Back in the day .... when Nicolas Cage was married to Patricia Arquette. Brad Pitt was dating Gwyneth Paltrow. Tom Cruise was married to Nicole Kidman. Susan Sarandon together with her partner Tim Robinson. Emma Thompson was still married to Kenneth Branagh. Mira Sorvino dating Quentin Tarantino. Dude, did I miss anything out?
She was so amazing, super intelligence, bold on the political jabs, quick on the jokes, you had to be bright to catch some of them. I remember this. So happy to see it.
No thank you. Would love if she had hosted it a couple more times back then, but Whoopi nowadays is a completely different person to the Whoopi of the 80s and 90s.
That entire red carpet was taped and edited. And later aired as the intro. I'm sure Oprah said hello to Tom Cruise, but Kidman was a nominee, so he was left out of the edit.
Whoopi is hilarious as usual, but what stuck out to me was how some of the "Stars" were treating Oprah like she was an annoying bum begging for change in the interviews. Now she can buy all of their careers!!! 😂🤣😂🤣
Omg watching this in 2017 is like peeking from a time warp. I was born in 1996, and it feels surreal. The couples attending together, Brad Pitt & Gwyneth Paltrow, Nicole Kidman & Tom Cruise, Susan Sarandon & Tim Robbins, how many people still remember they were once together? Mel Gibson and Meryl Streep, Emma Thompson seemed so young. Oprah doing red carpet interview? And seeing Jackie Chan is definitely a pleasant surprise!
I strolled in on the red carpet and right when I passed Oprah, a whole phalanx of photographers snapped pictures of her. I ended up in the pictures which can be seen in her fashion pictures where she is wearing this stunning dress.
Ahmad Ali and that makes her incredibly dull. Involving yourself with politics by only looking a one side over an issue simply kills the admiration fom many. How do you think of all her conservative and right leaning fans feel about it? It's really hard to admire someone when they attack you for your political beliefs.
Despite I didn't agree with some awards that year, I swear that ceremony was the best one of Oscar history in terms of show, party and everything else.
The 68th Oscar telecast was the first one in 7 years that Bill Conti did not serve as musical director; Jazz musician Tom Scott held those duties instead.
I need to go back in 1990s. This brings soooooo many great and peaceful memories from from that era. Nowadays, with social media, I feel like I'm on a war front everyday. I used to laugh at my parents, reminiscing about the 70s and called them daydreamers. Now I understand their feelings. I would do anything to get back in the 90s. Best decade in my books.
3:45 - Tom reacted really childishly here like a spoilt brat. He sulked off like 'no, I'M the star'. Couldn't handle having a girlfriend with more star power. Oprah complimented Nicole first. OBVIOUSLY she was going to compliment Tom after but Tom just ran off. He must have been an awful child to raise and a terrible boyfriend. You can see it on other red carpets with Nicole. She is hiding her glow, her joy, her spark, her star power because he cannot deal with it.
I know that during the red carpet montage they use instrumentals of "That's Entertainment" and "Now Business Like Show Business" but what's the third song that they use from 3:09 to 5:55?
And now I gotta ask, who is the one sitting next to Mel Gibson, and the one next to her, that dont clap for ANYTHING Goldberg says? Goldie Hawn and Sharon Stone should have been front row. Goldie Hawn should be front row for ever!!
Oprah was so stunning. Future Oscar winners who were "hidden figures with talent" sitting next to their husbands: Nicole Kidman and Patricia Arquette. RIP Kelly Preston
I did not want Whoopi to host AT ALL, BUT......I give her high praise when she acknowledged the great work of Gene Siskle [of Siskle & Ebert], when the academy did not include him in their "In Memorium" for this year or the other year she hosted.
Which is funny because the show wasn't all that well-received after it first aired. I thought Whoopi was great as a host and the show, while really long was very good.
Whoopi slayed that rapid fire monologue. A pro!
She got her start in spoken word. She did brilliant slam poetry way back in the day.
She kept the whole thing under 6 minutes too.
Back in the day .... when Nicolas Cage was married to Patricia Arquette. Brad Pitt was dating Gwyneth Paltrow. Tom Cruise was married to Nicole Kidman. I can't believe Oprah is doing the red carpet interview.
Why ? You get to talk to everybody ? Who wouldn't want to do it ?
@uknow who but now she can purchase you and your whole family
blurdreamer she did it in part for her daytime talk show!

Wow Whoopi slayed the opening monologue and even threw some shade at David Letterman for hosting the 1995 Oscars, which was very, very, very boring.
One of the strongest years. I was rooting for Sharon Stone and her amazing acting in Casino but Susan Sarandon deserved it
My favorite group of Best Actress nominees. All 5 were incredible
Casino was too violent for the old academy members
omg Pierce Brosnan looks so hot!!
Enrique Munguia fuck yeah he is pure beauty and class personified
One thing that has not changed: Nicole Kidman still slaying it on the red carpet! ⚡
I'm sad that many of the stars I see in this video I don't ever see anymore today. I miss the 90's cinematic culture.

She still is an annoying, pathetic bum and one of the most irrelevant people in history.
Oprah is annoying and horrible person overall.
In 1996 she could buy their careers already. She was already appearing on the lists of both the most influential and the richest people of the planet.
Tom MacCammon fuck you Tom
I loveeee Whoopiii. Shes an amazing host.
goodness! they had her host so many times! such a gem.
Of the 4 times Whoopi hosted, this was her finest hour.
I Love how Winona appears so much, Oh and Nicole is just stunning...
That moment when Tom Cruise was just starting to buzz and Oprah totally ignored her.
I miss the 90s so much. What a fabulous decade, I was living in. Always enjoyed watching the Academy Awards back in those days. Still watch them.
I do still think Sense and Sensibility should had won in more categories
I was born in '94 but by just watching this makes me miss the 90s.
Pleeeease get her to host the 87th Academy Awards! She would be perfect! If not bring back Ellen Degeneres ;)
The announcer called Laura Dern an Oscar winner at 1:22...which she wasn’t. Fast forward 24 years later & she got it 🏆
I demand Whoopi to return as host in the oscars!..
whoopi is gorgeous

I've been waiting for this! Whoopi went IN on everybody. So funny. Thanks for uploading this!
