved there from there when he was about 27 I think and never looked back. He is 80 now. Some of his family are still close to us though and we see them from time to time, which is always nice. Nope, giving up isn't an option for us. Have a nice week Bev :-)
I just found your channel today! I watched the timelapse video first. I need to go back and catch up on your videos. Great progress so far! Looking forward to watching what you do in the future! I would love to find an old country home to renovate. They're hard to come by where I live though.
Hi Colby, thank you so much for subscribing. It is sad that you can't find one easily as there are soooo many here in Ireland. As we said in the video though, the prices are going up and up which is a shame. We were really lucky with the price of here. Sorry for the bad quality of video and audio on earlier videos, they do get better though. Thank you so much again :-)
The frame on top, I thought to myself wow that's so beautiful. Then I realised it's video frame not picture. I think it would be great to have that picture framed
We do actually have that picture in a frame in our bookcase. My sister gave it to us when we moved from England. One day we will get it up on the wall in pride of place of how the house started out looking! ❤️
I've just found your channel with the year's work speeded up, Really impressive work. The colour of the plaster in your sitting room is very pleasant and soft, It would be nice to keep something similar. An amazing amount of work you have done. Love the rural surroundings and the 4 cows with 4 calves.
Hello Jackie, thank you very much for watching and commenting today. It is a nice calm colour. Sadly it stands a chance the top skim of plaster will need to come off depending on what it is. It seems to be a "modern day" plaster but someone commented saying it could be plaster of Paris, so the jury is still out on this. Although we see everything we have done everyday, this video put it all together as a nice reminder. There were nine cows and calves at one point but these must be in a difference field. They will be around until early next year with their mums. We have two famers by us so we often see the cows passing by the front door as they move fields. Thank you again :-)
Good evening Grandma Bente, how are you. I just had a look at your channel and we love your energy in your videos and your thirst for knowledge is incredible. Thank you very much indeed for watching and commenting on our video :-) PS - If you haven't already been to Russia in 2024, have a wonderful time.
Love the Steve and Alan story and yeah i knew what it was from before the clip lol , lots of Great achievements in your first year and many more to come
Of course we did Clive, you have been here from the start... I think you originally only came for the lighting of the fireplaces and then got hooked hahahahaha. We are looking forward to opening the chimney up too. Let's see how many worms are in that can once it is open lol. Thank you for being with us from the beginning Clive and always commenting :-)
Firstly, I did fall asleep, but that has nothing to do with your video, but to the fact we have been going non stop for the past couple of days that I’m weary to my bones. But I did keep rewinding when I’d wake up…well actually when I dropped the iPad that ended up waking me. Secondly, I love that you two met via a phone too! The minute you finished the story I paused the video to run out and tell my husband about it. He loved your story, and now we are intrigued as to the show. We watch a lot of British tv but had never come across anything like that…now I will be on the search just to know more about it and if we had anything similar here. Dawn I love puzzles…any kind of puzzle…now I can really see why you have no problem with getting that stone wall done, because it’s basically a jigsaw puzzle of stone. Ben, I truly am enjoying your movie tricks. I look forward to seeing your next video to see what you’ll do next. And to the TH-cam gods, if any channel deserves a boost, I would definitely push this one. Till next Saturday…
Aww how we love you and your perseverance with watching us! Haha as soon as I saw your question I just knew you would love how we met! It was a channel just dedicated to chatting with others, I don’t know if back when you were younger there used to be like a information service on the tv that told you things like the weather or the news via just text on the screen? We used to have something called ceefax in England and that’s what the channel sort of looked like that me and Ben met via. It was just called Txtme I think. Oh yes I do love a puzzle, not particularly jigsaw puzzles but definitely mind puzzles! I used to play a lot of PlayStation and n64 games and I prefer the platform games where you have to figure out a puzzle to unlock something else. He did a great job with that extra screen didn’t he? He is a computer geek through and through and loves learning new things to do. Editing is pretty new to him but because of how his brain works he picks it up pretty well, I’m not sure I could do what he does. That would be amazing if TH-cam gave us that little boost! But I do wonder if we need to go back to doing more than one video a week, we will see what happens but until then we shall see you soonish 😊 Thanks again for your question and lovely to be in the gang of “odd relationship meetings!”
@@thecornerhouseproject oh yes, I am old enough to remember those type of programs. I remember when we walked on the moon for the first time…I was quite young but I remember the party my mom had. Thanks for replying Dory and always always being with us but wait just a minute here...... You are a Twitch Streamer and we are just finding this out now? This should have been how you introduced yourself... "Hi, my name is Dory Gean Cunningham and I am a twitch streamer" haha So come on, you can't tell us that and not let us know how we get to watch you. All three of us were like "Wooooooooah" Joking aside, we would love to see your Twitch stream so please do share your username on there so we can watch. Send it in an email if you don't want to reply with it in here. thecornerhouseproject23@gmail.com Speak soon. Oh, When we are talking about you, as we often do with people who comment, we call your Dory. Now is it just Dory, or is it Dory Gean?
@@thecornerhouseproject well as a girl of southern ancestry, the middle name is always put with the first, but I really don’t care. Dory as a name is unique enough…lol. I am “The Hemyngton” on twitch. You are probably asleep when I stream. I usually don’t push myself on people. If you ever have insomnia, I try and stream 3 times a week around 7:30 or 8 pm eastern time.
So I'm back! LOL :) I've seen the pinterest board now and that's exactly what I imagined it should look like as well! I can't wait to see the whole recreation! Loved the whole video as usual! See you next time!!
I hope you made yourself a drink and got comfy :-) Although the voice over said about me doing something clever with the Pinterest board, that was Dawn's idea with the ipad and scrolling through it, the cats were an added bonus though. I am sure Dawn will have the place looking great by the time she has finished. A few things to do between now and then, but one day it will look great. Have a lovely week Josefina and thank you so much as always :-)
Fab. Love the special effects :) thanks for the earnestness in the answers. Really great answers, love the insights and for those following in your footsteps, really useful I believe. Ben... Of course it's on purpose 🤣🤣🤣 I did think what would be a tough q for us so asked that. Hard to find such answers when your living your dream life, but they were really great. Dawn, absolutely touched by your reference to our first video at the kitchen table, it's hard to sit in your most comfortable and safe place and throw it out to TH-cam, and the world, but it's so worthwhile. Glad to have that lil connection and lovely to be transported back ourselves! 🥰
Cheers Rob. I get bored doing the same things in a video so thought I would try and mix it up a bit. Not perfect but something to work on and took a tonne of editing. Well I think Dawn is going to throw both of your questions right back at you for your journey in the car tomorrow, but for the first time in 12 months, she is actually sat watching something on the TV in the living room so don't think she has got round to it yet. You two sat at the kitchen table in your first video made us realise we would not be alone in our journey we were just starting. You seem to have a more experience in building / framing or at least some insight where we don't but we knew we could do it and your table talk just reinforced it. Have a good day out tomorrow :-)
@@thecornerhouseproject nah it's great to try new things keep it up 👍 don't worry car ride was today nobody wanted to ask us anything so we'll postpone till next year!! Few months needed to think up answers to our tough Q's 🤣🤣
Ah bugger, I thought Dawn said it was Tomorrow :-( I missed a trick there then as I would have made up some real nasty ones hahaha. Well hope you had a good journey anyway. Keep up the great work you two.
Oh wow ! No idea how I have only just found you - in awe of your hard work ethic and determination, wish my we had been brave enough to do the same and loving living the dream via your channel ❤
The main thing is that you found us Emma and thank you for joining us. The first 6 months was a case of having to just push and push to get the house ready for Winter. The land was the next thing to get is finished before the start of Spring. Now we are trying to get more permanent bits done for Winter lands again. The outbuilding repairs are a massive job though but Dawn is getting there. Thank you Emma for watching and commenting :)
Hi Dawn and Ben, thank you for sharing, I just love how you pull together and watching each project develop, it feels good watching the adventure that has become your life :) You are a proper pair of grafters and deserve to see your dreams come to fruition. It may be goats that win over sheep, because of the size of the land you have and the fact that Dawn has a leaning toward them.
Good evening Ellen, how are you? We have always worked well together, always done DIY together and repaired and did up the old, 30 year old caravan together. Somewhere we have a little sign which reads "You and I are more than friends, we are like a really small gang" and it is true. We are the best of friends and work well together. Fingers crossed, as time goes on, we will have more done and we will be able to spend more time relaxing. Once Dawn has of course done her research lol, Goats will happen, I think even if we have to change the entire place to allow for them, goats will happen. A sheep is just something I think would be fun. Like the cats come for a walk with us, the sheep would too. (In my minds eye anyway) Thank you so much for always watching and commenting Ellen.
Oooooh no, we could never butcher them, they would instantly be pets. I like pigs but never read into them. What happens when they have destroyed the current plot they were on? Do you just keep moving them or can they stay in the one area? We know as soon as we get animals the nice green patch won't be green anymore, but wonder if pigs would make it a huge mud area. Off Grid Bruce has 8 acres I think and moves his pigs around to clear the land they are on. That is what makes me wonder what we would do with them. Thank you so much for watching and commenting :-)
@@thecornerhouseproject I don't know about pigs at all. But didn't Mossey Bottom have at least one Kune Kune pig? He only had an acre. People seem to do better with pigs rather than goats. But then it might be a matter of the type of goat and what you are willing to put into them?
Loved the video and getting to know more about you both , bit by bit the house , garden , shed and everything else coming along nicely. Just do what you want and will send you a video of how to amuse your cats 😁 😁
Hi Simon. We do tend to hold our cards quite close to our chest, I think that is because we are not the most outgoing of people. TH-cam is probably the biggest thing we have ever done and shared our lives with. Yep, house, garden, shed, no rush and lets just enjoy the journey of it all, it is all getting there slowly. Yep, any videos to amuse the cats are welcome :-) Thanks Simon.
Hi Sheree. Firstly may we say thank you very much for subscribing, it means a lot. Yes we will be. It will all be done with Lime wash and initially it will be the exciting colour of...... white haha. You can buy pigment for lime wash giving you various colours and you can also mix the colours too. So we will love with white to start with and then look at different colour options after that. Thank you for watching and commenting :-)
Glad you enjoyed it and thank you for watching and commenting. It was nice to share how we met as not many people actually knew, even the people we know personally. Now they do lol. We are so pleased with it all and will be great when, one day, will all be finished. Thank you again :-)
Hi Dawn and Ben, Thank you so much for all the information you gave on this brilliant Q&A episode. I have followed your journey from the start and enjoy the episode each week. I remember back to spring when you did daily updates on your garden, phew. The stone wall rebuild looks great as do the new doors. I have a question, have you ever met up with Rob & Clare or other homesteader to have a catch up or to share the journeys? All the best to you both 💛
Hi Helen, you are most welcome but thank you for always watching and commenting on our videos. 32 days of daily videos, seven days a week were hard work but if nothing else it showed us that I can make videos every day in a few hours and Dawn can reply to no end of comments. It did take pretty much every waking hour to do, but we did it. As a result, everyone got to see what we were up against with the land and share our pleasure when it was finally "finished" so it was worth it. We have met Becky from Irish Homestead and hope one day we will get to meet Rob and Clare as they are our hero's really. Those two can really work and that was with full time jobs! We are not a patch on them. We will show the first fixed part of the wall Dawn has been working on properly as it would be a shame no to share the last few bits being done. It was going to be the intro for this video but I felt it deserved more than to be just a few minutes before Q&As. Thanks so much for being with us all of this time. Still so much to do, but you know us, slowly but surely we will get there. Thanks for watching and commenting :-)
Good evening Sherry and welcome. We are doing a bit of house, a bit of land a bit of stone outbuilding repairs, it has been a busy 12 months. Thank you for joining us, watching and commenting :-)
Hi hi from Blackpool, also a newbie, and lm absolutely enchanted with your channel , I’m binge watching every day,as an aside , I’m totally blown away with the birdsong it is absolutely amazing ,, lm hooked🙏
We moved to Mayo, 27 years ago don't think we miss anything really we love the peace and quiet especially the quiet. We live in a small village 8k from the town couldn't live anywhere else and our neighbours have helped us no end. Is there any Turbary rights, attached to your cottage?
No, not turbary rights with this one. I think back long ago before we bought the house there used to be a bog attached to the plot but it was sold when everything was split up. No, we are definitely with you on not missing anything and the peace and quiet here is just what we were looking for and we wouldn’t change it for the world. Fingers crossed for 27 years of peace and quiet for us as well ❤️
Phew, I have finally caught up with all your vlogs. Just want to say you are very good workers. Salt of the earth. This is YOUR vlog and you do you. Do the stuff that interests you and the people who enjoy that, will watch it, others can watch vlogs that interest them. You have come such a long way and are doing a great job 😊😊😊
Very well done Christine as that is some hard watching at the beginning with the poor camera and then sound. Hopefully the new videos are more to peoples liking though haha. Thank you so much for going all the way back and going through them. We are quite pleased with our progress even though a little slow. With that said, we are in no rush :-) Thank you again :-)
@@thecornerhouseproject first you had all the ivy and brambles, you slogged away at them and now you are on top of them with your weekly mow. Now you have all the stones to be dealing with. I have a feeling we will be seeing a lot of stones in the future vlogs. Did ye get a chance yet to visit the famine village like another commentator suggested? I’d say someone there could know about the layout of the farm yard.
Well the weekly mow became a strim after 3 weeks and then the mow was yesterday..... 3 hours, it was a little bit long. Looks like it MUST be a weekly thing. I think Dawn dreams stones now lol. She is always chomping at the bit to get out and start again. Not as yet, sadly not. We are hoping that if we don't get out and about this year we will have a lot more time to relax next year. This year is more relaxed so far so fingers crossed. That is a good point with our farm yard bit out the back. Thank you very much for replying :-)
Thank you very much Julia. We thought something a little bit different than the usual Q&A but it goes on for soooo long. See you soon and thank you for watching and commenting :-)
Hi Ben and Dawn! Just moved in with my other half- I'm also chronically ill- also stuck in the renting trap- so the prospect of moving to the countryside in ireland is a dream! Enjoying catching up with your videos whilst the daunting task of unpacking 😂 Hope youre getting some of the sun we are getting over here back in England! Also- Loved the editing in this one! The picture transition is taking me back to old school tv!
Ooh no unpacking! That’s an awful job….probably worse than packing 😂 Yes for many many years while Ben was poorly we didn’t think we would ever get to live this. Luckily the last operation Ben had in 2013 has transformed our lives enough to help make this happen for us. We know crohns may strike again but for now he is doing really well. As for sun? Hmm…we had a beautiful day yesterday a balmy 19c! Today not so much..very overcast again and only highs of 16. Haha yes it is very old school tv! 📺 Ben likes to give new things a go here and there lol
Lots of dreams Ed and they are slowly becoming reality. I think you did a great job of not asking all those questions but getting others to do it for you hahaha. Thank you for watching, commenting and of course being one of our valued channel members :-)
Thank you! Ben does like a bit of a challenge when it comes to the editing, always on the look out for new things to have a go at and see if he can do it or not! 🤣❤️
NO.
🤣 Gracias de nuevo por el encantador comentario encantador --------------------------------------- Hi Mario 😊 First of all thank you so much for your lovely and well thought out comment ❤️ and also thank you for kind thoughts on my rebuild of that portion of the wall. The book is so very helpful and I think that’s down to the way Pat Mcafee explains the whole process is such a simple but very in depth way. I’d wholeheartedly recommend that to anyone if they are looking at wanting to do any stone work. I think Ben has a talent for carpentry, not that he would agree lol His dad was a carpenter and joiner so he feels like he has big boots to fill. He did a really good job on all of the doors though and they look blooming lovely! 🥰 From Wexford we are about 3 and half hours away. We’re in County Leitrim our nearest, what we would class as our biggest town, is Carrick on Shannon. Oh wow! Yes we had not thought about the clearing of the land! The change in that from when we first moved here really is an achievement and so much work to get it done. Thank you for reminding us and you’re right that really should have been up there with biggest achievement! We wholeheartedly agree with your reasoning behind not waiting to build up some more savings because we most likely would have been out priced to be able to do what we are doing now and where we are doing it. Everything happens for a reason and happens the way it should, I truly believe in fate! Also our age, like you say would have played a big part, the older we get the more we ache and the less stamina there is! 🤣 Thank you again for lovely lovely comment 🥰
@@thecornerhouseproject Muchas gracias Dawn por tu amable y acogedora respuesta, siempre agradeceré el tiempo que dedican a esto. Thank you so much Dawn for your kind and welcoming response, I will always appreciate the time you put into this.

Hi Izzy, thank you so much for watching and commenting :-) It sounds to me like you have had a very busy life and no time for a renovation, but we do love you saying "maybe next time round" this gives hope and thought it is a lovely thing to day. It does sound like you have done your fair share of caring for others Izzy so I hope you are being looked after now they are all older. The trees will get a good pruning at the end of the year. Depending on which videos you have watched, we wanted to leave as much as we could so we discovered what was living / dying / died, what things were and then how best to deal with them. We think it has paid off as at the moment we have raspberries and a tree full of apples. TLC at the end of the year will be a plenty. Thank you very much again :-)
@@thecornerhouseproject loved every minute of it… hope you didn’t think I was rude commenting on pruning… my mother was fanatical about pruning so it stuck with me… ❤️
Not at all Izzy. Like everything we are doing, except for the cats, we are new to it all and learning as we go. The internet is great that that is normally one persons take on something. Our comments from people all add up and give an average of how something should be maybe done. So please, any tips on fruit trees, or trees are always welcome. Thank you for replying :-)
Ii think you do wonderfull. We moved in a house wich was rebuild in the 1970th. We need to renovate quite a bit. Next year we might to have to sit in a. Container in order to get the groundfloor renovated and install new heating system and kitchen. I
Do it in the summer and get a nice big tent lol. We looked at containers so many times for storage but it is highly unlikely they would have been able to manoeuvre it on to the land due to the size without having to do a load of gravel driveways so we just moved stuff around the house time after time. Are you pleased with your decision with what you bought and how you are getting on? Thank you so much for watching and commenting :-)
It just had to be done Laurie. We collected Peaches and the at the time, the no named Steve first and left Alan behind. Within a week we were back and collecting him and of course when you have a Steve, you must have an Alan hahaha. Thank you for watching and commenting :-)

I think having a pile collected and learning about St John's night about two months ago was a happy accident, don't you think ;-)
Thank you very much indeed, that is a really nice thing for you to say and a very nice thing to read.
Hopefully our bonfire will be a success and the pile a lot lower if not gone.
Thanks for your help :-)
Thank God for both of your smile faces in Ireland in the rain thanks for a lovely video again
@@thecornerhouseproject no sugar thanks 😂🥰
Ben I feel for you. I also have Crohns Disease. Good on you for all you achieve and of course Dawns support is tremendous.
Thanks Tyene. Two operations done and I am fixed at the moment. I think it has been 12 years now since my last one. Fingers crossed it stays away. Dawn was great throughout it all :-)
Hope you don't suffer to much from it.
How fortunate that Ben and Dawn found each other.
I felt like we needed something a little different for our Q&A :-)
Thank you as always, for always being here, even though you are all the way over there.
Hi Tango
It is a thought but we wouldn't want to put him in a position where he felt obliged to say yes if there is a reason he shouldn't do it.
Hi im from Ireland i lived in the country side when i was young... then i lived in a town for 30 years now at 66 im back in the countryside and i love it
Aww it’s amazing isn’t it…being in the countryside. We love it and it is all we hoped and dreamed it would be. We love the peace and quiet so much!
Thank you for filling an otherwise boring Saturday evening. XX
It is certainly long enough to fill your evening Carol haha.
Thank you for watching, commenting and being a channel member :-)
Home IS where the Heart is…💖
Absolutely spot on! ❤️
Just love you two , so much positivity , affection and joy . I hope you eventually open an air B&b I would come . Love jAN Bailey x
Have a great week both of you :-)
Just live your dream yes and I can see why you moved to Ireland.
@@thecornerhouseproject
As long as I can remember, I’ve taken on projects myself.
Dawn has always been of the mindset of if she can do it, why shouldn't she.... so she does, so good for you too :-)
With the new push fit fittings and plastic pipe, plumbing in general is quite easy.
Love how you say anyfink, so cute. ❤❤❤. Just found your channel and love it.
Hahaha, awww thank you and thank you for watching and commenting :-)
What a truly amazing journey you have had.
Wishing you all the very best. Greetings from New Zealand..... Thank you for sharing this with us.
Tell me you’re a townie without telling me you’re a townie!
@@305judith actually I have lived in country areas but not in sheep areas. You don’t get the same noise issues with crops!
Well done fellas, you are an inspiration. Thanks for Saving another rural homestead.
Thank you John, very much :-)
You are so trusting to share such personal information. Your community will treasure and protect your info.
Thank you 🤩 it was a nice video to do as we do get a lot of questions and it’s hard to fit everything in one short video each week. This was a good way to get all that sort of thing in one place 😊
Christ you two scrub up well 😉
I almost never recognised you when you were clean 🤣🤣🤣
I can relate to pandemic, it changed my life (for the worst) and now I can't deal with crowds or people outside a small family circle,, but such is life
What a brilliant video folks, thank you
I don't know about scrub up Scott, we just changed our clothes, no soap was used in the making of this video hahaha.
One day we will be finished and can sit down and relax :-) Doesn't mean we aren't loving getting there though :-)
Thank you for watching and commenting :-)
You seem like such a lovely couple and a brave one at that. All the best
Thank you Andrea that’s very kind of you to say 😊 Brave….or mad?! 😂
Wow, a 1 acre site without the house would be 20k, so 45k was a great price, well done.
I know! It’s crazy and we do feel very fortunate to have been able to get this house and land for the price that we did! ❤️
Totally agree.

No rush, we can wait :-)
Thank you as always for being so invested with us.
We will keep the entrance where the badgers come in free from the fence though as it is there home too :-)
Did you see Clarkson's Farm when they trained those new goats what the electric fence did? There were so many OW noises before they all gathered in the middle of the plot out the way of the fence lol. Poor little buggers.
Thanks so much for sharing what you have watched :-)
Dawn and Ben I really enjoyed the video.Thank you both for sharing your meeting and journey this far.Your both very honest people about everything and deserve to be very proud of all you have achieved. Well done from me.Take
care and God Bless you both .xx
Good evening Colettee, how are you?
That's good, I am pleased you enjoyed it, we wanted it to be a little different. Up until now, we have never really spoken much about "Us" so it was nice to share the information people are interested in.
Thank you so much, have a lovely week and we will see you soon :-)
I absolutely thought of that video when I first heard the cats names. ‘Oh wait, that’s not Steve’ 😂😂
Haha we always loved that advert! Our old postie back in England was called Alan…which had Ben shouting out the door many times 🤣
A very enjoyable time. Thankyou hi to cattens. bless you all

Good to hear you plan on getting goats, with a good fence they will keep everything under contol.
Oh yes we would love goats, from what we’ve read we will definitely need a good fence!
Well I enjoyed the Q & A, thank you for sharing Dawn and Ben, love and blessing as always from Scotland xx
Thank you Babs and thank you so much for being one of our much valued channel members :-)
How has your weather been?
Hi Ben and Dawn
I know what you mean by screw fix.
Love watching you're videos.
You're both brilliant workers..
Ben you will know.
When I say Ta ra for now
Cheers
I am so pleased 8 years have since passed :-)
The person we bought our house from is in Australia.
Fullwork... of admiration for your incredibly hard ... well done...
Good evening Grandma Bente, how are you. I just had a look at your channel and we love your energy in your videos and your thirst for knowledge is incredible.
Thank you very much indeed for watching and commenting on our video :-)
PS - If you haven't already been to Russia in 2024, have a wonderful time.
Love the Steve and Alan story and yeah i knew what it was from before the clip lol , lots of Great achievements in your first year and many more to come
Hi Tom
We are getting there. Nearly 12 months, surely a 12 month recap is due soon. We do love Steve & Alan
Thanks for watching and commenting :-)
What a wonderful adventure, you are an amazing courageous couple.
Oh it really is an adventure! We love it so much!
Can't believe you read out my question!!!! Thank you😂😂😂 looking forward to the opening of the kitchen fireplace. 👍
This was so lovely. I stayed till the end. ❤❤❤
Thank you so much and thank you for being hard core enough to stay to the end.
Thanks for always joining us and commenting :-)
But I do wonder if we need to go back to doing more than one video a week, we will see what happens but until then we shall see you soonish 😊
Thanks again for your question and lovely to be in the gang of “odd relationship meetings!”
@@thecornerhouseproject oh yes, I am old enough to remember those type of programs. I remember when we walked on the moon for the first time…I was quite young but I remember the party my mom had. She completely thought it was a hoax at the time. I am actually a twitch streamer, not under this, my name, but I play mystery puzzle games and cozy farming games…it definitely keeps my mind going
Thanks for replying Dory and always always being with us but wait just a minute here......
You are a Twitch Streamer and we are just finding this out now? This should have been how you introduced yourself... "Hi, my name is Dory Gean Cunningham and I am a twitch streamer" haha
So come on, you can't tell us that and not let us know how we get to watch you. All three of us were like "Wooooooooah"
Joking aside, we would love to see your Twitch stream so please do share your username on there so we can watch. Send it in an email if you don't want to reply with it in here. thecornerhouseproject23@gmail.com

Well you have always been Dory and you shall remain Dory in that case :-)
The Hemyngton - we can't wait to see you in action.
So I'm back! LOL :) I've seen the pinterest board now and that's exactly what I imagined it should look like as well! I can't wait to see the whole recreation! Loved the whole video as usual! See you next time!!
I hope you made yourself a drink and got comfy :-)
Although the voice over said about me doing something clever with the Pinterest board, that was Dawn's idea with the ipad and scrolling through it, the cats were an added bonus though.
Hallo Dawn and Ben,have a nice evening. From Maastricht

Happy Father's Day Ben🙂
Awwww thank you so much, that is lovely.

🐾
(In my minds eye anyway)
Thank you so much for always watching and commenting Ellen.
I think if your land supports it, you would love a pig or two. They are very clever and I know you wouldn’t butcher them.😊❤
Oooooh no, we could never butcher them, they would instantly be pets.
Just wonderful being able to watch your skills and hard work in action.
Thank you very much indeed Jean, that is nice to hear.
Thanks for watching and commenting :-)
Loved the video and getting to know more about you both , bit by bit the house , garden , shed and everything else coming along nicely.
Just do what you want and will send you a video of how to amuse your cats 😁 😁
Hi Simon. We do tend to hold our cards quite close to our chest, I think that is because we are not the most outgoing of people. TH-cam is probably the biggest thing we have ever done and shared our lives with.
Yep, house, garden, shed, no rush and lets just enjoy the journey of it all, it is all getting there slowly.
Yep, any videos to amuse the cats are welcome :-)
Thanks Simon.
Are you going to paint the inside of the walls? And what color?
Very good Q&A
Glad you think so and glad you liked it. Thank you Andie :-)
Great post.just loved your story on how you met. Love Aunty Chrissie and uncle Dave 😘😘😘
Thank you Auntie Chris. It was definitely not a conventional meeting 😂😘❤️

Glad you enjoyed it and thank you for watching and commenting.
It was nice to share how we met as not many people actually knew, even the people we know personally. Now they do lol.
We are so pleased with it all and will be great when, one day, will all be finished.

That was fun, thanks ! 😊
Our pleasure Andie, pleased you enjoyed it. Thank you for watching and commenting :-)
One of the channels I follow has just had some experiences with goats you might consider. It is "Project Portugal"
Thank you very much, we will have a watch. It is always nice to see the experiences of others :-)
Thanks for watching and commenting :-)
Just found your channel so am doing some binging to catch up. Very interested in what you are doing.
Good evening Sherry and welcome.

With that said, we are in no rush :-)
Thank you again :-)

Great to hear all about your dreams. Really enjoyed having some of my questions that I didn't ask answered.
Lots of dreams Ed and they are slowly becoming reality.
I think you did a great job of not asking all those questions but getting others to do it for you hahaha.

NO.

Hi Mario 😊 First of all thank you so much for your lovely and well thought out comment ❤️ and also thank you for kind thoughts on my rebuild of that portion of the wall.
From Wexford we are about 3 and half hours away.
Thank you again for lovely lovely comment 🥰
@@thecornerhouseproject Muchas gracias Dawn por tu amable y acogedora respuesta, siempre agradeceré el tiempo que dedican a esto.
Thank you so much Dawn for your kind and welcoming response, I will always appreciate the time you put into this.
That's so funny about how the cats got their names. When I heard yu calling the one Alan, that's the clip that came to mind.
Haha yes it definitely amuses us when we have to call them in for any reason! 😂
thank you so much for sharing. I enjoy this so much.
You are most welcome David, thank you for watching and for commenting :-)
Thank you your a brilliant couple and the channel is great
Awww thank you so much, that is really kind of you to say so.
I have occasionally seen mobile homes free to take away from caravan holiday sites.. you could blitz email a lot of them to see of there is one going free... If even just to store stuff..
If I see another such advert I'll let you know about it.
Hi shooster, thank you very much for watching and commenting. If you could let us know if you do find anything like this, that would be great as we know a couple who are going the tent method as we did.
Thank you again :-)
I’ve only just found you and I live your channel…you’re doing what I dreamed of doing but I was on my own with my 7 children…3 birth children and 4 permanent foster boys… who wer brothers aged 7 and 11 and another 7 yr old came 2 yrs later and an 11yr old boy from Mongolia who Cldnt spk English… ther all grown men now and tge Mongolian boy is still living at home with myself and my grandaughter who has been with me 6 yrs… I’m also now disabled but that was a dream of mine to do what you guys are doing and live off the land and have chickens…maybe next time round… I think what you have done so far is brilliant…listening to you talking about your fruit trees I think a good pruning might be what they need…I have thoughrally enjoyed this video and will. E watchjng any future videos ❤
Hi Izzy, thank you so much for watching and commenting :-)
It sounds to me like you have had a very busy life and no time for a renovation, but we do love you saying "maybe next time round" this gives hope and thought it is a lovely thing to day.
That’s pretty cute how you named Steve and Allen.
It just had to be done Laurie. We collected Peaches and the at the time, the no named Steve first and left Alan behind. Within a week we were back and collecting him and of course when you have a Steve, you must have an Alan hahaha.
