  • The History of the Choctaw Pony started out back in 1830 with the forced removal of the Indian Nations. These horses walked side by side with the Choctaw People, and became a part of the culture and heritage of the Choctaw Nation.
The wild Choctaw Horses have survived many dangers, but are still roaming free in South-Eastern, Oklahoma under the care of Bryant Rickman.

The Hills ... from Boggy Depot ... my Grandmother's people are great horse people. Monroe Hill was our ancestors who was there at the end of the Trail of Tears and at the founding of Boggy Depot. And, I have one cousin, from the Taylor side, near Idabel, who looks just like Mingo Greenwood Leflore.

Your love and care for these beautiful and amazing horses is honorable! I felt love and a sense of awe while watching and listening to the history this video presented...left me wanting more. It also reminded me of the horse I had as a child. Thank you for devoting your life, family, and resources to these horses and continuing our Choctaw heritage!
